What “against the trend” means here
TUDOR’s launch copy says that modern watchmaking is moving smaller and introduces the Black Bay 68 as a way of “thinking big.” That is the brand’s positioning, not an independently established market statistic. The more concrete point is that 43 mm gives the Black Bay range a larger-size option for buyers who want a substantial case rather than a smaller-wearing watch.

The name also refers to a specific part of TUDOR’s design history. The brand says it conceived its Snowflake hand in 1968 and added it to the catalogue in 1969; it describes the Black Bay 68 as a tribute to that design moment.

The current product page reports 13.6 mm case thickness. TUDOR’s 2025 press-kit technical sheet also lists a 43 mm case but gives “total diameter” as 33.8 mm and thickness as 6.5 mm. Those dimensions do not align with the live product-page thickness figure, and the available official information does not explain the discrepancy; the 6.5 mm and 33.8 mm figures should not be treated as settled case measurements.
What the METAS certification covers
TUDOR identifies the MT5601-U as both COSC-certified and METAS-certified. The brand says the METAS Master Chronometer certification examines precision, resistance to magnetic fields, water resistance and power reserve. Its product page specifies resistance to a 15,000-gauss magnetic field, with precision checked after exposure, alongside the published 200 m water-resistance rating and 70-hour power reserve. These are TUDOR’s published specifications and description of certification, not independent test results for this article.
