Ben Hodges’s December 2021 review compares two Badalassi Carlo leather straps made by The Strap Tailor for an Omega Seamaster 300: a padded full-stitch strap and an unpadded twin-stitch version. He preferred the twin-stitch strap for immediate comfort, but liked the padded model’s shape and appearance. His observations are a personal review of two straps on one watch—not a durability test or verdict on the maker’s entire range.
What Hodges reviewed
The straps were made from Badalassi Carlo shoulder leather from Italy. The review describes it as drum-tanned with oils and animal fats, then dyed tan or brown to create a semi-distressed finish. Both reviewed straps had quick-release pins. Hodges said they felt supple and avoided the overly stiff feel he had disliked in some other straps. Hodges captured his reaction to the maker’s straps this way: “The difference with The Strap Tailor is that you immediately want to put the watch on your wrist when you hold the strap.” It is a subjective impression, not a measured comfort result. The same applies to his preference for the unpadded version’s feel: comfort depends on the wearer, watch and fit.
Check fit before ordering
The reviewed Omega Seamaster 300 has 21mm lugs, a less-common width that Hodges says can limit options from some strap ateliers. The maker’s current custom designer lists a 21/18mm width-and-taper combination, but that listing alone does not establish compatibility with every watch case. Before ordering, verify the specific watch reference and measure or confirm:
- Lug width: the strap width where it meets the case.
- Buckle width: the width at the buckle end; it can differ from the lug width when the strap tapers.
- Length: Hodges advises measuring your wrist rather than assuming a “standard” size. He writes: “Getting the right size improves the wearing experience, so always measure your wrist before adding the ‘standard’ size to the shopping cart.”
- Thickness, taper and padding: check that the chosen profile suits both your wrist and the space between the lugs and case.
- Spring bars and clearance: confirm whether quick-release pins suit your watch and whether the strap will rub the case. Hodges notes that some Rolex sports cases, particularly the Explorer, may need curved spring bars to avoid rubbing; verify the clearance on your exact reference.
What the review’s prices do—and do not—tell you
The £126 and £133 figures above appeared in Hodges’s December 22, 2021 article. He also gave a broad starting range of £114. None should be treated as a current quote. Check the official shop catalogue for present availability and pricing, and confirm delivery destination, lead time and return or custom-order terms directly with the seller; the cited pages do not establish those terms.

What to expect from the current range
The review covers two Badalassi constructions, not every material or style the company offers. The Strap Tailor’s current shop catalogue includes made-to-order and ready-to-wear leather straps, fabric and military styles, rubber and sailcloth straps, metal straps, storage, buckles, leather care, quick-release pins and tools. Its process description says it selects and cuts leather, skives it, adds reinforcement and lining, saddle-stitches and finishes the strap.
