Both are METAS Master Chronometers rated to resist magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. For anyone considering an Omega Railmaster watch, the key decision is whether the more contemporary grey dial or vintage-toned beige dial—and a bracelet or leather strap—best suits their daily wear.
What is the new Omega Railmaster?
Omega introduced the original Railmaster in 1957 as part of a professional trio alongside the Speedmaster and Seamaster 300. It was designed for railway staff and other workers around magnetic equipment. Omega says the original’s inner protective case enabled resistance up to 1,000 gauss, compared with about 60 gauss for many watches of that era. The modern Railmaster retains the clean, legible tool-watch idea, but its symmetrical case and bracelet styling sit closer to the Seamaster Aqua Terra family.
Omega described the 2025 return this way: “One of OMEGA’s most enduring watch designs makes a return this year, featuring new colour gradients and a distinctly pure aesthetic.” — OMEGA, 2025 (Omega, 2025).
How do the grey and beige Railmasters differ?
Both versions have a 38 mm stainless-steel case and are available on leather or a steel bracelet. Their dial design, seconds display and lume give them different personalities.

- Omega Seamaster Railmaster Automatic Men's Watch 220.10.40.20.06.001
| Configuration | Dial and display | Strap or bracelet | Reference numbers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grey-gradient | Central seconds; large white-luminous numerals and indexes; cleaner, more technical appearance | Black leather or stainless-steel bracelet | Leather: O235.12.38.20.06.001; bracelet: O235.10.38.20.06.001 |
| Beige-gradient | Small seconds at six o’clock; vintage-toned lume; warmer, more vintage character | Golden-brown Novonappa leather or stainless-steel bracelet | Leather: O235.12.38.20.13.001; bracelet: O235.10.38.20.13.001 |
The grey model is the straightforward choice if you prefer a conventional central-seconds layout and crisp contrast. The beige version is visually softer, and its small-seconds subdial makes it the more distinctive of the pair. Choose the bracelet for a more integrated, everyday-sports-watch look; leather makes either dial feel less like a steel sports watch. The strap references and descriptions are reported by Time and Watches (August 2025 review).
How does the 38 mm case wear?
Time and Watches measured the reviewed grey model at 38 mm across, 12.36 mm thick and 19 mm between the lugs. It has a domed, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, no date window and a transparent caseback with Geneva-wave decoration. At 38 mm, it may appeal to people who find larger sports watches cumbersome, but diameter alone cannot guarantee fit: wrist circumference, lug shape and strap choice all matter. A 19 mm Railmaster replacement strap is the relevant width to check when choosing an alternative.

The movement visible through the caseback is calibre 8806 in the central-seconds grey model. It runs at 25,200 vibrations per hour and uses two series-mounted barrels for a 55-hour power reserve. The beige small-seconds model uses calibre 8804. Both are Co-Axial Master Chronometers certified by METAS. Time and Watches reports that the movements first undergo COSC precision testing at -4 to +6 seconds per day; METAS testing then requires complete-watch accuracy between 0 and +6 seconds per day. These are certification specifications, not a guarantee of the rate of every individual watch in all conditions.
Is the 2025 Railmaster antimagnetic?
Yes. Omega rates both current Railmasters to resist magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss under the METAS Master Chronometer standard. That is 15 times the 1,000-gauss rating Omega gives for the 1957 original. This is a substantial specification for a mechanical watch, but it should not be read as immunity to every magnetic exposure or as a substitute for servicing if a watch’s timekeeping changes.

How much does the new Omega Railmaster cost?
Published prices vary by market, retailer and date. Time and Watches listed the following guide prices in August 2025; Watches of Switzerland later displayed the grey steel reference at $6,200 when accessed in 2026.
| Configuration | August 2025 guide price reported by Time and Watches | Later retailer listing |
|---|---|---|
| Grey, leather | €5,700 / US$5,400 | not stated (Watches of Switzerland, accessed 2026) |
| Grey, steel bracelet | €6,100 / US$5,800 | $6,200 (Watches of Switzerland, accessed 2026) |
| Beige, leather | €6,400 / US$6,000 | not stated (Watches of Switzerland, accessed 2026) |
| Beige, steel bracelet | €6,800 / US$6,400 | not stated (Watches of Switzerland, accessed 2026) |
The August 2025 figures are reported by Time and Watches (price and model details); the later US listing is from Watches of Switzerland (grey steel listing). Check current authorized pricing in your market before buying, since a dated listing is not a current worldwide price. For a high-value purchase, an authorized seller is the clearest route to confirm the watch’s provenance and applicable warranty. Marketplace authenticity, warranty coverage and inventory vary by country and seller.

- Omega Speedmaster Chronograph Automatic 38 mm Watch 324.30.38.50.03.001
Does the Railmaster wear smaller than a 38 mm Aqua Terra?
Both names point to a 38 mm watch in this comparison, so the number alone does not establish which wears smaller. The reviewed Railmaster’s 12.36 mm thickness and 19 mm lug width provide useful measurements, but a fair comparison requires the exact Aqua Terra reference’s case dimensions, bracelet construction, movement, water-resistance rating and price. Those details are not established here, so it would be misleading to claim a fit or specification advantage for either model. Try the exact references on wrist if wearing comfort is the deciding factor.
Is the 2025 Omega Railmaster worth buying?
It is worth shortlisting if you want a compact, no-date mechanical sports watch with strong certified magnetic resistance and a deliberately restrained dial. The grey version is the more legible, contemporary-looking option; beige brings a vintage tone and a less conventional small-seconds display. The main trade-off is that the modern watch’s symmetrical case and bracelet feel closer to the Aqua Terra family than to a strictly period-faithful revival. Before choosing, compare the local price of the exact dial-and-strap configuration and decide whether the bracelet’s integrated look or leather’s softer character better suits your routine.
