The Christopher Ward × Mr Jones Watches Celestial is a 300-piece limited-edition moonphase watch that pairs the C1 Moonphase 37 platform with an illustrated night-sky dial designed by Bea Watts. Its visual approach is the main distinction: two birds show the time against clouds, stars and a moon, while the automatic movement and compact 37 mm steel case come from the Christopher Ward side of the collaboration.
What is the Christopher Ward × Mr Jones Watches Celestial?
Celestial is a collaboration between British watchmakers Christopher Ward and Mr Jones Watches. It is based on the Christopher Ward C1 Moonphase 37, but replaces a conventional-looking dial with an illustrated scene that makes the display itself part of the artwork. Mr Jones Watches’ official Celestial page describes the edition as limited to 300 pieces and says it is sold exclusively by Christopher Ward while stock lasts.
The production is split between the collaborators: Mr Jones Watches says the design and dial printing took place in London using Christopher Ward components, with technical assembly by Christopher Ward in Biel, Switzerland. This is an art-led variation on the C1 Moonphase 37, not a different basic case platform.
How does the Celestial dial tell time?
The scene shows blue clouds, stars, a large moon and two pink birds. Fratello reports that the birds indicate the hours and minutes, while a cloud near the center rotates as the seconds display. Of the dial elements, only the moon in its cloud bed glows in the dark, according to Fratello’s March 27, 2025 launch coverage.

The moonphase is a separate indication of the lunar cycle rather than a second way to read the time. Christopher Ward says its JJ04 module mimics that cycle and that, if the watch is kept wound, it could track the moon’s cycle for around 128 years. That is the brand’s stated capability, not an independently verified test result or a guarantee of performance.
Who designed the Celestial dial?
Bea Watts, then a lead assembly technician at Mr Jones Watches, designed the dial after winning an internal design competition. She drew on the transition from sunset to night and imagined a cozy place above the clouds from which to watch the stars. Mr Jones Watches says the colors were measured and mixed by hand, then printed in individual layers in London.

Christopher Ward watch designer William Brackfield characterized the contrast in working styles this way: “Their process is very different to ours. Normally, we’d have markers and hands, but they’re coming from a very visual side. The end result is like a painting – but in a watch.”

A 30 m / 3 ATM rating is modest; do not treat it on its own as confirmation that a watch is suitable for swimming. The launch specifications do not establish strap width or replacement-strap compatibility.

What to consider before buying
- Choose it for the dial, not just the moonphase. The distinctive feature is the illustrated display and its bird-shaped time indicators; someone who prefers conventional hands and markers may find the presentation less immediate.
- Check the dimensions against your wrist. The reported 37 mm diameter is paired with a 44.1 mm lug-to-lug length and 13.1 mm thickness, so case diameter alone does not tell the whole fit story.
- Think about the water-resistance limit. The stated 30 m / 3 ATM rating is not a reason to assume the watch is suitable for swimming.
- Compare prices only on the same date. The listed euro figures are March 2025 launch prices; confirm current pricing and whether the desired strap or bracelet is offered.
- Account for limited-edition availability. The edition is stated to be 300 pieces, and the official retailer’s “while stock lasts” note is not a live inventory check.
