The Arken Alterum: A Titanium GMT With a 12-Hour Second Time Zone

The Arken Alterum combines titanium construction and a stated 200 m water-resistance rating with a less common 12-hour second-time-zone display. Here are its movement, sizing and availability details.

The Arken Alterum pairs a manufacturer-rated 200 m water-resistant titanium case with an unusual travel-watch feature: its second time zone uses a 12-hour hand and an AM/PM indicator, not the conventional 24-hour GMT hand. It is specified with a modified Miyota 9015-based automatic movement. As of October 8, 2026, Arken’s UK product page lists it at £630 but marks it out of stock, with preorders closed.

What makes the Alterum different?

The Alterum is a travel watch built around two specific choices: a lightweight titanium case and a 12-hour second-time-zone display. Arken describes its movement as a modified Miyota 9015, designated ARK-9015DT2 on the product page; the user manual uses the designation ARK-9015DT. Fratello’s hands-on review describes a proprietary dual-time module on the Miyota 9015 base.

Unlike a typical GMT watch whose extra hand makes one circuit every 24 hours, the Alterum’s second-zone hand follows a 12-hour scale. The watch also has AM/PM indicators for both zones and a date subdial, according to Fratello’s 2023 review. The AM/PM indication matters: the second-zone hand alone would not distinguish morning from evening.

How does the 12-hour GMT work?

The extra hand shows the hour in a second time zone on a 12-hour cycle. Use its associated AM/PM indication to tell which half of the day it represents. The March 2026 Japanese launch announcement says the second time zone is adjusted via the crown and also notes the AM/PM indicator. For the precise setting sequence on a particular watch, follow its manual rather than assuming it operates like a standard 24-hour GMT.

This arrangement is useful for tracking a destination or home time while the main hands show local time. It is not a substitute for a 24-hour display when you need to read the second zone’s hour without checking its AM/PM indicator.

Case, water resistance and materials

Arken specifies a full titanium case with anti-scratch treatment and a water-resistance rating of 200 m/660 ft. The manufacturer also lists a screw-locked crown and caseback, sapphire crystal with an underside anti-reflective coating, and BGW9 Super-LumiNova. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. The combination supports describing the model as a dive-oriented GMT, but a rating does not establish that a specific used watch remains safe for diving.

Arken’s manual recommends an inspection every two years, including the case, crown gaskets and crystal seals. For a pre-owned example, service history and the condition of seals are more relevant to present-day water safety than the original rating alone.

Movement specifications

Arken’s user manual lists a 42-hour power reserve, 24 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and stated time accuracy of −10 to +30 seconds per day. It also gives an operating temperature range of −10°C to 60°C. These are the manufacturer’s published figures; they should not be read as results from an independent timing test.

Dimensions and strap fit

Published measurements differ in how they label the diameter, and the strap width also varies by source. Fratello’s 2023 review of the original model reports 40 mm overall case diameter and 38 mm across the bezel, while H°M’S” WatchStore’s March 2026 Japanese launch notice lists a 38 mm case diameter. Both sources give 46 mm lug-to-lug and 13 mm thickness.

Source and model context Diameter Lug-to-lug Thickness Strap or lug width
Fratello, 2023 original-model review 40 mm case; 38 mm across bezel 46 mm 13 mm 18/16 mm strap
H°M’S” WatchStore, March 2026 Japanese launch notice 38 mm case diameter 46 mm 13 mm 20 mm lug width

Because the listed width and diameter basis vary, confirm the exact edition and attachment dimensions before buying a replacement strap. Arken’s product page describes a tapered, quick-release nylon strap fitted to the case.

Is the Arken Alterum dive-ready?

Arken rates the Alterum to 200 m/660 ft and specifies a screw-locked crown and caseback, making the model’s stated water resistance a substantial part of its design. That rating applies to the product specification, not automatically to every individual watch today. Seals age, and the manual’s two-year inspection recommendation is particularly relevant if the watch will be exposed to water. Have an older or used example checked rather than treating its original rating as proof of current dive safety.

Price and availability

Availability depends on market and date. As checked on October 8, 2026, Arken’s UK product page lists £630, marks the watch “OUT OF STOCK,” and says the preorder window is closed. Its stated Q4 2026–Q2 2027 estimated delivery applied to orders from that closed preorder window, not to a new order. Arken also says the black and anthracite versions will no longer be available online.

For Japan, H°M’S” WatchStore announced a ¥165,000 tax-included launch price for Alterum Grey and Black, with in-store release on March 20, 2026 and general online release on March 30. Those were launch dates and prices; the announcement does not establish current stock. Check the seller in your market for live availability before making plans to buy.

Who should consider it?

  • Consider it if you want a titanium travel watch with a 12-hour second-time-zone display and an explicit AM/PM indication.
  • Check carefully if case fit or strap replacement is decisive: diameter labeling and strap-width figures differ between the cited listings, so verify the exact edition.
  • For water use, distinguish the manufacturer’s 200 m rating from the current condition of the individual watch, especially if buying used.
  • Before buying, confirm local stock: the UK page is out of stock and the Japanese announcement documents a past launch rather than present inventory.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
