The Pasha de Cartier’s 2020 comeback was a renewed presentation of a collection with roots in the 1980s—not the watch’s first appearance. Cartier describes the modern Pasha as true to its first iteration in 1985, retaining the distinctive square-within-a-circle dial, clous de Paris details, Arabic numerals and chained crown while updating elements such as the movement display, crown and strap system.
What the Pasha de Cartier comeback means
Cartier’s collection page calls the new Pasha “true to its first iteration in 1985,” while the Maison’s international overview places the watch’s launch in the 1980s. A June 2020 account described that year’s models as a renewed collection. Together, these sources support calling 2020 a return or refreshed presentation—not the Pasha’s debut, nor proof that it had disappeared from every market beforehand. Cartier’s collection page and its international Pasha overview provide the brand’s framing.
Cartier’s broader watchmaking approach is to revisit historic shapes while modernizing ergonomics. That context helps explain the reissue, but it does not establish a particular Pasha feature by itself. Cartier’s style overview describes that general approach.
What makes a Pasha recognizable?
Cartier identifies four Pasha codes: “A square inside a circle, clous de Paris, Arabic numerals, a chained crown.” The round case encloses dial geometry that emphasizes a square form, while the prominent Arabic numerals and crown chain make the watch recognizable beyond its silhouette. Cartier says these elements amplify the Pasha’s presence and originality. Cartier International’s Pasha page lists the codes.

What changed in the 2020 redesign?
Cartier’s August 2020 design story groups the updates around the crown, movement, strap and personalization. The details modernize the wearing experience without abandoning the collection’s visual identity.
Crown and case details
The crown has a fluted cover and short chain, with a blue spinel or sapphire beneath it. An engraving plate is concealed under the crown guard, adding a personalization detail that is not immediately visible when the watch is worn.

Movement display
Cartier’s description of the 2020 automatic model names the 1847 MC movement and a transparent case back through which it can be seen. That caliber should not be confused with the 9624 MC in the specific skeleton example discussed below: movement varies by reference.
QuickSwitch straps and bracelets
The redesign introduced Cartier’s QuickSwitch system for changing compatible straps or bracelets. Cartier describes options in steel, 18K gold and leather. QuickSwitch does not establish that every strap fits every Pasha; check compatibility for the exact reference before buying an alternative. Cartier’s August 2020 design story details these changes.

How to choose among Pasha references
There is no single specification sheet for the whole collection. Case size, material, movement, complication, dial treatment, strap or bracelet, water resistance, price and availability can differ by reference and market. Use the product page for the exact watch you are considering, rather than carrying a figure from one Pasha over to another.
- Case size: A June 2020 account reports 35 mm and 41 mm models in that year’s line-up. Those are dated collection details, not a guarantee of the current range. Openers’ June 2020 overview describes the models.
- Material and finish: Steel and precious-metal versions appear in the 2020 accounts. Confirm the material and finish of the current reference.
- Movement and complication: The 1847 MC is named for Cartier’s 2020 automatic model. Skeleton and tourbillon versions were also reported in the 2020 collection account, but that does not establish current availability. Check the caliber and functions on the specific product listing.
- Dial treatment: Decide whether you prefer a conventional dial or a skeletonized display with visible bridges and numerals.
- Strap or bracelet: Cartier describes leather and metal options and QuickSwitch on the redesigned collection. Confirm the attachment system and compatible options for your reference.
- Water resistance: Compare the rating on the exact listing. It is not a collection-wide constant.
- Price and availability: Check a Cartier or authorized-retailer listing for your market; a regional price or stock status cannot be treated as global.
A current listing illustrates why reference-level checks matter
Cartier’s Saudi Arabia product page for the 41 mm Pasha de Cartier skeleton watch, reference CRWHPA0017, lists automatic caliber 9624 MC, an approximate 48-hour power reserve and water resistance of 3 bar (approximately 30 m). The page also describes QuickSwitch straps and a 172-part movement. The June 2020 Openers account reports 10 bar for the standard model and 3 bar for skeleton and tourbillon references. Those are dated secondary-source figures, not a substitute for a current product specification. Check the relevant Cartier page for the exact reference and market.

Cartier’s 2020 design story documents QuickSwitch as a way to change compatible straps or bracelets. The availability of a particular option—and whether it fits—depends on the watch reference. Do not assume that a generic or third-party strap is compatible simply because it is marketed for a Pasha; verify the attachment system and reference before purchase.
