Choose the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro if you want built-in satellite positioning for route recording without relying solely on your phone, or prefer its larger 60 Hz display. Choose the Smart Band 8 if you want a more compact band and Xiaomi’s longer published typical-use battery estimate. Both list 5ATM water resistance and use the Mi Fitness app; Xiaomi’s battery figures are manufacturer claims, not results from a matched independent test.

Specifications and battery estimates above are Xiaomi’s published claims, not independent measurements. Xiaomi says actual Pro battery life varies with use and cites laboratory test conditions; the two models’ typical-use estimates should not be treated as an apples-to-apples battery test.
Does the Smart Band 8 Pro have GPS?
Yes. Xiaomi lists built-in independent GNSS in the Smart Band 8 Pro, with support for BeiDou, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS. The company says it can record positioning as a standalone device or alongside a phone. GNSS is not listed in the official Smart Band 8 specifications consulted, so the evidence here does not establish that it offers equivalent standalone satellite tracking. Which screen is better for you?
Choose the Pro for more screen space and a stated 60 Hz refresh rate
The Pro has a 1.74-inch display, compared with 1.62 inches on the Band 8, and Xiaomi specifies a 60 Hz refresh rate for the Pro. Both are AMOLED panels rated up to 600 nits. Their resolutions differ in shape and dimensions—336 × 480 for the Pro and 192 × 490 for the Band 8—so the Pro is not simply higher-resolution in every direction. Choose the Band 8 if you prefer a more compact display
The smaller screen is the practical distinction if you want a more compact-looking band rather than the Pro’s larger display. The specifications alone do not establish which one is more comfortable on your wrist.

How should you interpret the battery estimates?
Xiaomi lists at least 16 days of typical use for the Band 8, while its global Pro page lists up to 14 days in typical use and 6 days with AOD. Those figures point toward the Band 8 on Xiaomi’s published estimates, but they are not a controlled comparison: they come from separate model claims and should not be taken as a guarantee of your own runtime. What can you use them for in water?
Both models list 5ATM water resistance. Xiaomi describes the Pro as suitable for pool swimming and shallow-water activities, but not diving, hot showers or saunas; it also warns that water resistance can deteriorate over time. The 50-meter equivalence attached to the rating is not a scuba-diving assurance. Follow the model-specific guidance rather than treating 5ATM as permission for every water activity. Check phone compatibility before buying
Xiaomi’s global specifications list Android 6.0 or later and iOS 12.0 or later for the Band 8. For the Pro, Xiaomi’s global product material and UK specifications list Android 8.0 or later and iOS 12.0 or later. If your Android phone is on an older version, that difference may decide the choice; confirm the requirement for the exact regional model. Both bands use Mi Fitness.
