Thor Svaboe’s three picks under €10,000 are the Cartier Santos-Dumont WSSA0046, Zenith Defy Revival A3648 and Grand Seiko SBGW303. They suit different priorities: an elegant, hand-wound Cartier, a colorful vintage-inspired diver, and a smaller, restrained Grand Seiko. The prices below are the figures Thor reported in August 2024—not current quotes.

Cartier Santos-Dumont WSSA0046: an elegant design, not a sports watch
Thor’s Cartier choice is the large Santos-Dumont with black lacquer and a manually wound calibre 430 MC. Its understated dial has no seconds hand, a detail that keeps the display uncluttered. Cartier’s Netherlands product page specifies a 43.5 × 31.4 mm steel case and a 38-hour power reserve.
Water resistance is 3 bar, according to Cartier’s Netherlands product listing. Thor explicitly cautions that it is not a sports watch; its limited water resistance makes it the least suitable of these picks for swimming or regular water exposure. Fratello reported €6,600 in August 2024, not as a current price.

Zenith Defy Revival A3648: the colorful diver
The Defy Revival A3648 is the shortlist’s most overtly sporty and vivid option, with orange accents and a vintage-inspired design. Zenith’s Netherlands product page confirms a 37 mm stainless-steel model. That case size is notably smaller than the Cartier’s listed width, though dimensions alone cannot determine how a watch will fit a particular wrist.
Fratello’s 2024 article attributes an automatic Elite 670 movement and a 50-hour power reserve to the watch, and reported a price of €8,000. Those movement, reserve and price details are from that article; current price and availability have not been verified. Zenith’s page confirms the model and its case material and size: Defy Revival A3648.

Grand Seiko SBGW303: a compact hand-wound alternative
Thor describes the SBGW303 as a limited-edition watch with a green dial, steel bracelet and 36.5 mm case. Its hand-wound calibre 9S64 gives it a different daily ritual from the automatic Zenith, while its smaller stated case diameter makes it the most compact of the three by that measurement.
