It was the pairing—not a durability test or a universal fit recommendation—that convinced him to buy one.
Why the Reverso looked too formal to him
De Groot had often encountered the Reverso presented as a dressy watch. That impression made it difficult for him to picture the watch with his own casual style. The brown Casa Fagliano calfskin strap gave him a different way to read the design: its folded leather at the lugs and slightly aged-looking tone brought a more informal, rugged character to the watch.
What changed with the Casa Fagliano strap
Folded leather and a gradual transition
The strap is thicker where the leather folds over the lugs. De Groot felt that this worked with the Reverso’s sloping but substantial lugs, creating a more gradual transition from case to wrist. That is his personal fit impression, not a general ergonomic finding for every Reverso wearer.
A small taper and his example’s dimensions
De Groot reports that his medium-size Reverso has a 19 mm lug width and that this strap tapers from 19 mm at the lugs to 18 mm at the deployant clasp. Those measurements describe his watch and strap; they should not be treated as specifications for every Reverso reference.

Soft at first wear, durability still unknown
In the store, he found the leather soft and supple and says it felt comfortable immediately. He also acknowledged that he did not yet know how well it would hold up over time. His early comfort impression is not evidence of long-term durability.
How the strap became a buying trigger
The strap made the Reverso feel compatible with clothes De Groot already wore, rather than like a watch reserved for more formal occasions. That shift in styling is what moved the watch from “too dressy for me” to an appealing option and convinced him to buy it. His account is a personal product editorial, not an independent comparison of straps.

Other strap directions he considered
After the purchase, De Groot considered another option from the Casa Fagliano Collection: a design with leather ends and textile through the main section. He also thought about asking Matteo Torre of Torre Straps to make a custom strap. These were possibilities he mentioned, not tested alternatives or confirmed current products.
De Groot wrote that some of the more exclusive Reverso Tribute models have straps he described as handmade by Casa Fagliano in Argentina. He said other Casa Fagliano Collection straps are made in France and Italy, and believed Camille Fournet and possibly other makers may produce some of them under arrangements with Casa Fagliano. What to check before choosing a strap for your Reverso
The useful lesson is not that one strap suits every Reverso, but that construction and proportions can change how the watch wears and reads. Before buying, check:
- Exact watch reference and lug width: Do not assume the 19 mm measurement reported for de Groot’s medium-size example applies to yours.
- Clasp compatibility: Confirm the strap’s width at the clasp and that its construction works with your specific deployant clasp.
- Thickness and lug shape: Consider whether a folded, thicker strap at the lugs will complement your case and create the transition you want.
- Style and material: Brown leather, a leather-and-textile design, or a custom strap can each give the watch a different character; the source offers no tested ranking among them.
- Comfort versus longevity: Immediate softness is worth assessing in person where possible, but it cannot establish how a strap will age or hold up.
De Groot’s story is a reminder that a strap can change the appeal of a watch without changing the watch itself. The Casa Fagliano pairing made the Reverso feel less formal to him—and that was enough to change his mind.
