It is not an objective winner for every wrist or travel routine, and that price is neither a euro-area-wide quote nor a guaranteed retailer price. TUDOR’s Black Bay GMT is a useful functional comparison, while the Grand Seiko GMT models cited here sit just above the ceiling in Benelux. The right choice depends on local pricing, fit, and how you want to track time zones.
Which GMT watches have a documented price near or below €5,000?
The available manufacturer listings support one clear under-budget candidate and two useful comparisons. Their quoted prices come from different markets and currencies, so they are not directly comparable as local offers.
| Model or example | Documented price and market | What the cited listing establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Longines Spirit Zulu Time 42 mm, L3.812.4.53.6 | €3,650 Finland-market recommended retail price, listed by Longines in 2026 | 42 mm automatic GMT; 10 bar water resistance; COSC-certified calibre with a silicon balance spring, according to Longines. Longines product listing |
| TUDOR Black Bay GMT | $4,925 for the cited US fabric-strap example; $5,275 for the cited US steel-bracelet example, listed in 2026 | 41 mm case, jumping local-hour hand, 24-hour bezel and 200 m water resistance. These US prices do not establish whether a configuration is under €5,000 in the euro area. TUDOR Black Bay GMT |
| Grand Seiko SBGM255 and SBGM257 | €5,200 each on the cited Benelux collection listing, retrieved in 2026 | Both listed prices exceed the target. The collection page describes a 9S66 GMT watch with two-time-zone display and a three-day power reserve; it does not establish that every Grand Seiko GMT costs more than €5,000. Grand Seiko Elegance collection |
Longines says authorized retailers are free to set their own prices, so treat €3,650 as a regional recommended retail price, not a promise of what a shop will charge. Check the exact reference, country listing, and bracelet or strap configuration before comparing it with your budget.
Why the Longines Spirit Zulu Time is the strongest documented pick
What you get for the listed price
The reference L3.812.4.53.6 pairs a 42 mm case with a bidirectional bezel featuring a ceramic insert and 10 bar water resistance. Longines describes the Zulu Time line as COSC chronometer-certified and equipped with a silicon balance spring. These are manufacturer specifications and claims, not results of an independent comparative test.

The Zulu name has a specific history: Longines says it produced its first wristwatch series displaying a second time zone in 1925. The Zulu flag appeared on that watch’s dial; “Zulu” refers to “Z,” the designation for universal time used by aviators. Longines on the Spirit Zulu Time’s history
What the listing does not settle
The cited Longines product information confirms the GMT model and calibre, but does not fully specify the time-setting behavior needed to compare its travel function with TUDOR’s jumping local-hour hand. Do not assume the two watches operate identically—or differently—on that basis alone. If independent adjustment of local time while traveling is a priority, confirm the setting procedure for the exact Longines reference with Longines or an authorized retailer before buying.
How the TUDOR Black Bay GMT handles travel time
TUDOR explicitly describes a jumping local-hour hand: the wearer can change local time in one-hour increments while the reference time remains indicated. The 24-hour hand and rotating bezel can also be used to follow a third time zone. TUDOR describes the 24-hour reference hand as an angular “Snowflake” hand that completes a dial lap every 24 hours.
At 41 mm, the cited Black Bay GMT is slightly smaller in diameter than the 42 mm Longines reference, but diameter alone does not determine wrist comfort. Its listed 200 m water resistance is higher than the Longines reference’s 10 bar specification; choose according to your intended use and follow each maker’s guidance rather than inferring a specific dive certification.

Its cited prices are US listings, not euro-area prices: the fabric-strap example is $4,925 and the steel-bracelet example is $5,275. The configuration difference crosses the $5,000 mark in that US listing, and neither figure proves whether a particular version meets a €5,000 budget locally. The SBGM255 and SBGM257 are listed at €5,200 each on Grand Seiko’s Benelux collection page, putting those specific listings €200 above the budget. The same page describes a GMT watch using Caliber 9S66, displaying two time zones and offering a three-day power reserve. Those are manufacturer descriptions; they are not independent measurements or evidence that all Grand Seiko GMT models exceed the ceiling.
The collection page also quotes veteran designer Nobuhiro Kosugi describing the design shown there: “The uniqueness of this watch lies in the side slopes of the gently curved lugs.” That is a comment about the design presented on that page, not a claim about every Grand Seiko GMT.
How to choose the right GMT under €5,000
- Set your local-market ceiling. Compare current prices in the country where you will buy, including tax treatment and the exact bracelet or strap. The Longines figure is a Finland-market recommended retail price; the TUDOR figures are US listings; the Grand Seiko figures are from Benelux.
- Decide how you will use the second time zone. If you travel and want to move local time by whole hours without losing reference time, prioritize a clearly documented jumping-hour setting method. TUDOR explicitly documents that behavior for the Black Bay GMT.
- Try the case on your wrist. The cited Longines is 42 mm and the TUDOR 41 mm. Consider how each case sits and feels in person rather than treating a one-millimeter difference as a fit verdict.
- Match water resistance to intended use. The Longines listing specifies 10 bar and TUDOR specifies 200 m. These figures describe the cited references; they do not replace maker guidance about appropriate use.
- Weigh movement and design priorities. Longines states COSC certification and a silicon balance spring for the Zulu Time line; Grand Seiko describes the 9S66’s three-day reserve. Compare the claims and the watches’ appearance, but do not treat manufacturer specifications as a head-to-head independent test.
What “best” means in this price range
There is no single winner established across the whole market: the documented options here do not constitute a complete global price survey or an independent ranking. The Longines is the strongest directly documented pick below the ceiling in the cited evidence. TUDOR is the clearest comparison if a jumping local-hour hand matters, while the listed Grand Seikos are near-budget alternatives above the limit in Benelux. Regional price, preferred configuration, fit, and travel function should decide among them.
