Monochrome-Watches’ 2016 best-of reviews list named nine watch reviews readers responded to most, with the Rolex Daytona 116500LN Ceramic Bezel at No. 1 and the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph Boutique Edition at No. 9. Published by Brice Goulard on 30 December 2016, the retrospective says its order reflects page views and reactions—not a comparative quality score or independent award.
How Monochrome-Watches ranked its 2016 favorites
The list is a year-end retrospective of nine reviews published by Monochrome-Watches. The publisher says it based the ranking on page views and reactions, and distinguished it from its most-read stories. It does not give view counts, reaction totals, sample size, or a more detailed scoring method, so the ordinal positions should be read as site-specific reader response rather than a measured verdict on the watches.
The descriptions below summarize the features highlighted in the roundup. They are historical editorial context, not claims about current prices, availability, or how these watches compare as purchases today.
The nine reviews, in the published order
-
Rolex Daytona 116500LN Ceramic Bezel
The roundup’s top-ranked review covered a highly anticipated Daytona update. Monochrome-Watches characterized the changes mainly as a new bezel and a slightly modified dial.

-
Tudor Heritage Black Bay 36
This review highlighted a smooth bezel, a classical Tudor dial and snowflake hands, presenting the watch as an everyday sports-watch option.
-
Seiko Prospex SRPA21 PADI Turtle
The roundup noted the Turtle’s vintage-inspired shape, Pepsi bezel, blue dial and automatic movement, alongside its limited production and Prospex specifications. It described the price at the time as under 500 euros; that is a 2016 reference, not a current price.
-
Patek Philippe Chronograph 5170G
The 5170G review focused on a hand-wound chronograph with an in-house movement, a coin-edge “Calatrava” case and Breguet numerals. The roundup also noted that it has no additional complications.

What the selection says about the reviews
The nine watches range from chronographs and a GMT-equipped diver to time-only sports watches, with the roundup drawing attention to distinctive cases, dials and mechanisms. That variety helps explain the list’s breadth, but the ranking itself does not establish that one watch is more accurate, durable, valuable or desirable than another.
The article also set out Monochrome-Watches’ view of what makes a useful watch review: meaningful time wearing and experiencing the watch. The publication wrote that “wearing the watch and experiencing it for a while, as if we were owning it, is mandatory.” That is the site’s stated editorial philosophy, not an external review standard.
