Their story, published by Fratello on January 27, 2021, is as much about the pleasure of hunting for watches together as it is about one limited-edition watch.
A watch hunt shared across distance
Ghita and Nicolette had browsed watches together in person before distance and lockdown restrictions changed how they could spend time together. Instead of ending their shared searches, the separation moved them online: they compared possible watches, followed the delivery tracking, and arranged video calls to open their parcels together. Ghita captured the appeal in one line: “Hunting watches is one of the best ways to spend time with your best friend.”
In her account, the watch’s arrival was not just the end of a purchase. The tracking, the anticipation of the strap color, and the prospect of seeing the bronze case begin to develop a patina all became part of the experience. The remote unboxing gave each friend a way to share the moment despite not being in the same room. Read Ghita’s buyer story at Fratello.
What they were weighing up
Ghita’s account puts familiar watch-shopping questions into her own words: “There are many things to consider. Materials, sizes, lugs, dials, hands, whether we wanted a manufacture movement or not. Should we choose novelty or a vintage model?” She also considers whether a watch should come on a bracelet or strap, and which strap style would suit it.

#1 Best Overall
- Comes with Oris-Backed 2-Year Global Warranty, Guarantee Card, and Product Manual
- Self-Winding Movement
- Up to 38 Hours of Power Reserve
- High Frequency: 28,800 A/h, 4 Hz
- Case Diameter: 40 mm
Those questions are useful precisely because they are not a universal ranking. They are decision axes Ghita describes in the published story; the best choice depends on what a buyer values and how a watch will be worn.
- Dial and light: The edition’s oxblood red dial does not appear identical in every setting. Fratello’s retrospective describes it as brighter in sunlight and as dark burgundy, nearly brownish, indoors without direct sun. That is an editorial observation, not a controlled color test. Fratello’s project coverage discusses the dial.
- Case material: Bronze gives the story an element that changes over ownership: Ghita anticipated the case’s patina, rather than treating its appearance as fixed.
- Fit: Diameter alone does not tell the whole fit story. The launch specifications list both the 40 mm case diameter and 48 mm lug-to-lug length, along with a 12 mm thickness.
- Movement and style: Ghita explicitly raises manufacture movement versus other movement types, and novelty versus vintage styling. The launch article identifies this watch’s Oris 754 automatic movement as based on the Sellita SW 200-1.
- Strap choice: The original package included taupe leather and an additional “Fratello Grey” NATO strap with bronze keepers. Ghita’s anticipation around strap color shows how a small detail can become part of choosing and receiving a watch.
The collaboration behind the edition
The watch pairs a bronze Oris Big Crown Pointer Date case with an oxblood red dial. Fratello’s launch account traces the combination to Michael Stockton’s idea: use an oxblood dial in the bronze case Oris had used for its 80th-anniversary edition. Fratello says the idea began when Stockton saw an oxblood Big Crown Pointer Date at Baselworld 2019; the project page says Oris agreed to the proposed combination.

The Fratello Exclusive project page describes 300 pieces worldwide. The launch article breaks that total down as 250 for Fratello’s online boutique and 50 for selected Oris boutiques. Robert-Jan described the collaboration in the launch article as “a great experience from start till end.” See Fratello’s launch specifications and account.
Reference and launch specifications
Fratello’s December 2020 launch article identifies the watch as reference 01 754 7741 3188. These are the specifications reported at launch, not an independent test.

Fratello reported a December 2020 launch price of €1,950 including VAT (€1,680 excluding VAT). It also described a two-year international guarantee as standard at launch, with a possibility of extension by signing up to MyOris. Those are historical launch terms, not current pricing or a statement about warranty eligibility today.
The Fratello Exclusive project page currently labels the edition sold out. That status concerns the original project page; it does not establish whether a pre-owned example is available elsewhere, what it might cost, whether a listing is authentic, or whether any warranty would transfer.
