The 2015 Oris Divers Sixty-Five, reference 01 733 7747 4055-07 4 17 18, is a compact, vintage-styled automatic dive watch whose appeal lies more in its proportions and period character than in maximum dive-watch capability. Its 40 mm case, domed sapphire crystal and distinctive numerals made it an appealing modern revival of Oris’s first dive watch; its 100 m water-resistance rating and standard automatic movement were clear compromises for buyers prioritizing technical distinction or deeper-water credentials.
What the original Divers Sixty-Five is
Oris revealed the modern Divers Sixty-Five at Baselworld in 2015. Its design looks back to the company’s first dive watch, introduced in 1965. Oris later described that original as a practical, robust watch designed for adventure in its 2025 image booklet.
The launch-era modern watch is reference 01 733 7747 4055-07 4 17 18. That reference matters: “Divers Sixty-Five” now covers multiple later versions, and their specifications, colors, date layouts and strap or bracelet configurations should not be assumed to match the 2015 model.
There is a useful distinction in how reviewers describe the connection to the 1965 original. Time+Tide’s retrospective calls the visible design a faithful reissue, while WorldWatchReview describes it as a homage rather than a technically faithful reissue. These descriptions need not conflict: the watch clearly draws on the earlier model’s visual language, but the 2015 watch is a modern construction rather than a component-for-component reproduction.

Specifications and opinions above come from contemporary coverage and a later retrospective, not from independent laboratory testing. WorldWatchReview’s June 25, 2015 review names the launch reference and reports the 40 mm case, 100 m rating and Calibre 733. Time+Tide’s July 21, 2019 retrospective supplies the historical Australian price.
How it wears and what gives it character
Compact proportions with a strong vintage identity
At 40 mm, the launch model was relatively restrained by the standards of many contemporary sports watches. WorldWatchReview praised its compact proportions and wearable design. Its retro Arabic numerals, distinctive hands and convex sapphire give the dial and profile much of the watch’s personality, without making it a literal reproduction of a 1960s tool watch.

Bezel and strap choices contribute to the look
Time+Tide singled out the aluminum bezel insert, block numerals and tropical-style rubber strap as parts of the watch’s period appeal. The same reviewer viewed the absence of a bracelet and ceramic bezel as trade-offs that helped preserve the intended design or price point. Those are the reviewer’s judgments, not universal preferences: a buyer who wants a metal bracelet or a more scratch-resistant ceramic insert may value those features differently.
Small design details depend on the exact version
Date placement is one reason to check the reference rather than relying on photos or descriptions of another Sixty-Five. WorldWatchReview objected to the launch model’s date interrupting the six-o’clock marker. Time+Tide praised a discreet black date wheel on the version it discussed, saying it avoided intruding into the three numeral. Later versions add further variation. For example, The Modest Man reviewed a different blue-dial 40 mm reference, 01 733 7707 4055-07 8 20 18, and its comments about that watch’s date, bracelet and lume should not be transferred to the original launch model.

Where the original makes compromises
100 m water resistance is a real limit, but not a complete use verdict
The launch model’s reported 100 m rating is lower than what many buyers seek in a dedicated, more technically specified dive watch. Both launch-era and retrospective coverage identify limited water resistance as a drawback. The number alone, however, does not establish whether a particular watch is suitable for a particular dive, nor does it establish certification. The available official information cited here does not verify ISO 6425 certification for the launch reference, so do not treat claims about a later variant as proof for this one. For diving, confirm the exact watch’s documented specification, condition and service history with Oris or a qualified watch professional before relying on it.
The movement is practical rather than a technical centerpiece
Calibre 733 gives the watch automatic operation, but the launch reviews identify it with the Sellita SW200 rather than presenting it as a distinctive in-house complication or movement. That is a sensible trade-off if the draw is the design and everyday mechanical-watch experience; it is less compelling for a buyer chiefly seeking unusual movement architecture.

Some fit details are subjective
WorldWatchReview found the crown could protrude uncomfortably for some wrist positions and objected to the launch model’s date placement. These are reviewer observations, not outcomes that every wearer will share. If possible, try the exact watch on: wrist shape, crown position and tolerance for a date cutting into a marker are personal fit and design questions.

For someone who wants a wearable 40 mm watch with recognizable vintage dive-watch styling, the launch-era Divers Sixty-Five has a coherent case: its proportions, crystal, hands and numerals were the elements contemporary reviewers most often praised. It is a weaker match for someone whose first priorities are higher water resistance, a technically unusual movement, a ceramic bezel or a factory bracelet.

Best Value
- Model 01 733 7707 4055-07 5 20 45
That assessment is about the original 2015 reference. A later Sixty-Five may address or change particular details, but it is a separate buying decision. The Modest Man’s review of a blue-dial 01 733 7707 4055-07 8 20 18, for instance, discusses comfort and crystal positively while raising different concerns about lume and bracelet sizing; those observations illustrate variant-specific differences, not a verdict on the launch watch.
How to evaluate a current or pre-owned Sixty-Five
- Match the reference. Confirm the full reference on the watch and seller’s paperwork. The original launch reference is 01 733 7747 4055-07 4 17 18; do not substitute a later model’s photos or specification sheet.
- Check the exact configuration. Verify dial color, date position, bezel insert, strap or bracelet, case size and lug width for that reference. Do not infer a strap fit from the family name alone.
- Assess water resistance and intended use. Confirm the model-specific rating and whether the watch’s service and condition support your intended use. A rating alone is not proof of dive certification or of present-day water resistance on a pre-owned watch.
- Judge condition and seller as well as the model. For a legacy reference, ask for clear photographs, service documentation where available, return terms and confirmation that the watch is authentic and complete. Condition can matter as much as the launch specification.
- Compare current references only on their own terms. Oris’s U.S. page for reference 01 733 7707 4354-07 5 20 59 lists a 40.00 mm case, 10 bar water resistance, 20 mm interhorn width, Calibre 733 and 38-hour power reserve. Those specifications belong to that current reference, not automatically to the 2015 launch watch. The page displayed a USD 2,000 price and stated that the model was not available online when accessed October 8, 2026; both price and availability can change. See the current U.S. product page for that exact model.
Strap fit: confirm the reference first
A 20 mm strap is relevant only when the watch’s lug width and fitting are confirmed. Oris lists fitting straps for the current 01 733 7707 4354-07 5 20 59, including rubber, leather, textile and bracelet options. That listing does not establish that every 20 mm strap—or those fittings—will suit the original 2015 reference. Check the exact reference and end fit before ordering.
