The Tudor Black Bay Chrono is not simply a Black Bay diver with extra pushers. It is a motorsport-minded chronograph with diver-inspired styling, a tachymeter bezel, and a stated 200 m water-resistance rating. The 41 mm version pairs a certified automatic chronograph movement with a substantial case; TUDOR’s 2026 press material also identifies a slimmer 39 mm model, though its local availability and price need confirmation.
What is the Black Bay Chrono?
It is a mechanical chronograph in the Black Bay family, not a dive watch converted into a stopwatch. TUDOR says its first chronograph, the Oysterdate, arrived in 1970, and positions the Black Bay Chrono as a blend of motorsport and professional-diver traditions. The tachymeter bezel and contrasting sub-counters make the chronograph purpose visible; the case and water-resistance claim bring in the Black Bay’s dive-watch cues. TUDOR describes that heritage on its Black Bay Chrono collection page.

What the 41 mm model offers
TUDOR’s current specifications for the 41 mm steel model include a 41 mm diameter, 14.4 mm thickness, 22 mm lug width, sapphire crystal, date at 6 o’clock, and stated water resistance of 200 m. The automatic Manufacture Calibre MT5813 is COSC-certified and has an approximately 70-hour power reserve. These are substantial everyday-sports specifications, but the case thickness is worth considering in person, especially if you prefer a watch that slides easily beneath a close-fitting cuff. Individual fit depends on the wearer and wrist.
The 200 m rating is the manufacturer’s stated water resistance, not a blanket instruction to use the chronograph underwater. Follow the watch’s manual and service guidance, including its instructions about operating pushers around water.

The 41 mm steel options
The 41 mm steel versions are offered with either a three-link rivet-style bracelet or a five-link bracelet, depending on configuration. The official listing for reference M79360N-0011 specifies a black dial with silver counters, three-link bracelet, and T-fit clasp. Other configurations differ, so check the exact reference for dial, bracelet, price, and local availability rather than assuming every Black Bay Chrono has the same setup. TUDOR’s collection page shows the family’s variants.
The 39 mm update
TUDOR’s 2026 press material identifies a 39 mm Black Bay Chrono, reference 79310N, measuring 13.1 mm thick and retaining the MT5813 calibre. That gives buyers who find the 41 mm dimensions too large another size to investigate. The press material establishes the dimensions, but not a current retail price or availability in every market; check TUDOR’s regional listing or ask a retailer before planning a purchase.

Clasp adjustment
TUDOR says the T-fit clasp adjusts without tools across five positions, with an 8 mm adjustment window. That is useful for making small fit changes, but it does not establish that the watch will suit every wrist. Wallpaper* welcomed the five-link and T-fit changes in its 2025 editorial review; that is one publication’s assessment, not a universal comfort finding. Read Wallpaper*’s review.
What does it cost?
At the time its US product page was surfaced in 2026, TUDOR listed reference M79360N-0011 at a suggested retail price of $6,875. A different steel configuration displayed $7,000. These are US, reference-specific price snapshots, not a single price for the whole collection or a guarantee of today’s price: TUDOR says suggested prices and models can change. Verify the selected reference on the official product page and with a local retailer. TUDOR’s retailer finder can help locate one.

How to decide if it fits your shortlist
The useful comparison is not whether the Black Bay Chrono is more popular than another chronograph. No model-specific sales or market-share figure establishes that. Think instead about the features that affect your own choice:
- Fit: Compare the 41 mm model’s 14.4 mm thickness with the 39 mm press-material figure of 13.1 mm, then try the relevant configuration on your wrist. Case diameter alone does not show how a watch sits.
- Design: Decide whether you want the Black Bay’s diver-influenced case language, tachymeter bezel, contrasting counters, and date at 6.
- Movement credentials: The 41 mm steel model uses the MT5813, which TUDOR identifies as COSC-certified. Compare the precise movement, functions, and certification of any alternative you are considering using that maker’s current specifications.
- Water use: Treat the stated 200 m resistance as a product specification, and follow TUDOR’s operating guidance for the chronograph and water.
- Bracelet: Choose between the three-link and five-link versions by trying the exact bracelet and clasp, not by assuming one style is more comfortable for everyone.
- Price and access: Compare current prices in the same market and for the same type of configuration. Retail availability and pricing practices vary.
The Omega Speedmaster and Rolex Cosmograph Daytona are natural names to consider alongside it, but a useful head-to-head needs current specifications for the exact versions being compared. The Black Bay Chrono’s distinct case size, thickness, dial layout, movement credentials, water-resistance claim, and bracelet options are better starting points than declaring a universal winner.
