The Tudor Black Bay 32 ref. M79580 is the original 32mm version of the Black Bay: a date-equipped automatic with a smooth steel bezel, domed sapphire crystal and 150m water resistance. Its compact diameter is not a gender category; whether it suits you depends on the proportions and wrist presence you want. This is a specification-led review, not a personal wear test: no firsthand fit, comfort or handling observations are claimed.
What is the Tudor Black Bay 32 ref. 79580?
Ref. 79580 belongs to Tudor’s launch-era Black Bay 32/36/41 family, introduced with 32mm, 36mm and 41mm cases. The 32mm version pairs the collection’s restrained, smooth-bezel design with a date display at 3 o’clock. Tudor described the model as “Waterproof to 150 m (500 ft)” in its Black Bay 32/36/41 press release.

The stainless-steel case has polished and satin finishes, while the smooth bezel is polished steel. A domed sapphire crystal covers the dial, and the screw-down steel crown bears Tudor’s rose. Launch configurations included black, silver or blue dials, with a steel bracelet, brown leather strap or black fabric strap. Tudor’s press release groups specifications across the 32/36/41 family; the date and movement details below are specific to the 32mm model.

Movement: T600 or ETA 2824?
The naming differs by source, so it is best to preserve both descriptions rather than silently treating them as interchangeable. Tudor’s launch press release calls the self-winding movement Calibre T600 and gives an approximately 38-hour power reserve. Monochrome Watches’ review of the Black Bay 32 ref. 79580 identifies the calibre as an ETA 2824 and also reports a 38-hour reserve. The practical specification supported by both sources is an automatic movement with about 38 hours of reserve; the designation depends on which source’s terminology is being used.

#1 Best Overall
- Tudor Black Bay Automatic 32 mm Blue Dial Ladies Watch M79580-0003
Is the Black Bay 32 a good watch for women?
It can be a candidate for anyone who wants a smaller, relatively understated steel watch, but 32mm alone cannot determine whether it will fit or feel right. Case diameter describes width, not the entire footprint or how a watch sits on a wrist. Lug geometry, bracelet adjustment, wrist shape and the degree of presence you prefer all matter. The available specifications do not state lug-to-lug length or a tested wrist-size range.
There is no need to treat the model as exclusively feminine. A 32mm watch can read as discreet or deliberately compact across different styles; the dial and strap also change its character. Black, silver and blue dials offer distinct looks, while the bracelet gives a more continuous steel appearance than the leather or fabric alternatives. Those are styling considerations, not claims about how this reference wears in person.
Rank #2
- 41mm steel case with polished and satin finish
- Bidirectional rotatable bezel in steel with 24-hour graduated anodised aluminium disc
- Self-winding mechanical movement with 70 hour power reserve
For a reliable fit judgment, try the exact reference on if possible, or compare its stated 32mm diameter with a watch you already own. Check how the case sits across your wrist and whether the bracelet can be sized comfortably. A photograph or diameter alone cannot establish that.
How does it compare with the current Black Bay 31/36/39/41?
Tudor’s newer Black Bay 31/36/39/41 family provides useful size context, but it is not a like-for-like update to the discontinued 32mm reference. Its cases are 31, 36, 39 and 41mm, it is rated to 100m rather than 150m, and it uses modern manufacture calibres. Tudor’s official Black Bay 31/36/39/41 press document specifies flat sapphire crystals and T-fit bracelet clasps for that family.

- WatchCharts records a US retail price of $3,100 as of January 2023.

Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want a compact 32mm steel Black Bay with a date, smooth bezel and 150m stated water resistance.
- Compare it with the newer 31mm model if you want the closest current-family diameter, while recognizing the newer watch has different movement, water-resistance and crystal specifications.
- Look beyond diameter if fit is decisive: the available sources do not establish lug-to-lug length or a wrist-size range.
- For a pre-owned purchase, judge the specific watch and seller rather than relying on historical retail prices or a market estimate.
