Yes, the pearl earrings are real. The product is the NOVA H1 Audio Earrings, a Bluetooth audio device built into freshwater-pearl jewelry. But they are not conventional in-ear earbuds, and they were not the earrings worn by Kamala Harris during the September 10, 2024 presidential debate.
The H1 is better understood as a pair of tiny, open-ear speakers aimed at the wearer’s ears. That design leaves the ear canal open, but it also means weaker isolation, audible sound leakage, and less convincing privacy than the headline suggests. The original company entered insolvency proceedings, Icebach Sound Solutions later claimed the product’s intellectual property, and ordinary retail availability remains unverified as of August 10, 2026.
What are the NOVA H1 Audio Earrings?
The NOVA H1 is a genuine Bluetooth earphone product disguised as pearl earrings. Each earring combines a real freshwater pearl with silver- or gold-plated jewelry fittings and a small speaker-and-microphone assembly. The product was offered in two basic forms:
- Clip-on: designed for people without pierced ears.
- Stud: designed for pierced ears and held through the piercing.
Icebach’s product information describes the pearl as approximately 12.5 millimeters in diameter. Certification documentation lists the weight at approximately 7.7 grams per earring, which is substantially heavier than a conventional pearl earring but still within the range of wearable jewelry for many users. The earrings connect to a phone, tablet, or computer over Bluetooth and are intended for music, phone calls, and voice-assistant functions. Icebach’s product page and the FCC certification manual provide the most useful primary documentation.

- Phone Stand & 2-in-1 Charging Case: Our Bluetooth headphones not only deliver an exceptional music experience, but their charging case can also function as a phone stand. Simply open the back panel, place your phone on the stand, and you can enjoy movies in landscape mode or make video calls in portrait mode—perfect for freeing up your hands during travels and leisure time.
- Strong and Smart Noise Cancelling: Reduce noise by up to 35dB with an advanced active noise cancelling system. Whether you're at home, on a plane, or in a loud hotel, these earbuds create a personal "sound cocoon" for restful sleep, focused meditation, or deep relaxation—anytime, anywhere.
- Clear Calls & Convenience: Bluetooth headphones adopt with high resolution decoder and dual 10mm low-distortion composite dynamic drivers, making the bass punchier and midrange full and textured, treble crystal crisp. The Bluetooth 5.4 deliver the most secure connection and Fast Pair feature.
- Long Battery Life: With headphone 40mAh capacity and charging bin 450mAh capacity. Wireless bluetooth earbuds offer a long playtime, up to 70 hours total. One earbud can last 7-8 hours per charge. Perfect for cross-country flights, gym marathons, or long trips without chargers.
- Ultra Lightweight: The surface and Angle of earbuds in-ear part have been polished and refined repeatedly to achieve a balance between beauty and comfort and make it comfortable to wear. The compact charging case fits easily in your pocket or bag, likewise, a single earbud weighs only 4g. The elastic silicone strap that comes with Bluetooth earphones makes carrying more convenient.
Calling them “secret wireless earbuds” is therefore only partly accurate. They are wireless earphones in the broad sense, because they receive audio over Bluetooth. They are not earbuds in the usual sense: there is no silicone ear tip, no device inserted into the ear canal, and no seal against outside sound.
How can an earring play audio without an earbud in the ear?
The audio path is relatively straightforward:
- Bluetooth sends music or call audio from the source device to the earrings.
- A miniature speaker inside or next to the pearl produces ordinary airborne sound.
- Internal acoustic chambers and a funnel-shaped opening aim that sound toward the wearer’s ear.
- The sound travels through the air into the ear rather than through an inserted earbud or the skull.
- Because the ear canal remains open, the wearer can also hear surrounding sounds.
Icebach calls the system Directional Sound or out-of-ear hearing. Its explanation focuses on the shape and volume of the acoustic chambers, which are intended to concentrate more of the output toward the ear. The company’s technology page also advises users to set the volume according to the surrounding noise level.
This is not bone conduction. Bone-conduction headphones send vibrations through parts of the skull to stimulate the inner ear. The H1 instead behaves more like an extremely small open-air speaker positioned beside the ear. The difference matters: the sound is competing with ambient noise, and some of it can escape into the surrounding room.
Does directional sound mean only the wearer can hear the audio?
No. “Only you can hear it” is too strong. Directional Sound is a design objective, not a guarantee of private listening.

That may be true as an engineering goal, but independent hands-on testing found meaningful limitations. In its WIRED review, music was audible to nearby coworkers. The reviewer had to lower the volume substantially before other people could no longer hear it, and phone-call audio could also be heard by people nearby at higher volume.
Laptop Mag’s CES testing was more favorable in one limited respect: another person reportedly could not hear the call audio during a brief demonstration. However, that review also described the music as distant and tinny. These were informal reviewer tests rather than controlled acoustic measurements, so they should not be treated as universal laboratory results.
The practical conclusion is more useful than either extreme:
- The H1 may direct more sound toward the wearer than an ordinary miniature speaker.
- Leakage still depends on volume, the wearer’s anatomy, the earring’s position, background noise, and how close other people are.
- At a volume high enough to overcome traffic, office noise, or conversation, nearby people may hear the audio.
- The H1 should not be used for confidential calls or anything requiring dependable audio privacy.
What do the H1 earrings sound like?
The main advantage is not audiophile performance. It is the unusual combination of jewelry styling and an open ear.
Recommended Free Tools
Independent listening reports were underwhelming about music. WIRED described weak bass and a distant, muffled presentation. Laptop Mag similarly characterized the sound as distant and tinny. Those impressions make sense for a tiny speaker operating outside the ear without the acoustic seal provided by an in-ear tip.
Calls may be a more sensible use case than music. The built-in microphones and open design can support hands-free conversations, but call audio is still audible to people nearby at higher volumes. In a noisy setting, the wearer may hear the conversation less clearly, and the other person’s speech can compete with traffic, office chatter, or nearby conversation.
Open-ear does not mean distraction-free. You can hear the room, but that does not guarantee that you can comfortably follow a conversation while music is playing. Raising the volume makes the leakage problem worse and can also create a hearing-safety concern.
Verified technical specifications
The most defensible figures come from the H1 certification and user-manual documentation. Some earlier demonstrations and marketing materials quoted different battery figures, so the numbers below should not be merged with those older claims.
| Specification | Documented detail | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Earring weight | 7.7 grams each | Certification/manual figure |
| Pearl size | Approximately 12.5 mm | Company product description |
| Earring battery | 3.7 V / 24 mAh lithium-ion battery in each earring | Certification/manual figure |
| Charging case battery | 3.7 V / 320 mAh lithium-ion battery | Certification/manual figure |
| Charging | USB-C; case supports wireless charging using WPC 1.2 | Certification/manual figure |
| Charging time | Approximately 90 minutes | Certification/manual figure |
| Music playback | Approximately 4 hours | Based on internal testing with a pre-production set |
| Talk time | Approximately 2.8 hours | Based on internal testing |
| Standby time | Up to 48 hours | Certification/manual figure |
| Case recharges | Up to 3 full recharges | Certification/manual figure |
| Total playback with case | Up to approximately 16 hours | Four hours plus up to three additional charges |
| Bluetooth | Version 5.2 | Certification/manual figure |
| Bluetooth profiles | A2DP, HFP, HSP, and AVRCP | Certification/manual figure |
| Codecs | SBC, aptX, and AAC | Certification/manual figure |
| Operating range | Approximately 10 meters | Certification/manual figure |
| Water protection | Waterproof: no | Do not treat the earrings as water-resistant |
| Hardware/software | V1 hardware and V1 software | Certification/manual figure |
The manual’s four-hour music figure is the safest active-listening estimate to use, but it includes a pre-production-testing qualification. Earlier material gave several different numbers: approximately 3 to 3.5 hours of music, 2.5 to 2.8 hours of talk time, around 14 hours with the case, and, in some campaign material, more than 20 hours under different assumptions. A CES demonstration reported five to six hours of active listening or talking, while WIRED later mentioned up to six hours of active use.
Those discrepancies likely reflect different prototypes, firmware, test conditions, or marketing versions. They are not one consistent battery specification. The certification figures are the strongest technical reference available, but buyers should still expect real-world battery life to vary with volume, calls, Bluetooth conditions, and battery age.
How are the pearl earphones worn?
The clip-on model clamps onto the earlobe, so it does not require a piercing. WIRED found the clip-on version comfortable and secure during ordinary wear. That does not establish that it is suitable for running, sports, dancing, or vigorous movement.

Laptop Mag noted the possibility that sudden contact or movement could dislodge a clip-on earring. Fit can vary with earlobe thickness, hair, glasses, piercing placement, and the alignment of the speaker with the ear. A small change in position may affect both comfort and how effectively the directional opening points toward the ear.

How do they charge and pair?
The documented charging process is simple:
- Place both earrings in the charging case.
- Close the case so the charging contacts engage.
- Charge the case through its USB-C port, or place it on a compatible wireless charging pad.
- Use the case LEDs to monitor charging activity.
The H1 connects to a source device over Bluetooth and supports the standard music and hands-free profiles listed above. The accessible certification documentation does not provide a complete consumer troubleshooting guide or a definitive tap-and-press control map. It would be misleading to publish exact button gestures without a verified current manual.
What did the NOVA H1 cost?
There is no single reliable current price because the product moved through several commercial stages.
- 2021 Kickstarter: campaign rewards and early-backer pricing varied by tier.
- Late 2022 and early 2023 European coverage: approximately €595 for silver and €695 for gold were reported.
- Later Icebach special edition: Icebach listed approximately $1,895 for silver and $1,995 for gold after the 2024 publicity.
- Secondary market: a linked eBay listing showed $1,898, but the listing ended on September 26, 2024 because the item was no longer available.
These are historical or reported prices, not a promise that a pair can currently be ordered. For a product with modest battery life, no stated water protection, limited independent testing, and uncertain support, the later near-$2,000 price makes the H1 a fashion-tech collectible rather than a sensible mainstream earbud purchase.
What happened to the Kickstarter and the original company?
The NOVA H1 campaign launched on Kickstarter in February 2021 and exceeded its funding goal. Public campaign summaries report approximately €103,703 raised from 323 backers, although campaign trackers show different totals depending on when their pages were captured. Nova later stated that shipment of Kickstarter orders had begun.
The outcome is more complicated than saying the campaign definitively shipped nothing. By 2024, Engadget reported that Nova had not logged into Kickstarter since May 2023 and that backers had posted requests for updates. That makes delivery and fulfillment difficult to verify, but it does not prove that no backer ever received a unit.
Nova Products GmbH, the company behind the original campaign, entered insolvency proceedings in 2023, according to the company record. Icebach Sound Solutions says it acquired Nova’s intellectual property and later produced a limited run. Its press information indicates that it has sought partners to manufacture the product at scale.
Can you buy the NOVA H1 now?
Current mainstream availability is unverified. As of August 10, 2026, Icebach still has product and technology pages for the NOVA H1, but those pages do not function like a normal, clearly stocked retail checkout. The prominent eBay listing associated with the product is ended, and the original manufacturer’s insolvency creates obvious questions about warranty service, replacement batteries, repairs, software support, and returns.
The safest buying rule is to confirm all of the following immediately before paying:
- A live seller with the exact NOVA H1 model in stock.
- A final price and shipping destination.
- A written warranty and return policy.
- A support contact that is currently responsive.
- A clear explanation of what happens if one earring or the charging case fails.
- Whether the product is new, refurbished, a prototype, or a limited-run unit.
Do not treat an old product page, archived review, or ended marketplace listing as proof of current availability. The H1 exists as documented hardware and limited-run product history, but it is not currently presented as a normal, widely stocked retail device.
Were these the earrings Kamala Harris wore at the debate?
No. Viral posts claimed that Kamala Harris wore Nova H1 audio earrings during the September 10, 2024 debate, sometimes implying that they were concealed communications devices. The earrings worn by Harris were identified in fact-checking and style coverage as Tiffany pearl earrings, not NOVA H1 Audio Earrings.
FactCheck.org and PolitiFact both addressed the claim. Icebach also said that the design did not match its product; its statement is included in the company’s press material. The existence of a real audio earring does not validate the claim that it was used at the debate.

The H1 concept makes sense for a narrow group of users:
- People who dislike ear tips or experience irritation from in-ear headphones.
- Listeners who want the ear canal to remain open.
- Fashion-tech enthusiasts who value jewelry styling more than audio performance.
- People who want hands-free calls without wearing visibly conventional earbuds.
- Collectors interested in unusual early wearable-audio hardware.
It is a poor fit for anyone who expects AirPods Pro-level music quality, reliable call privacy, active noise cancellation, strong isolation, long uninterrupted playback, water protection, or dependable long-term manufacturer support.

Current alternatives
There are better-supported choices, although none is an exact replacement for pearl earrings.
Peripherii Priamble: the closest jewelry-oriented alternative
Peripherii’s Priamble is the closest current concept: non-insert Bluetooth open-ear earphones with decorative jewelry overlays. The company’s 2026 materials list models with 10-millimeter drivers, Bluetooth 5.4, up to 4.5 hours of music, up to 3.5 hours of talk time, four case recharges, and iOS/Android compatibility. The listed models are not waterproof.
The collection page shows many designs around $225 to $265, but individual product pages have shown inconsistent stock states, including “sold out.” Check the exact model’s availability, warranty, and return terms before ordering. The Preamble usage page provides wearing and pairing information.
Bose Ultra Open Earbuds: better open-ear audio, less jewelry
Bose Ultra Open Earbuds use a cuff-like open-ear design rather than a pearl earring. Bose lists Bluetooth multipoint, IPX4 water resistance, up to seven hours of battery life, and no active noise cancellation. The US Bose site has shown a $299 list price as well as temporary lower promotional prices, so confirm the current price when buying.
They are the more sensible option for a reader prioritizing established-brand support, longer battery life, and open-ear listening over jewelry styling.
Sony LinkBuds: small open-ring design
Sony LinkBuds use an open-ring driver that lets environmental sound through. Sony lists IPX4 protection, up to 5.5 hours from the earbuds plus up to 12 hours from the case, multipoint connectivity, and a $179.99 US MSRP. They look like technology rather than jewelry, but they are a more conventional choice from an established manufacturer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBottom line: real technology, limited practicality
The NOVA H1 Audio Earrings were real Bluetooth earphones integrated into freshwater-pearl earrings. Their speakers sit outside the ear canal and use directional acoustic design to aim sound toward the wearer. That makes them genuinely unusual, but not magical: the audio is open-air, music quality is limited, leakage can be audible, and privacy is not dependable.
The H1 is interesting as fashion-tech history and may appeal to a collector who can verify an authentic, supported unit. It is difficult to recommend as a normal earbud purchase, particularly at the reported limited-edition prices and with the original company’s insolvency and current availability unresolved. And the earrings worn by Kamala Harris at the 2024 debate were Tiffany jewelry—not Nova H1 audio earrings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the NOVA H1 pearl earrings real wireless earbuds?
They are real Bluetooth earphones, but not conventional in-ear earbuds. They use miniature open-air speakers aimed toward the ear, leave the ear canal open, and do not provide active noise cancellation or a sealed ear-tip fit.
Can other people hear the NOVA H1 earrings?
Yes, they can, particularly at higher volume or at close range. The manufacturer claims its directional acoustic design reduces leakage, but WIRED reported hearing music and call audio nearby. They should not be treated as private headphones.

Are the NOVA H1 earrings bone-conduction headphones?
No. They produce ordinary airborne sound from a miniature speaker beside the ear. Bone-conduction headphones transmit vibrations through the skull, which the H1 does not do.
Can I buy the NOVA H1 Audio Earrings now?
Current mainstream availability is unverified as of August 10, 2026. Icebach maintains product information and says it acquired the intellectual property, but there is no clearly verified, widely stocked retail checkout. Confirm stock, warranty, returns, and support before paying.
Did Kamala Harris wear Nova audio earrings at the 2024 debate?
No. FactCheck.org and PolitiFact identified the earrings as Tiffany pearl earrings, and Icebach said their design did not match the NOVA H1. The viral audio-earring claim was unsupported.
Are the NOVA H1 earrings waterproof?
No waterproofing should be assumed. The certification documentation says “waterproof: no,” so they should not be recommended for rain, swimming, heavy sweating, or workouts.
