The Orient Calendar Auto Orient Diver reference T19735 is a compact 1960s Japanese diver-style watch with a black, luminous dial, a hand-windable automatic movement and a date that is not quickset. Orient says the Calendar Auto Orient was among its first diver’s watches, released in 1964. The T19735 is a vintage collectible, not a watch to trust for swimming or diving based on its original 40-meter rating.
What is the Orient Calendar Auto Orient Diver T19735?
T19735, also written T-19735, is a reference associated with the Calendar Auto Orient diver-style watches of the 1960s. Orient’s account of its history places the Calendar Auto Orient’s release in 1964, among the company’s first diver’s watches. The precise details depend on the individual version: Fratello’s T19735 example has a black dial with applied luminous markers, while Orient’s description of the original design mentions dot indices and a mirror-black finish. Fratello notes that similar watches under the reference differ in dial and bezel details, and that some examples have a non-turning bezel.
For the model-family history, see Orient’s May 10, 2022 announcement. Fratello’s illustrated T19735 specimen and its listed features are described in its 2019 feature.
What are the T19735’s dimensions and specifications?
Published measurements differ, so there is no single definitive dimension set established for every T19735. The figures below are attributed to the specific watch or listing each source describes.

|---|---|---|
| Case diameter | 38 mm | 40 mm |
| Bezel diameter | 40 mm | Not stated by Timeanagram |

| Movement | Automatic, 21 jewels, hand-winding; non-quickset date | Caliber 670 identified for the listed example |
| Water resistance | 40 meters, as listed for Fratello’s specimen | Not stated by Timeanagram |
Timeanagram’s dimensions and caliber identification come from its T-19735 listing. The measurements may reflect different variants or measurement methods; do not assume that a watch described as T19735 will match either set exactly.
How does the movement and date work?
Fratello describes its example as an automatic movement that can also be wound by hand, with 21 jewels and a date that does not have a quickset function. To advance the date on that watch, the author describes moving the hands back to 9 p.m. and then forward past midnight. This is a repeated time-setting workaround, not a separate date-setting control. Timeanagram identifies caliber 670 in its own example; that listing does not establish the caliber for every watch carrying the reference.

Can you swim or dive with a vintage T19735?
No—not on the strength of the historical rating alone. Fratello lists 40 meters for its reviewed specimen, but that is a period specification reported in 2019, not a current pressure test of any surviving watch. Seals, case condition and prior service can affect water resistance, and no specimen-level test is established here.
Orient’s 2022 press release states: “The original 1964 models do not meet current ISO standards as there were no clear standards for divers’ watches at the time.” That warning is about the original models and should not be confused with the modern Orient Star Diver 1964 2nd Edition. Orient gives that distinct modern watch a 200-meter rating and ISO 6425 compliance; those specifications do not apply to the T19735.

What should you check before buying one?
- Confirm the specific version. Compare the dial, bezel and case details against photographs and descriptions; the shared reference does not guarantee identical configuration.
- Ask for measurements of the actual watch. Published case diameters range from Fratello’s 38 mm to Timeanagram’s 40 mm, while both sources give an 18 mm lug width.
- Check the movement and date in operation. Ask whether the watch runs, winds by hand, changes date as the hands pass midnight and has documented service history.
- Treat water resistance as unverified unless tested. Do not infer present-day safety from the vintage 40-meter figure.
- Check strap fit before ordering. An 18 mm strap is a plausible fit based on both sources, but verify the lugs and strap dimensions on the particular watch. Fratello describes rubber or bracelet options; Timeanagram shows a calf-leather strap.
Price evidence is limited and time-sensitive. Fratello’s author reported Japanese examples at at least $1,500 in 2019 and mentioned an auction with more than 40 bids; this is a historical observation, not a current valuation. Timeanagram displayed ¥248,000 for one seller’s example when its listing was accessed on October 7, 2026. Neither figure establishes a market average. Condition, service, provenance and the exact variant matter when assessing a particular watch.
