The Technos Sky Diver’s strongest appeal is its design, especially the striking dial and the way age has changed its appearance. Michael Stockton’s 2021 Fratello review describes one compelling early example, but it is not a guide to the model’s full history, a dive-watch certification, or today’s market prices. If you are considering one, focus on the exact variant, originality, condition, and serviceability.
What makes the Technos Sky Diver distinctive?
In his October 12, 2021 review, Fratello contributor Michael Stockton judged the Sky Diver primarily as an attractive vintage watch, rather than for diving accomplishments, a celebrated history, or the prominence of its brand name. Its appeal in his account rests on its proportions, unusual dial details, and the character of the particular watch he examined.
Stockton describes Technos as a historic Swiss brand that made dress watches, chronographs, and divers while focusing on Brazilian and Japanese markets. He also notes that Technos used third-party movements and sometimes shared cases with other brands. Those are the review’s historical observations, not a complete or independently established account of the company or model.
Case, dial, and details on the reviewed example
A compact case with familiar company
Stockton reports a 37.5 mm stainless-steel case on the reviewed Sky Diver, in a form he says it shared with the Titus Calypsomatic and Universal Genève Polerouter. He describes a screw-down crown and a screw-in case back with Swiss patent markings. These details describe the watch in his review; they should not be assumed to apply identically to every Sky Diver variant.

He also points out that the watch’s feel on the wrist depends on more than its diameter. Lug width, lug-to-lug span, and the thick, shaped lugs affect how it wears. The source does not give a lug-to-lug measurement, so compare the actual watch with a watch you already find comfortable rather than relying on diameter alone.
An unusually busy, memorable dial
The early example Stockton reviewed has large radium indices, broad luminous hands, a date with red numerals, and an internal magnifier. Its sweep hand has an unusual double-ended arrow shape. The watch also has a domed acrylic crystal and a bidirectional bezel with a lume pip.

Stockton describes the dial as originally glossy black, with its tone now changed by age. He likens the appearance to lacquered wood and treats that transformation as a major part of this individual watch’s appeal. It is his impression of one dial, not a description that can be applied to all Sky Divers.
Sky Diver variants: what is and is not established
The review mentions different dial variations and later examples using tritium rather than radium. It does not lay out a complete chronology, establish production dates for each variant, or provide a definitive guide to identifying every version. Stockton also says the Titus version had historically attracted more attention, with interest in the Technos increasing. That is his observation, not a measured account of collector demand.

When comparing watches, treat each example as its own case. Ask the seller to identify the variant and explain the basis for that identification, then assess whether the dial, hands, lume, bezel, and other visible components appear consistent with the specific watch being offered.
What to inspect before buying
Vintage condition and originality can matter as much as the model name. Stockton’s own experience is a useful illustration: his watch sounded noisy and clanky, and its crown came loose when pulled. A watchmaker found problems in the gear train and crown. His account does not establish how common those faults are, but it shows why attractive photographs are not a substitute for a condition assessment.

- Variant and lume: Establish whether the watch is an early radium-dial example or a later tritium version, if that distinction is being claimed.
- Dial and hands: Examine the condition, patina, and any signs of reluming, restoration, or replacement. Decide whether the particular appearance is appealing to you rather than treating age-related change as automatically desirable.
- Case, crown, and back: Check the case condition, whether the crown operates properly, and what markings are actually present on the case back.
- Movement and service: Ask about movement noise, recent service, and documentation. If possible, have a watchmaker familiar with vintage watches assess it before purchase.
- Originality: Ask whether the bracelet or strap, hands, dial, and other components are original to the watch. The review does not provide a standardized originality or condition scale.
- Fit: Measure the lug width on the individual watch before buying a replacement strap; do not infer it from another Sky Diver.
- Price: Compare the asking price with recent, date-specific sales of genuinely comparable examples. The review does not provide current market comparisons.
Serviceability and the radium question
To complete his repair, Stockton sourced a donor watch from Portugal for €35 and said his Sky Diver returned to his wrist about a month later. Those figures describe one owner’s purchase and repair timeline, not a typical parts cost, service price, or turnaround. He says common Technos movement parts were easier to source than dials and hands, which may make originality and the condition of those visible components especially important to a buyer.
The dial in the reviewed early example contains radium lume. In a reply to a reader, Stockton said he had not sealed the lume from behind because he was concerned that it could affect the hue; he also said he would wear the watch sparingly and mentioned using a lead-lined film bag for his radium watches. These are his personal choices, not safety guidance or a qualified radiological assessment. The review does not establish a safety assessment for this watch. Anyone concerned about a particular example should seek advice from an appropriately qualified professional rather than treating a commenter’s exchange as a safety determination.

Wearing one: strap fit and proportions
Stockton’s example arrived from Japan on a 20 mm leather strap. He later fitted a beads-of-rice bracelet from a same-era Technos Datejust-style watch, while noting it was not the original style and its end links were imperfect. That is one owner’s setup, not proof that every Sky Diver takes a 20 mm strap or originally came on that bracelet. Measure the lug width on the watch you are considering before ordering a 20 mm watch strap or other replacement.
For wrist fit, consider the lug-to-lug span and how the shaped lugs sit, as well as the stated case diameter. The review does not report a lug-to-lug measurement, so this is best checked on the actual watch or with measurements supplied by its seller.
What the 2021 price estimate can tell you
Stockton estimated €2,000–€3,000 for a decent example in 2021, while acknowledging he had not studied how variations affect values. That is a dated, personal estimate—not a current price range, market statistic, or valuation for a particular watch. For a present-day purchase, use recent comparable sales and account for the exact variant, condition, originality, and any known service needs.
Should you buy a Technos Sky Diver?
The Sky Diver is most persuasive for a buyer drawn to its unusual styling and the individual character of a well-preserved or appealingly aged example. It is a less suitable choice for someone seeking a model whose case specifications, history, condition standards, or current value can be established from this single review. Buy the watch in front of you: verify what variant it is, inspect its components and operation, and make sure its condition and price work for you.
