The range Chopard documents spans 33 mm, 36 mm, and 41 mm watches, plus a 44 mm XL Chrono, with differences in materials, movements, complications, and water-resistance ratings. To compare watches fairly, start with the exact reference.
What the Alpine Eagle is—and what versatility means
Chopard presents the Alpine Eagle as a contemporary sport-chic reinterpretation of its St Moritz watch. According to the brand, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele created the first St Moritz in 1980 and later conceived the Alpine Eagle, drawing on his interest in the Alps and the eagle. Chopard says the dial motif takes inspiration from an eagle’s iris. Chopard’s Alpine Eagle 36 product page and its Alpine Eagle 33 page provide examples of the collection’s presentation.
Here, versatility means breadth across the family: different sizes, finishes, materials, and functions. It does not mean that one model is equally suitable for every use, or that every feature is available in every size. Chopard’s collection pages and catalogue show distinct branches of the range, so the reference—not just the Alpine Eagle name—is the useful unit of comparison. Chopard’s collection page and the 2023 Alpine Eagle catalogue document that breadth.
How the collection varies
Case sizes
Chopard documents 33 mm and 36 mm Alpine Eagle models, a range of 41 mm examples—including XPS and Cadence 8HF variants on its collection page—and a 44 mm XL Chrono. Those diameters give buyers distinct size options, but they do not establish how a watch will sit on an individual wrist; case thickness, bracelet fit, and personal preference matter too. The 33 mm reference, the 36 mm reference, the 2023 catalogue, and the collection page show these examples.

Materials and finishes
Documented configurations include Lucent Steel, Lucent Steel combined with ethical 18-carat gold, full ethical-gold models, titanium in the Cadence 8HF, and precious-metal or gem-set variants. These choices are not distributed uniformly across all sizes and references, so a material shown in one branch should not be assumed to be offered in another. The 2023 catalogue and collection page show examples across the range.
Chopard’s 2025 catalogue search result describes Lucent Steel as having an 80% recycling rate. That is the brand’s stated figure for the material, not an independent lifecycle assessment or a verified percentage for any particular finished watch.

Water resistance is reference-specific
The sourced 33 mm example is rated to 50 metres, while the cited 36 mm reference and the 41 mm and 44 mm catalogue examples are rated to 100 metres. These are model ratings, not a blanket guarantee for the whole collection or a substitute for checking the conditions and care guidance applicable to a particular watch. In particular, do not infer that every Alpine Eagle is appropriate for every kind of water activity from the family name or a different reference’s rating.

How to choose between Alpine Eagle references
Compare the complete reference specifications rather than relying on a collection-level description. These checks help expose the trade-offs that the word “versatile” can obscure:
- Fit: Compare case diameter and thickness, then assess the bracelet or strap configuration and how it sits on your wrist.
- Material and appearance: Confirm whether the specific reference is steel, a steel-and-gold combination, ethical gold, titanium, or a gem-set version, and check its dial and bezel treatment.
- Movement and function: Decide whether a time-only automatic watch fits your needs or whether you want a chronograph or another specialist complication.
- Water resistance: Read the rating on the exact model page; do not transfer a rating from a related size or variant.
- Current market details: Verify the reference, regional price, and availability with Chopard or an authorized retailer. Catalogue specifications and limited-edition availability can become dated.
Chopard’s product pages and catalogue are useful for the maker’s stated specifications and design history, but they do not establish independent wear testing, comparative value, or real-world performance beyond those claims.
