It clearly makes a case for retro-futurist appeal; whether it is a commercial “hit” is a different question, and no published sales figures establish that. Timex listed the U.S. model at $329 and called it a Timex.com exclusive when checked on October 7, 2026. Regional references, prices and specifications can differ.
What is the Timex Marlin Jet Automatic 38mm?
TW2V72300 is Timex’s U.S. reference for the 38 mm Marlin Jet Automatic with a fabric strap. The U.S. and EU product pages describe a brushed stainless-steel case, automatic movement and a distinctive crystal-and-bezel profile. Check the reference on the listing before buying: similar regional models may not share every specification.
Timex frames the design as a modern interpretation of 1960s futuristic ideals. That fits the company’s broader Marlin history: Timex Group India’s 2024 annual report says the original Marlin watches debuted in the 1950s and became a centerpiece of the collection in the 1960s. This establishes historical context, not a direct one-to-one reissue of a particular vintage Marlin Jet.
What makes its design stand out?
Timex’s defining feature is the domed Hesalite crystal, which extends over the grooved ring bearing the Marlin name. The curved crystal and bezel create a more sculptural profile than a conventional flat-crystal watch. Timex also specifies a silver-white concave dial with a crosshair pattern, a 24-hour-format subdial beside 9 o’clock, and an exhibition caseback. The U.S. page calls the strap woven Perlon; the EU listing identifies it as blue woven Perlon.

- Cream Dial Design: Cream dial with full Arabic numerals pairs with an adjustable green fabric strap for a rugged, outdoor look
- Adjustable Strap: A comfortable band fits securely up to an 8-inch wrist circumference for everyday wear, day in and day out
- Indiglo Backlight: A push of the button illuminates the dial and luminous hands in the dark, day or night, rain or shine
- All-Weather Durability: A mineral glass crystal and water resistance to 50 meters keep this field watch ready for daily wear
- Built to Last: A Timex watch is designed for durability and everyday reliability; every piece reflects our commitment to quality without compromise
Timex describes the watch as capturing “futuristic design ideals of the ‘60s” in a brushed 38 mm steel case. The design is the strongest reason to consider it: the crystal, grooved ring and concave dial give the watch a recognizable retro-futurist character rather than relying on a simple vintage-style dial.

How does the automatic movement work?
Timex specifies a self-winding, 21-jewel automatic movement that stores approximately 40 hours of energy. Wrist motion powers it during wear. Timex says that if the watch stops after being motionless for more than 40 hours, the wearer can wind it with the crown until resistance is felt or wear it to restart it.
Those are manufacturer specifications and instructions. No independently measured accuracy, reserve, durability or long-term reliability is established here. The 50 m water-resistance rating and Japan-made movement Timex lists for Japan reference TW2Y24400 apply to that regional reference; they should not be assumed for TW2V72300.

How much does it cost, and is it worth it?
On October 7, 2026, Timex listed TW2V72300 for $329 on its U.S. site and €319 on its EU site. Timex labels the U.S. listing a Timex.com exclusive. These are time-sensitive regional listings, not a guarantee of current price, stock, tax treatment or availability elsewhere. The cited listings do not establish that the exact reference is currently sold on Amazon.
Whether it is worth the price depends on what matters to you. Its most distinctive proposition is the domed Hesalite crystal and the retro-futurist case-and-dial design, paired with an automatic movement and a stated reserve of about 40 hours. Before deciding, weigh those features against the dimensions, strap fit, local price and a seller whose listing clearly matches the reference you want. No comparable alternative is assessed here because current specifications and pricing for other models have not been established on the same basis.

Is it “another retro hit”?
As a design judgment, the Marlin Jet has a credible claim: Timex gives it clear 1960s cues and a distinctive silhouette, rather than merely applying a vintage label to a conventional watch. As a claim about sales or popularity, “hit” is unproven. No sales, sell-through, market-share figures or independently verified reviewer verdicts for this model are established by the available sources.
Do not confuse TW2V72300 with the related Marlin Jet Titanium Automatic GMT announced by Timex on July 3, 2026. That separate model has a 40 mm titanium case, GMT function and date display, and Timex listed it at $549 in the U.S. It is not the 38 mm stainless-steel watch discussed here.
