The best cheap smartwatch for most people in the US is the Amazfit Active 2. At $99.99 for the standard version, it offers the combination that matters most at this price: a good AMOLED display, built-in GPS, offline maps, sleep and heart-rate tracking, extensive workout support, 5 ATM water resistance, and up to 10 days of claimed typical battery life. It works with both Android phones and iPhones.
There is one important qualification: the Active 2 is a smart fitness watch, not a full Apple Watch or Wear OS replacement. Its Zepp OS platform has fewer third-party apps, and NFC payments are associated with the more expensive Premium version. iPhone owners who want real watch apps and Apple Pay should spend more on the Apple Watch SE 3; Android users who want Google services, payments, and Wear OS apps should look for a discounted Samsung Galaxy Watch7.
Prices and availability below are US-specific and reflect the market information available on August 9, 2026. Retail prices and promotions change frequently, so check the linked product page before buying.
Best cheap smartwatch picks at a glance
| Watch | US price | Phone compatibility | GPS and battery | Calls and payments | Best for | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazfit Active 2 | $99.99 standard | Android 7.0+; iOS 14+ | Built-in GPS; up to 10 days typical | Check calling features by variant; NFC payments require Premium | Most buyers | Few third-party apps |
| CMF Watch 3 Pro | $79 official-page price; $99 list price | Android 8+; iOS 13+ | Dual-band GPS; up to 13 days | Bluetooth calls; no NFC or eSIM | Lowest-cost smart features | IP68, but not for swimming |
| Amazfit Bip 6 | About $80 | Android 7.0+; iOS 14+ | Built-in GPS; up to 14 days; up to 32 hours GPS | Microphone and speaker; payment support is not the reason to buy it | Battery life and a large screen | Large rectangular design and less polished software |
| Apple Watch SE 3 | From $249 | iPhone 11 or later with iOS 26+ | Built-in GPS; up to 18 hours, or 32 hours in Low Power Mode | Apple Pay; phone calls; optional cellular | iPhone owners | Daily charging and no Android support |
| Samsung Galaxy Watch7 | $299.99 list price; discounts vary | Android only | Built-in GPS; battery is much shorter than Amazfit or Garmin models | Calls, Google services, payments, optional LTE | A full Android smartwatch when discounted | Not genuinely cheap at normal pricing |
| Amazfit Active 3 Premium | $169.99 | Android 7.0+; iOS 14+ | Built-in GPS; up to 12 days; up to 24 hours GPS | Smart-fitness-watch features rather than a broad app platform | Running and navigation | Fewer apps than Garmin, Apple, or Wear OS |
| Garmin Forerunner 165 | $249.99; Music version $299.99 | Android and iPhone through Garmin Connect | Built-in GPS; up to 11 days; up to 19 hours GPS | Garmin Pay; base model has no music storage | Serious running value | More running watch than general smartwatch |
| Fitbit Charge 6 | $159.95 original price; sales can be lower | Android and iPhone | Built-in GPS; up to seven days | Google Wallet; no full smartwatch app ecosystem | Small, health-first tracking | Some advanced Fitbit insights require Premium |
The quickest decision is simple: spend about $100 on the Amazfit Active 2 for the best balance, choose the Apple Watch SE 3 if you use an iPhone and want a real smartwatch, buy a discounted Galaxy Watch7 for full Android features, or step up to the Active 3 Premium or Forerunner 165 for running.
What counts as a cheap smartwatch?
Budget wearables fall into three different categories, and confusing them is the reason many buying guides give poor advice.
Under $100: smart fitness watches
At this price, expect notifications, step counting, heart-rate and sleep tracking, workout modes, customizable watch faces, and long battery life. Some models also include built-in GPS, Bluetooth calling, offline maps, or a microphone and speaker.
#1 Best Overall
- STYLISH DESIGN, VIBRANT DISPLAY: The lightweight aluminum build blends effortless style with workout durability, while the vivid 1.97" AMOLED display keeps your data easy to read, even under bright sunlight.
- ALL-IN-ONE ACTIVITY TRACKING: The Amazfit Bip 6 fitness tracker watch offers 140+ workout modes including HYROX Race and Strength Training, plus personalized AI coaching and 50m water resistance.
- UP TO 14 DAYS BATTERY LIFE: The Amazfit Bip 6 smart watch powers through your training and recovery for up to two weeks at a time - no nightly charging needed.
- ACCURATE GPS TRACKING & NAVIGATION: Stay on course with free downloadable maps and turn-by-turn directions. Support from 5 satellite systems ensures precise tracking of every move and fast GPS connection.
- 24/7 HEALTH MONITORING: The Amazfit Bip 6 smartwatch provides precise, real-time monitoring of heart rate, sleep, blood-oxygen and stress, empowering you with actionable insights to optimize your health and fitness.
What generally disappears is the full smartwatch platform: third-party app stores, reliable contactless payments, LTE or eSIM, sophisticated voice assistants, full message composition, and deep integration with phone services. The Amazfit Active 2, Amazfit Bip 6, and CMF Watch 3 Pro are useful companions, but they are not inexpensive versions of an Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch.
$100 to $200: the value sweet spot
This is the most attractive tier for buyers who care about fitness, battery life, display quality, and navigation. Watches such as the Amazfit Active 3 Premium add sapphire glass, brighter displays, offline maps, physical controls, and more serious running metrics without requiring a $300-plus purchase.

You are paying for better hardware and fitness features, not for the same app experience as Wear OS or watchOS.
$200 to $250: entry-level full smartwatches
This is where buyers can begin to get a genuine smartwatch platform, including app stores, better notification handling, wrist calls, contactless payments, voice assistants, and music apps. The Apple Watch SE 3 starts at $249 in the US. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch FE launched at $199.99 for Bluetooth and $249.99 for LTE, while Galaxy Watch7 discounts can sometimes put the newer model into the same price range.
Best overall under $100: Amazfit Active 2
The Amazfit Active 2 is the best choice for most buyers who want a watch rather than a narrow fitness band and want to stay near $100.
Its standard US model costs $99.99 and has a stainless-steel 44mm case, a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a claimed peak brightness of 2,000 nits, built-in GPS, offline maps with turn-by-turn directions, 160-plus workout modes, sleep and heart-rate tracking, and 5 ATM water resistance. Amazfit claims up to 10 days of typical battery life. Compatibility covers Android 7.0 or later and iOS 14.0 or later.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThat specification is unusually complete for the price. You can leave your phone behind for an outdoor walk or run, follow a downloaded route, track sleep for several nights, and avoid the daily charging routine associated with an Apple Watch.
Standard versus Premium: check before buying
The standard silicone version is $99.99. The Premium leather version is $129.99 and is the version associated with NFC payments. Do not describe every Active 2 as having contactless payments: the exact case, bundle, and regional availability matter.
The Active 2 is also not the best choice for someone who wants a large third-party app selection, advanced message replies, or the deepest phone integration. Its Zepp OS experience is simpler than watchOS or Wear OS. In addition, TechAdvisor identified heart-rate performance as a weakness in its testing; that is a reviewer’s test result, not proof that every unit will perform identically.
Buy it if: you want built-in GPS, good battery life, a conventional round design, broad Android and iPhone compatibility, and useful health and fitness tracking.

Best alternatives under $100
CMF Watch 3 Pro: best for basic smart features at the lowest price
The CMF Watch 3 Pro is compelling when its official-page price is $79 rather than its $99 list price. It has a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, built-in dual-band GPS, Bluetooth calling, notifications, quick replies, 131 sports modes, and a claimed battery life of up to 13 days. CMF lists compatibility with iOS 13 or later and Android 8 or later.
It is a good choice for a buyer who wants an attractive large display, phone calls from the wrist through a paired phone, and long battery life. Its quick replies and personalized preset responses are useful, but they are not equivalent to typing freely in a full messaging app.
The limitations are decisive for some buyers: there is no NFC, no eSIM, and only a limited app ecosystem. Most importantly, CMF’s IP68 rating does not mean the watch is suitable for swimming. CMF says not to use it for swimming, deep water, hot showers, saunas, diving, or high-pressure water. If you swim, choose an appropriately rated alternative.
Amazfit Bip 6: best battery life and biggest display
The Amazfit Bip 6 is the battery specialist. For around $80, it has a large 1.97-inch AMOLED display with a claimed peak brightness of 2,000 nits, built-in GPS supporting five satellite-positioning systems, 5 ATM water resistance, offline maps, a microphone and speaker, and support for Android 7.0-or-later phones and iPhones running iOS 14 or later.
Amazfit claims up to 14 days of typical use, up to six days under heavy use, up to 26 days in battery-saver mode, and up to 32 hours of continuous GPS. The official specifications list a 340mAh battery and a 27.9g body weight without the strap.
This is the better pick than the Active 2 if you want a very large rectangular screen or the longest possible time between charges. The trade-off is a less traditional design and software that reviews have described as busier and occasionally quirky. It also has fewer apps than a watchOS or Wear OS watch.
Fitbit Charge 6: choose this if you really want a tracker
The Fitbit Charge 6 is not a conventional smartwatch, but it is a strong alternative for users who want a smaller and lighter health wearable. It includes built-in GPS, heart-rate and sleep tracking, Google Wallet, and up to seven days of claimed battery life. Its original Google Store price is $159.95, although temporary sales have brought it down to around $99.95.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Charge 6 makes sense if Fitbit’s app and health dashboards are more important than watch faces, calls, or third-party apps. Always-on display use and continuous GPS reduce the battery figure. Some advanced Fitbit insights and coaching features require Fitbit Premium, although core tracking remains available without the subscription.
Best cheap smartwatch between $100 and $250
Amazfit Active 3 Premium: best budget running and navigation watch
At $169.99, the Amazfit Active 3 Premium is the best step-up option for entry-level runners and outdoor users. It adds a stainless-steel frame, sapphire glass, a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a claimed 3,000-nit brightness, five-satellite positioning, offline maps, and more than 170 sports modes.
Rank #2
- STAINLESS STEEL DESIGN: The lightweight stainless steel frame ensures the Amazfit Bip 5 Unity smartwatch is able to stand up to the rigors of daily life, and adds a stylish touch.
- UP TO 11 DAYS OF BATTERY LIFE: Go for up to 11 days with typical usage, or even 26 days in battery saver mode - without stopping to recharge.
- 70+ DOWNLOADABLE MINI APPS: The enhanced Zepp OS 3.0 provides access to an even deeper ecosystem of mini apps and games, all of which can be downloaded to the smart watch from the Zepp App, and easily installed or uninstalled at any time.
- TRACK STEPS, DISTANCE, CALORIES: Get moving with a choice of over 120 sports modes, from walking, running, cycling, yoga, strength training and more.
- RELIABLE HEALTH MONITORING: Track heart rate, blood oxygen, stress level, and sleep quality, and get sedentary reminders to help you stay active. You can even track menstrual and fertile periods.
Amazfit claims up to 12 days of typical battery life, up to seven days with heavy use, up to four days with the always-on display, and up to 24 hours of continuous GPS. It supports running power, lactate threshold, VO₂ max, training load, running dynamics, structured workouts, Zepp Coach, and external workout peripherals.
Four physical buttons are useful when running in rain or when you do not want to operate a touchscreen mid-workout. The 5 ATM rating also makes it more suitable for swimming than the CMF Watch 3 Pro, subject to Amazfit’s water-use instructions.
The Active 3 Premium is not a better general smartwatch than an Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch. Its extra $70 over the standard Active 2 mainly buys better running, navigation, display, and durability hardware. Choose it for training rather than for apps, messaging, or payments.
Garmin Forerunner 165: best established running ecosystem
The Garmin Forerunner 165 costs $249.99 at suggested retail price, with the Music version at $299.99. It is frequently more attractive when discounted.
Garmin claims up to 11 days of smartwatch battery life and up to 19 hours in GPS mode. The watch has a 1.2-inch AMOLED display, built-in GPS, Garmin Coach and adaptive training plans, running power, running dynamics, Garmin Pay, and 5 ATM water resistance. It uses a touchscreen alongside five physical buttons.
The Forerunner 165 is the better investment for a runner who wants Garmin Connect, structured training, recovery guidance, and a mature running ecosystem. The base model does not store music; that requires the Music version. It also has fewer general smartwatch apps than Apple Watch or Wear OS, so it is a running watch first.
Apple Watch SE 3: best cheap smartwatch for iPhone owners
The Apple Watch SE 3 starts at $249 for the GPS model. It is the clearest choice for an iPhone owner who wants an actual smartwatch rather than a cross-platform fitness watch.
It comes in 40mm and 44mm cases, uses Apple’s S10 chip, has an always-on OLED display, built-in GPS, watchOS apps, Apple Pay, sleep tracking, sleep score, sleep-apnea notifications, wrist-temperature sensing, fall detection, and crash detection. Cellular versions can make calls and use data independently with a compatible carrier plan, but the plan adds a recurring cost.
Apple rates battery life at up to 18 hours in normal use or up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode. Fast charging can reach approximately 80 percent in about 45 minutes, which makes sleep tracking easier to manage, but it does not eliminate the need for a daily charging routine. The SE 3 does not include the ECG app available on higher-end Apple Watch models.
It is worth paying the extra money if you want Apple Pay, Siri, richer notifications, phone calls, a large app ecosystem, and safety features. It is not the right buy for an Android owner, and it is poor value if your main priorities are multi-day battery life and basic exercise tracking.
Samsung Galaxy Watch7: best full Android smartwatch when discounted
The Samsung Galaxy Watch7 is a true Android smartwatch, using Wear OS powered by Samsung. It supports third-party apps, Google services, calls, payments, GPS, and optional LTE.
Samsung’s US purchase page lists the 40mm model at $299.99 and the 44mm model at $329.99, although promotions and Samsung’s broader product pages have shown lower prices. The recommendation is therefore conditional: buy it for this guide only when a current discount brings it near $200 to $250. At normal list price, it belongs in a mainstream Android smartwatch guide.
The Galaxy Watch FE launched at $199.99 for Bluetooth and $249.99 for LTE, but it is older hardware. A discounted Watch7 can be as cheap as, or cheaper than, the FE, so compare the live prices rather than assuming the FE is automatically the budget choice.
Galaxy Watch7 works with Android phones, but some health features and Samsung Health functions require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone. It is the right choice for Android users who need Google Play apps, Google services, payments, wrist calls, or LTE. It is the wrong choice for iPhone owners, and its battery life is not competitive with Amazfit or CMF models.

If you use an iPhone
The Apple Watch is the only option here that provides the full Apple experience. The SE 3 requires an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. Apple Watch cannot be paired with Android phones.
Amazfit, CMF, Fitbit, and Garmin can work with iPhones, but compatibility does not mean feature parity. You may receive notifications and synchronize health data, while losing some reply, calling, assistant, or app functionality. Wear OS watches follow the modern Android-only compatibility model and cannot be paired with an iPhone.
Recommendation: buy the Apple Watch SE 3 if you want apps, Apple Pay, calls, and safety features. Buy the Amazfit Active 2 if you mainly want fitness tracking, GPS, sleep data, and long battery life without spending $249.
If you use Android
Any of the listed watches can be considered, but they do not offer the same kind of Android support. The Galaxy Watch7 is an Android smartwatch with Wear OS apps and Google services. The Amazfit and CMF models are Android-compatible smart fitness watches with simpler operating systems.

- Perfect protective case with screen protector only compatible with Amazfit Bip 6 smart watch.
- 360 degree full protection, keep your watch away from scratches. 99% high transparency, provides a better viewing experience.
- Fintie screen protector case for Amazfit Bip 6 is easy to install and take off, you don't need to remove band when installing the case, and also don't need to take off the cover while charging.
- The case made from high quality TPU skin-friendly material and it is protected on all sides. Precise hole cutouts make it easy access to all buttons. Doesn't fall off when working out or yard working.
- Multi-color case covers for you to choice. NOTE: Please use a dry cloth to clean if water, sweat, moisture gets underneath the case as this may affect touch responsiveness.
If you own a non-Samsung Android phone, check which Galaxy health features are available before buying. If you do not need apps or contactless payments, the Active 2 or Bip 6 will usually provide longer battery life for much less money.
Built-in GPS, calls, replies, and payments: what the specifications really mean
Built-in GPS versus connected GPS
Every model highlighted as a GPS recommendation in this guide has built-in GPS: Amazfit Active 2, Amazfit Bip 6, CMF Watch 3 Pro, Amazfit Active 3 Premium, Garmin Forerunner 165, Apple Watch SE 3, Galaxy Watch7, and Fitbit Charge 6.
Built-in GPS lets the watch record outdoor distance, pace, and route without your phone. Connected GPS uses the phone’s location hardware and requires the phone to be nearby. Always check this distinction when considering cheaper trackers.
Calls and message replies
The Apple Watch SE 3 can handle calls through the iPhone, or independently on a cellular model with a carrier plan. CMF Watch 3 Pro supports Bluetooth calling through a paired phone. Amazfit Bip 6 includes a microphone and speaker. Do not assume that every Active 2 configuration supports the same calling functions; check the exact product variant and current firmware before buying.
CMF’s short replies and personalized preset responses are convenient but limited. A budget watch may show an incoming message while offering no keyboard, voice dictation, or full messaging app. For reliable, rich notification handling, Apple Watch and Wear OS remain the safer choices.
Contactless payments
Payment support is one of the easiest features for budget-watch listings to overstate:
- Apple Watch SE 3: Apple Pay.
- Garmin Forerunner 165: Garmin Pay.
- Fitbit Charge 6: Google Wallet.
- Samsung Galaxy Watch7: payments through its Wear OS and Google/Samsung ecosystem, subject to regional support.
- CMF Watch 3 Pro: no NFC.
- Amazfit Active 2: NFC payments are associated with the Premium version, not automatically with the $99.99 standard model.
Payment availability can depend on country, bank, card issuer, watch variant, and software. Confirm that your bank and card are supported before treating payments as a deciding feature.
Music control is not offline music
Controlling music playing on your phone is different from storing music on the watch. CMF Watch 3 Pro controls phone music and does not directly connect to Bluetooth headphones for standalone playback. Garmin’s Forerunner 165 Music is a separate model with music storage; the base Forerunner 165 does not have it. Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch offer richer music options, although individual apps and streaming subscriptions may still be required.

Battery life: compare the scenarios, not the headline number
Battery claims are manufacturer estimates made under different test conditions. A watch rated for 14 days is not necessarily seven times better than one rated for two days: GPS, always-on display, calls, screen brightness, continuous health monitoring, and notifications change the result considerably.
| Model | Typical or headline claim | More demanding scenario |
|---|---|---|
| Amazfit Active 2 | Up to 10 days typical | GPS, display brightness, and continuous monitoring reduce it |
| CMF Watch 3 Pro | Up to 13 days | About 4 to 4.5 days with always-on display; up to about 10 days under its heavy-use scenario |
| Amazfit Bip 6 | Up to 14 days typical | Up to six days heavy use; up to 32 hours continuous GPS |
| Amazfit Active 3 Premium | Up to 12 days typical | Up to seven days heavy use; about four days with always-on display; up to 24 hours GPS |
| Apple Watch SE 3 | Up to 18 hours | Up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode; approximately 80 percent charge in 45 minutes |
| Garmin Forerunner 165 | Up to 11 days smartwatch use | Up to 19 hours in GPS mode |
| Fitbit Charge 6 | Up to seven days | Always-on display and continuous GPS shorten the result |
If you want to track sleep continuously, a multi-day watch is easier to live with. The Apple Watch SE 3 can work well if you establish a charging routine during a shower or while getting ready, but its battery requires more planning than the Amazfit, CMF, Garmin, or Fitbit alternatives.
Swimming and water resistance
Do not treat IP ratings and ATM ratings as interchangeable. A 5 ATM rating generally indicates resistance equivalent to the pressure of 50 meters of static water in laboratory conditions; it does not mean the watch is suitable for scuba diving, high-pressure water, or every water activity.
The Amazfit Active 2, Amazfit Active 3 Premium, Apple Watch SE 3, Garmin Forerunner 165, and Fitbit Charge 6 are positioned for swimming or swim-related use, subject to each maker’s instructions and maintenance guidance. The CMF Watch 3 Pro is the important exception: its IP68 rating is not a swimming endorsement, and CMF specifically advises against swimming and deep-water use.
Recommended Free Tools
Avoid the word waterproof. Look for the manufacturer’s permitted activities, and remember that water resistance can deteriorate through age, impact, chemicals, heat, and seal wear.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Health tracking is useful, but it is not a diagnosis
Cheap watches can be valuable for spotting personal trends: daily steps, resting heart rate, sleep duration, exercise frequency, and some estimates of stress or training load. They are not interchangeable with clinical instruments.
It helps to separate three levels of information:
- Wellness trends: steps, sleep duration, resting heart rate, workout load, and stress estimates.
- Medical-adjacent alerts: irregular-rhythm notifications, sleep-apnea notifications, or blood-oxygen-related warnings, where offered.
- Clinical measurements: readings used to diagnose or manage a condition, which should come from appropriately authorized medical equipment and professional advice.
The FDA explains that general-wellness products are not automatically medical devices. It also warns that consumer pulse oximeters may not be evaluated for clinical decision-making. Most importantly, the FDA says consumers should not use smartwatches or smart rings that claim to measure blood glucose without piercing the skin; no inexpensive watch should be treated as a substitute for a glucose meter or clinician.
Read health results as estimates and trends, not proof that you have or do not have sleep apnea, arrhythmia, hypertension, low oxygen, or a blood-glucose condition. If a reading or symptom concerns you, use appropriate medical equipment and speak with a healthcare professional.

Subscriptions and ongoing costs
The purchase price is not always the whole cost:
- Fitbit: core tracking works without a subscription, but some advanced insights, coaching, and reports require Fitbit Premium.
- Apple Watch: basic use does not require Apple Fitness+. Fitness+ is optional. Cellular models require a compatible carrier plan.
- Garmin: the core Garmin Connect platform is generally usable without a subscription, although outside services or specific premium features may cost extra.
- Amazfit and CMF: their primary companion apps are advertised as free, though specific services can vary by region.
- Galaxy Watch: LTE models require a carrier plan for independent cellular use. Apps and music services may have their own subscriptions.
If you want to avoid recurring fees, an Amazfit, CMF, or Garmin model is usually easier to budget for. If you want independent calls away from your phone, remember to include cellular service in the real cost.
Software support matters more than a low sticker price
A very cheap watch can be poor value if it stops receiving meaningful software support soon after purchase. Google’s official support table lists security support for Fitbit Charge 6 through at least February 2028, although the date may be extended while the product remains sold.
Older Fitbit models need particular caution. The same Google list shows Fitbit Versa 3 security support ending in December 2025. In 2026, a Versa 3 may still be available used or refurbished, but it should not be treated as a normal new-buy recommendation simply because the hardware looks inexpensive.

- STAINLESS STEEL DESIGN: The lightweight stainless steel frame ensures the Amazfit Bip 5 Unity smartwatch is able to stand up to the rigors of daily life, and adds a stylish touch.

Amazfit’s software-update information says older Active 2 and Bip 6 hardware will receive only critical functions and optimizations because of memory limitations. That does not make either watch unusable, but it is an important trade-off if you expect years of expanding features. The Active 3 Premium’s newer hardware may offer more headroom, but buyers should not interpret that as a guaranteed support period unless Amazfit publishes one.

- Identify your phone. iPhone owners should start with Apple Watch SE 3 or a cross-platform model. Android owners can consider all the recommendations, but Galaxy health features vary by phone.
- Decide whether you need apps. Choose Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch for third-party apps, richer replies, assistants, and payments. Choose Amazfit or CMF for tracking, notifications, GPS, and battery life.
- Confirm built-in GPS. Do not confuse a watch that uses your phone’s GPS with one that can record a route on its own.
- Check payment support by exact variant. Eliminate CMF if NFC payments are essential, and verify that the Active 2 listing is the Premium version if payments matter.
- Check water-use instructions. Do not buy the CMF Watch 3 Pro for swimming merely because it says IP68.
- Consider your charging routine. Sleep tracking is easier with a watch that lasts several days, while the Apple Watch requires more deliberate charging.
- Match the watch to your training. Casual workouts suit the Active 2 or Bip 6. Structured running favors the Active 3 Premium or Forerunner 165.
- Include LTE and subscriptions in the budget. Cellular service is an ongoing cost, not just a more expensive watch variant.
- Check support and return policies. This is especially important for old Fitbit devices, used Apple Watches, and marketplace sellers.
Important edge cases before you buy
Small wrists
A large screen does not necessarily make a comfortable watch. The Amazfit Active 2 and Bip 6 are relatively large designs, while the Apple Watch SE 3 offers a 40mm case and the Forerunner 165 is approximately 43mm. Compare case diameter, thickness, strap range, and weight rather than judging fit from screen size alone.
Older phones
A watch can meet its stated minimum phone requirement while still losing features because the companion app or operating system has newer requirements. The Active 2 and Bip 6 list Android 7.0 and iOS 14 compatibility, while the Apple Watch SE 3 requires the much newer iPhone 11 or later with iOS 26 or later. Check the phone requirement before ordering.
Left-handed use and exercise controls
Touchscreens can be awkward in rain or during intense exercise. The Garmin Forerunner 165 has five physical buttons in addition to its touchscreen, and the Active 3 Premium has four buttons. That is a practical advantage for runners who want to start, pause, or mark a lap without swiping through a wet screen.
Used and refurbished watches
A used Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch, Garmin, or Fitbit may beat a new no-name watch, but check the battery’s age or health, activation-lock status, included charger, current phone compatibility, update status, and the seller’s return policy. A low price is not a bargain if the watch is locked, unsupported, or unable to last through the day.

Be skeptical of products promising noninvasive blood-glucose readings, medical-grade blood pressure, clinical ECG results, or “waterproof” operation without a clear manufacturer, regulatory documentation, and water-resistance standard. The FDA’s blood-glucose warning is particularly relevant: do not rely on a smartwatch or smart ring that claims to measure glucose without piercing the skin.
Final buying recommendations
Spend about $80: choose the CMF Watch 3 Pro for its display, Bluetooth calls, and minimalist smart features, or the Amazfit Bip 6 for maximum battery life and a larger screen.
Spend about $100: choose the Amazfit Active 2. It is the strongest all-round value for most Android and iPhone users, provided you accept the smaller app ecosystem and verify the NFC variant.
Spend about $170: choose the Amazfit Active 3 Premium if running, maps, buttons, sapphire glass, and brighter outdoor visibility matter.
Recommended Free Tools
Spend $249 with an iPhone: choose the Apple Watch SE 3 if you want apps, calls, Apple Pay, and safety features. Choose Amazfit instead if your priority is battery life.
Spend around $200 to $250 with Android: choose a discounted Samsung Galaxy Watch7 if you need Wear OS apps, Google services, payments, or LTE. Otherwise, save money with the Active 2.
Want a small health-first wearable: choose the Fitbit Charge 6, especially on sale, but account for Fitbit Premium if you want its advanced insights.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best cheap smartwatch overall in 2026?
The Amazfit Active 2 is the best overall choice for most buyers spending about $100. It has built-in GPS, offline maps, health and workout tracking, a bright AMOLED display, 5 ATM water resistance, and up to 10 days of claimed typical battery life. It has fewer apps than Apple Watch or Wear OS, and NFC payments require the Premium version.

The Apple Watch SE 3 is the best full smartwatch for iPhone owners, starting at $249. It offers watchOS apps, Apple Pay, calls, safety features, built-in GPS, and an always-on display. The Amazfit Active 2 costs much less and lasts longer, but it does not provide the same level of iPhone integration.
Which cheap smartwatch has built-in GPS?
The Amazfit Active 2, Amazfit Bip 6, CMF Watch 3 Pro, Amazfit Active 3 Premium, Garmin Forerunner 165, Apple Watch SE 3, Samsung Galaxy Watch7, and Fitbit Charge 6 all have built-in GPS. This lets them record outdoor routes without carrying a phone.
Can I swim with the CMF Watch 3 Pro?
No. CMF’s IP68 rating should not be treated as a swimming rating. CMF advises against swimming, deep water, hot showers, saunas, diving, and high-pressure water. Choose a watch with explicit manufacturer support for swimming instead.
Do cheap smartwatches require a subscription?
Basic use of Amazfit, CMF, Garmin, and Apple Watch generally does not require a recurring subscription, although services such as Apple Fitness+, music apps, and cellular connectivity can cost extra. Fitbit keeps core tracking available without Premium but puts some advanced insights and coaching behind Fitbit Premium.
The Bottom Line
Buy the Amazfit Active 2 if you want the best balance of price, GPS, health tracking, design, and battery life. Choose the Apple Watch SE 3 for the best inexpensive iPhone experience, a discounted Galaxy Watch7 for a true Android smartwatch, the Amazfit Active 3 Premium or Garmin Forerunner 165 for running, and the Fitbit Charge 6 if you want a compact tracker rather than a watch.
The key is to buy for the platform and feature you actually need. A $79 fitness watch can be excellent value, but it will not replace a $249 smartwatch when apps, payments, LTE, and rich notifications are the priority.
