The Atlantic Seahunter is an appealing vintage watch for its distinctive design, not a watch with a confirmed modern price or specification. In Tomas Rosputinsky’s account of one example, the standout details are a glossy Bakelite bezel, a brown-toned gradient dial, orange accents and a framed date. The piece was acquired in a three-watch auction lot and needed attention, so it is best understood as an enthusiast’s portrait of a particular watch—not a model-wide buying guarantee.
What makes the Atlantic Seahunter stand out?
Rosputinsky’s example combines several details that give it a character distinct from a plain tool-watch design:
- Bakelite bezel: The shiny insert sits down inside a groove in the case and has orange details. The author calls out the material’s fragility.
- Layered dial: A brownish metallic gradient darkens toward the center, alongside an orange minute track and a framed date window.
- Case profile: The author describes a light case with a beveled edge that opens toward the lugs.
These are observations of the watch in the article, not a verified specification for every Seahunter. The account does not identify a reference number, dimensions, movement caliber or water-resistance rating.
How old is this Seahunter?
The Fratello feature places the pictured logo and case style in the 1970s by comparing it with a similar image in a book about Atlantic watches. That is an attributed style-based dating, not a documented production date for a specific reference.

The same article traces Atlantic’s history to Eduard Kummer’s EKB company, established in 1888 to make pocket-watch parts. It reports that the company adopted the Atlantic name in 1953 and cites Kathleen Pritchard’s Swiss Timepiece Makers, 1775–1975 for the company’s official listing as Atlantic SA in 1966. These are historical details as reported in the feature; they do not establish when this individual Seahunter was manufactured.
What was the condition of the featured watch?
The author says his watch needed “a bit of TLC” and that it received a new crystal, which made the dial easier to see. The feature provides no crystal dimensions or part number, so it does not establish what replacement crystal will fit another example. It also gives no verified service history for the watch.

Bakelite bezel inserts can be fragile, making their condition a meaningful point to check on any example. The article does not supply a repair assessment or a restoration cost.
Is the Atlantic Seahunter a good vintage-watch buy?
Rosputinsky bought his Seahunter as part of an auction lot containing two other watches. He praised it as an entry-level vintage diver, but that is a personal opinion about his find, not a current market ranking or price guide. The article does not establish present-day availability, typical selling prices or a verified purchase recommendation.

If you are considering one, assess the individual watch rather than relying on the model name alone:
- Inspect the bezel carefully for cracks, chips or missing material.
- Check the crystal for damage and ask whether a replacement was fitted; confirm compatibility with a qualified watchmaker rather than assuming a generic part will fit.
- Ask the seller what is known about the dial’s originality and the watch’s service history, and request documentation where available.
- Do not treat a vintage-diver appearance as proof that the watch is safe for swimming or diving. The feature gives no water-resistance specification or current test result.
