Those are historical specifications, not a promise about how accurately a decades-old example runs today.
Which vintage Seiko is the most accurate?
Among the models covered by Seiko Museum Ginza’s published figures, the 1978 Superior Twin Quartz has the tightest stated rate: ±5 seconds per year. The Grand Twin Quartz, also introduced in 1978, was rated to ±10 seconds per year. For context, Seiko’s first quartz wristwatch, the Quartz Astron 35SQ, was rated to ±0.2 seconds per day and ±5 seconds per month.

The figures use different time units, so the table preserves Seiko’s stated rates rather than treating them as results from a common modern test. How did Twin Quartz achieve its stated accuracy?
Quartz rate can shift with temperature because temperature changes affect an oscillator’s vibration frequency. Seiko Museum Ginza explains that Twin Quartz used one oscillator to detect temperature change and correct the error of the other oscillator, which supplied the timekeeping signal. What does a vintage Seiko’s original accuracy mean today?
It describes the model’s published specification when new, not a verified measurement of any surviving watch. The institutional histories cited here do not establish the current rate, authenticity, service history, repairability, or parts availability of an individual example. A watch’s actual performance needs to be assessed on that watch.

- Confirm the model and movement identification; “vintage Seiko” is too broad to establish a Twin Quartz or Astron specification.
- Request clear photographs of the dial and case back, plus movement photographs where appropriate.
- Ask for a recent timekeeping assessment from someone familiar with vintage quartz movements, and clarify how and when it was measured.
