Slide its cover sideways and a concave dial set with two carats of snow-set diamonds appears. That contrast—understated exterior, hidden jeweled interior—is the watch’s defining idea.
How the Oshinobi hides its dial
A horizontally sliding cover conceals the Oshinobi’s dial. The watch’s crown is hidden too: it is reached from the underside of the case at 12 o’clock. The result is a watch that can read as a sculptural bracelet until its wearer chooses to expose the face.
Toledano & Chan is the collaboration between artist and collector Phil Toledano and watch designer Alfred Chan. In an October 6, 2026 report, Hodinkee describes the prototype’s dial as organically shaped and concave, with two carats of snow-set diamonds.
A geode-inspired contrast
The visual concept draws on geodes: rocks whose ordinary-looking exteriors can conceal crystals inside. The Oshinobi applies that contrast to a watch, pairing a discreet, brutalist outer form with a diamond dial that is visible only when the cover is moved.

Toledano described the intended appeal this way: “The idea behind the Oshinobi is that you can now safely wear a diamond watch in public, and like horological lingerie, no one will know you’re wearing it!” That is the creator’s stated design aim, not an independently established safety guarantee. He also described “a secret joy in walking around somewhere like London, and you know you’ve got two carats of diamonds on your wrist, and no one knows.”
Prototype materials and construction
The reported prototype has a 21 mm Grade 5 sandblasted titanium case and an integrated titanium bracelet. Its links alternate in orientation, emphasizing the angular, bracelet-like appearance. A hidden butterfly clasp completes the bracelet. The caseback is engraved “TIME FOR ART.”

The report lists no lume and does not state a water-resistance rating. Those details should not be assumed from the materials or the watch’s appearance.

The Oshinobi prototype is reported to use the manually wound Le Temps Manufactures LTM 200. Its listed specifications are:

The Oshinobi is described as a prototype scheduled for Phillips’ TimeForArt charity auction on December 5, 2026. A limited production edition is planned for 2027. The report does not establish the eventual production quantity, final specifications, retail channel, or price, so those details remain unknown.
