What is the Maison Margiela faceless watch?
It is a watch-like bracelet with no conventional visible dial. The missing face is the point: its appearance foregrounds the bracelet, leaving the expected visual cue of a watch—the dial—out of view. Marketplace listings use names including “faceless watch,” “faceless watch bracelet” and “no-dial watch,” and label examples AW2006/07 or 2006–2007. Those are seller descriptions, not a definitive archival record. Grailed listings illustrate the labels currently used for individual pieces.
The “useless” label is therefore a joke about the tension between jewelry and timekeeping, not a verified technical verdict. The listings and design commentary establish the face-less appearance, but do not document the movement or display mechanism of the particular vintage object.
Was it actually part of Margiela’s H&M collaboration?
The dates need to be kept separate. Resale listings label examples AW2006/07 or 2006–2007. H&M’s later Maison Martin Margiela collaboration was officially announced for Autumn/Winter 2012, with a November 15 launch. An interview about that 2012 collection describes it as re-editions from different seasons and names a “faceless watch bracelet” among the transformed objects. That context does not prove that every similarly named listing is the same item, or that a watch labelled 2006/07 was originally an H&M collaboration piece.

There are also seller listings that use H&M language, including one describing a silver steel watch with a no-dial face. A separate AW2009 listing calls its item a “Faceless Watch Belt/Long Bracelet,” with the seller saying it can be worn as a belt or elongated bracelet. These descriptions show that listings attach different dates, forms and labels to faceless-watch pieces; they do not settle the objects’ precise archival lineage. H&M’s 2012 announcement confirms the collaboration’s announced season and launch date.
Why does a watch without a face fit Margiela?
In a 2012 Vogue article, Lynn Yaeger placed the design within the house’s challenges to conventional ideas of function and appearance: “The designer Martin Margiela, and the house that still bears his name, has been overturning sartorial assumptions since 1989, questioning preconceived notions of feasibility, functionality, and even basic attractiveness—jackets are chicer for having been crazily exaggerated and turned inside out; an enormous bracelet is, in reality, a watch without a face.” This is Yaeger’s description, not a quote from Martin Margiela. It explains why an object that reads visually as jewelry can be understood as part of the house’s conceptual design language, without proving anything about its mechanics. What do resale listings tell us about its value?
They show that collectors encounter the watch through second-hand listings, but asking prices are not sale results or appraisals. One Grailed listing labelled AW2006 shows an asking price of $580; another labelled 2006–2007 shows $450. Those are prices attached to individual listings, not evidence of completed transactions or a representative market value. Condition, authenticity evidence and marketplace protections matter when assessing a particular listing.

Maison Margiela’s official MM6 site lists a separate Timex x MM6 T80 ring watch. It shifts a digital watch into a gold-colour stainless-steel ring format, but unlike the vintage faceless bracelet, it has a visible digital display. The official product listing specifies a stainless-steel case and expansion band, mirrored mask, acrylic crystal and 30 m water resistance.
