Felipe Pikullik’s Mondphase I is a hand-wound mechanical watch built around a sculptural, three-dimensional moon display and partially exposed gearing. Its maker describes it as the collection’s first celestial complication; the published specifications pair that visual focus with a 41 mm steel case and a modified Unitas ébauche.
What is the Felipe Pikullik Mondphase I?
Mondphase I, also written Mondphase 1, is an independent watchmaker’s take on the moonphase: instead of presenting the moon as a flat disc in a conventional aperture, the watch gives it a raised, hand-shaped presence on the dial. The official model page places the moon at 9 o’clock and calls the watch the first celestial complication in the collection. Felipe Pikullik’s model page is the reference for its current description.
The dial is described by the manufacturer as frosted brass with black rhodium plating. Part of the gearing is visible, but the balance remains concealed, so the design is not a fully open-worked view of the movement. Phillips’ profile of Pikullik reports that he made the entire gear train from scratch. That is a reported construction claim, rather than a finding from an independent inspection here.
Current published specifications
The following figures are the manufacturer’s current published specifications, not measurements from an independent test. The current model page was accessed October 8, 2026.
#1 Best Overall
- 40mmmm stainless steel case
- 8 inch brown two- piece quick release
- blue dial
- mineral glass lens
- water resistant up to 50 meters
| Specification | Manufacturer-published detail |
|---|---|
| Case | Stainless steel; 41 mm diameter; 10.5 mm height |
| Dial | Frosted brass with black rhodium plating |
| Movement | Modified Unitas ébauche; hand-wound |
| Power reserve | 56 hours |
| Frequency | 21,600 vibrations per hour |
| Water resistance | 5 bar |
| Strap | Calfskin |
These specifications describe the model as listed now. Older launch-era coverage gave a 50-hour reserve, so it should not be substituted for the current manufacturer figure. The moon’s placement has also been described differently in older coverage; the current official page says 9 o’clock.
How the movement and moon display fit together
The movement description combines two ideas that are easy to conflate: Pikullik’s published reference is a modified Unitas ébauche, while Phillips reports that the gear train was made from scratch. Those claims can coexist—a modified base does not rule out extensive hand-made components—but they do not establish that every movement component is wholly in-house. The balance is kept out of view while portions of the train are exposed, making the visible mechanics part of the dial-side composition rather than a complete movement display.

In an interview with Hodinkee, Pikullik described the moonphase as “my first full step into the handmade world.” He also said development took two years and that he repeatedly made parts using different techniques. Those are the watchmaker’s own account of the project, not independently verified production findings.
What was known at launch—and what that does not establish today
Time+Tide’s January 2023 introduction reported a 20-piece limited run and a launch price of €24,000. These are historical launch details, not a current price quote, confirmation that production continues, or evidence that any pieces remain available. Time+Tide’s launch coverage is the source for those figures.

- Blending elevated style and advanced features into one elegant timepiece.
Price comparisons should therefore use a current written quote for the specific watch being offered, along with its condition, provenance and included items. The 2023 launch figure should not be treated as a present market valuation. Source materials describe the watch as a GPHG finalist or nominee; it should not be described as a winner.
