Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The first Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic software build was a small, pre-launch maintenance update—not a major feature release. A July 31, 2023 report said its published description promised “performance improvements on your device”; it did not announce new health, fitness or interface features. The watches went on sale August 11, 2023, and some units may have arrived with the build already installed.
What the first update included
The launch-era changelog was brief: performance improvements. Samsung did not provide a more detailed changelog in the coverage published before retail availability, so there is no basis for attributing specific changes to battery life, GPS, sleep tracking, health sensors or the Classic’s rotating bezel.
The update was described as a build prepared for launch. That makes “day-one update” a useful shorthand, but it does not mean every owner would receive a separate notification after unboxing; a watch could already have that software installed. Droid Life’s July 31, 2023 report covered the pre-launch build and the August 11 retail launch date.
Reported U.S. launch-build numbers
The following identifiers were reported for U.S. launch variants. Model prefix, case size and Bluetooth or LTE connectivity distinguish the builds; these are historical 2023 launch identifiers, not a universal list of current firmware.

These figures come from the pre-launch report. A different build number is not, by itself, evidence of a failed update: software can differ by region, carrier and device variant. Compare against the exact model and connectivity type, rather than treating one identifier as applicable to every Watch6.
How to check for and install an update
- Connect the watch to its paired phone and open Galaxy Wearable.
- Select the Galaxy Watch6 or Watch6 Classic.
- Open Watch settings, then tap Watch software update. The label may vary slightly by app version; Samsung also refers to this control as Band software update in some instructions.
- Tap Download and install if an update is offered, then follow the on-screen prompts.
- Keep the watch charged and the connection stable while it installs. The watch may reboot and display an installation-progress indicator.
Samsung’s software-update support page describes checking through Galaxy Wearable. Its Galaxy Watch update instructions explain the download and installation process.

Check the installed build on the watch
- On the watch, open Settings.
- Tap About watch, then Software information.
- Compare the displayed software version with information for your exact model, region and carrier.
Menu wording can change with software versions. If the watch already has a newer version than the AWG1 launch build, there is no reason to seek out that old build specifically.
If no update appears or installation stalls
- No update is offered: The watch may already have the launch build or a later one. Rollouts can also be staged, and firmware availability differs across regional, carrier and connectivity variants.
- The number does not match: First confirm the watch family, case size and Bluetooth/LTE version. A number from a U.S. launch report may not match a watch sold elsewhere.
- The watch is not detected: Confirm it is paired and connected to the phone, then reopen Galaxy Wearable. Check for an app update if the update controls are missing.
- Installation pauses or fails: Charge the watch or place it on its charger, use a reliable Wi-Fi or phone connection, and keep the phone and watch close together. Restart Galaxy Wearable and retry; if the problem persists, restart both devices and try again.
Do not change the watch’s region or install firmware manually just to obtain the 2023 launch build. The reported update does not establish that either step is necessary or safe.

Is AWG1 the latest Galaxy Watch6 software?
No. The AWG1 identifiers belong to the 2023 launch period. As of August 18, 2026, Verizon’s U.S. Galaxy Watch6 support page listed newer firmware, including a July 2026 security update for its 40mm and 44mm models: R935USQS2CZF5 and R945USQS2CZF5, respectively. That carrier listing does not establish the current version for every country, carrier or Watch6 variant. For current software, check what Galaxy Wearable offers for your own watch, and consult the relevant carrier or regional support page. Verizon’s Galaxy Watch6 update history provides the U.S. listing.
