Zenith updates the package with an automatic Elite 670 movement, a sapphire caseback and a manufacturer-rated water resistance of 600 metres (60 ATM).
How the A3648 fits into Zenith’s diver history
Zenith dates both the DEFY line and the original A3648 to 1969, placing the watch among the early DEFY divers. The 2024 revival is the first vintage Zenith diver to receive the brand’s Revival treatment, according to Zenith’s April 9, 2024 press release. Zenith describes it this way: “The DEFY Revival A3648 represents the first time ever that a vintage ZENITH diver’s watch receives the Revival treatment.”
The revival is a modern recreation, not a claim that every specification matches the 1969 watch. Zenith’s published dimensions, movement and water-resistance rating below describe the current reference, not necessarily the vintage original.
What the revival keeps—and what it updates
Angular case and two bezels
The stainless-steel case measures 37 mm across and 15.5 mm thick. Its angular DEFY shape and fourteen-sided steel upper bezel preserve prominent elements of the design. Inside that frame is a separate unidirectional rotating steel dive bezel, with orange-tinted sapphire insert and black-and-orange markings, according to Zenith’s official product page.
Black dial, orange details
The black dial and orange accents carry the original’s contrasting palette into the revival. Zenith specifies luminous hands and hour markers, making legibility part of the design as well as a visual reference to the tool-watch role.
Modern movement and display back
The revival uses Zenith’s automatic Elite 670 manufacture movement, with approximately 50 hours of power reserve. A transparent sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement. These are specifications for the modern A3648; they should not be read as details about the movement or caseback of the 1969 original.
High stated water resistance and bracelet extension
Zenith rates the watch to 600 metres (60 ATM) and specifies a screw-down crown. That is the manufacturer’s rating, not a recommendation to test a particular watch in water; condition, servicing and correct crown operation matter for any individual example.
The five-link steel bracelet draws on the bracelet made for the historic model by Gay Frères. The revival’s folding clasp has an extension intended to let the bracelet fit over a wetsuit.
