Timex’s American Documents watches were assembled by hand in Middlebury, Connecticut, but they were not made entirely in the United States: Timex said the four-watch launch collection paired American materials with a Swiss movement. The distinction matters—the collection represented a return to U.S. assembly, not an all-domestic supply chain.
What was the Timex American Documents collection?
Timex announced American Documents on April 16, 2019, as part of its 165th-anniversary story. The company described four watches, assembled by hand at its Middlebury, Connecticut, headquarters, using a Swiss movement alongside American materials. Timex said the watches were produced in small batches with a mix of modern proprietary and traditional techniques. Timex’s launch announcement is the primary source for those claims.
The launch had a visual story as well as a manufacturing one: Timex worked with photographer Bryan Schutmaat on a photographic project. Schutmaat described the appeal of the landscape this way: “There’s a sense of possibility that comes from the vastness of this country,” he said in the launch release.
Are Timex American Documents watches really made in America?
Partly, and the wording should be precise. Timex said the watches were hand-assembled in Connecticut and identified several American-made materials or components. It also explicitly described the movement as Swiss. Independent launch coverage characterized the parts as mostly domestically made, rather than claiming every component originated in the United States. Hodinkee’s launch coverage and WatchTime’s coverage provide that broader context.

Timex named three specific details: American cowhide leather straps from Minnesota, impact-resistant Gorilla Glass 3 made in Massachusetts, and “Aged Waterbury Brass” used for the case-back coin and crown insert. These are the company’s descriptions in its 2019 announcement; they do not establish the origin of every part or the exact sourcing of each individual watch.
Where were the watches assembled?
Middlebury, Connecticut. Timex presented the collection as a return of watch assembly to its headquarters there. In an October 30, 2019, blog post, the company also said Insider visited the headquarters to see American Documents watches being assembled in the USA. That documents the assembly setting, but it is not a test of the watches’ accuracy, durability, or water resistance. Timex’s account of the visit describes the feature.

What did the Timex American Documents watches cost at launch?
Timex announced a retail price of $495 in April 2019 and said the collection was then available through Timex.com. Those are launch-era details, not a current offer. The available sources do not establish present-day stock, resale prices, or the condition of any watch listed by a seller.

The launch record supports a clear account of the collection’s origin story and materials, but not a full model-by-model buying comparison. It does not establish complete specifications for all four watches, including exact dimensions, water resistance, movement caliber, or current reference availability. Nor does it provide performance testing that would justify claims about accuracy, durability, or value.

If assessing a particular watch today, confirm the exact model reference and check its specifications, condition, and actual asking price against a reliable listing. Do not assume that a detail reported for the collection as a whole applies identically to every reference.
