Yes, the deal was genuine—but it was a historical October 2024 promotion, not a live August 2026 offer. Engadget reported on October 4, 2024 that Amazon had discounted selected Oura Ring Gen 3 models by as much as $100 ahead of its October 8–9 Prime Big Deal Days event. Prices included roughly $299–$300 for many standard configurations, $350 for Stealth Horizon and $450 for Gold, depending on the listing.
The timing mattered: Oura Ring 4 was due to launch on October 15, 2024. That made Gen 3 a potentially good clearance buy, but only at a substantial discount and with the subscription, sizing and aging-hardware risks fully understood.
What the original Oura Ring Gen 3 deal included
The promotion covered selected Gen 3 listings on Amazon. It was not a single price for every size, design or finish, and “up to $100 off” did not mean every ring received the maximum discount.

Engadget reported the original prices and TechRadar later highlighted a $299 Horizon configuration during October 2024 deal coverage. Those were retailer prices that could change by listing, size and stock, so they should not be treated as universal or permanent prices. The offer was an early Prime Big Deal Days promotion—not the main July Prime Day event. The October event itself ran from October 8 through October 9, 2024.
Is the deal still available?
No. As of August 2026, Oura identifies Gen 3 as a previous generation and says the ring and its charger are no longer available to buy directly from Oura. A Gen 3 listing that appears today is therefore likely remaining stock, used inventory, refurbished stock or a third-party listing—not evidence that the 2024 Prime Day offer is still active.
Oura still identifies Amazon and other retailers as potential sales channels, but retailer terms govern shipping, returns and exchanges. Verify the exact generation, condition, seller, warranty and return window before buying. A marketplace listing can use the same product name while offering a used or refurbished ring with very different battery and warranty risks. What is the Oura Ring Gen 3?
Gen 3 is a screenless smart ring designed for passive health and wellness tracking. Its app centers on sleep, activity, heart-rate trends, temperature trends, stress and related readiness insights rather than notifications, calls or an on-device display.

- Horizon: the rounded design with a more uniform exterior.
- Heritage: the more visibly stepped or blockier design.
Gen 3 finishes included Black, Brushed Titanium, Gold, Rose Gold, Silver and Stealth. The Gold and Rose Gold versions cost more because of their finish; they should not be assumed to offer superior sensing or functionality.

Engadget described Gen 3 as tracking more than 20 biometric signals and highlighted pulse readings and integrations including Apple Health, Strava and Google Health Connect. Those are editorial and platform claims, not a substitute for medical equipment or a universal accuracy guarantee. Oura should be treated as a wellness-tracking product, not a diagnostic device.
The subscription changes the real price
The purchase price was only part of the cost. Oura’s current U.S. membership price is $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year. New members receive one complimentary month with a new ring purchase. Membership is linked to the user’s Oura account rather than permanently to one physical ring.
Oura says an active membership unlocks most of the platform’s detailed experience, including advanced sleep analysis, 24/7 heart-rate tracking, advanced temperature features, blood oxygen sensing, stress features, reports and various integrations. Without membership, a Gen 3 still functions, but the app experience is substantially limited. The subscription is therefore not a minor optional add-on for buyers who want the product’s main insights.
Using today’s U.S. monthly rate as a comparison:
- A $299 ring plus 11 paid months after the included month would total approximately $365 before tax.
- A $350 ring would total approximately $416 before tax.
- A $450 ring would total approximately $516 before tax.
These are current-rate illustrations, not exact historical 2024 totals. The original promotion’s subscription price may have differed slightly. Oura’s current membership details are available on its membership support page.
Gen 3 versus a newer Oura ring
The central decision in October 2024 was whether to buy an established outgoing model or wait for Oura Ring 4, which was scheduled for October 15. In 2026, that decision is even clearer: Gen 3 should be considered only when its price is meaningfully below current-generation alternatives.

Gen 3 can make sense when:
- The ring is unusually cheap—close to the historical $299 price rather than $350 or more.
- You mainly want sleep, activity and basic wellness trends.
- You accept the ongoing membership cost.
- The unit is new or reliably refurbished, correctly sized and covered by a strong return policy.
- You do not need the newest sensing hardware or features.
A newer model is the better choice when:
- The Gen 3 price is close to a current Oura model.
- You want newer hardware and Oura’s current Smart Sensing platform.
- You expect to keep the ring for several years.
- You want newer capabilities such as multi-ring support, which Oura lists as unavailable on Gen 3 or older.
- You are concerned about battery aging, warranty coverage or long-term support.
This does not mean Gen 3 has been abandoned entirely. The safer conclusion is that it is a previous generation no longer sold directly by Oura and lacks some newer-generation capabilities. Check Oura’s Oura Ring 4 documentation and multi-ring support page for current feature limitations.
Check sizing before you buy
Smart-ring sizing is not necessarily the same as ordinary U.S. ring sizing. Oura recommends using a sizing kit, and its sizes do not include half sizes. Fit affects comfort and can affect sensor contact and data quality.

- Whether a sizing kit is included.
- Whether the seller accepts size exchanges after opening or pairing the ring.
- Whether the exact ring size is clearly stated.
- Whether the charger matches that specific ring size.
- Whether the retailer or seller credits the sizing kit differently from Oura’s own store.
Oura says chargers are size-specific, so a missing or mismatched charger can turn an apparently cheap purchase into an avoidable extra expense.

In 2026, condition matters as much as price. A new-in-box Gen 3 may have spent years in storage, while a used ring may have reduced battery capacity. Lithium-ion batteries age even when a device is not being actively worn, and sellers may not provide meaningful battery-health information.

Prefer a seller that offers:
- A clearly stated new, used or certified-refurbished condition.
- A dependable return period long enough to test charging and normal use.
- The correct charger and an undamaged ring.
- Clear warranty terms.
- Proof that the listing is authentic and not an unauthorized import.
Oura says new products bought from authorized retailers are covered by its standard limited warranty subject to regional terms. Certified refurbished products may have a separate, shorter warranty, while unofficial sellers may not provide normal warranty protection. Retailer purchases generally must be returned through the retailer.
Do not pay extra for a rare premium finish unless you specifically want its appearance. Gold, Rose Gold and Stealth do not automatically provide better tracking than less expensive finishes.
Who should buy one now?
A Gen 3 can still be a reasonable budget purchase if it is new or reliably refurbished, substantially cheaper than current alternatives, correctly sized and returnable. The historical $299 price was attractive for buyers who accepted the membership and did not need the newest hardware.
At $350 or more, the argument was already weaker when Oura Ring 4 was about to launch. In 2026, a Gen 3 should generally be treated as a niche clearance buy rather than the default Oura recommendation. Skip it if you dislike subscriptions, need smartwatch features or notifications, require medical-grade monitoring, cannot confirm the seller and return policy, or live in a region where Oura membership is unavailable.
Prices and membership availability vary outside the United States. Oura maintains a list of supported countries; check it before purchasing an imported ring.
