What is the TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield 42000CN?
Reference 42000CN is the black-and-white version of TUDOR’s Fastrider Black Shield: a mechanical chronograph with a ceramic case. The 2015 coverage specifically associated this reference with the XDiavel. That distinction matters because the Black Shield line’s earlier 2013 launch was accompanied by a customized Ducati Diavel Carbon, not an XDiavel. GPHG’s record identifies the model and records its 2013 launch; Hodinkee’s 2015 coverage describes the XDiavel inspiration for the 42000CN.
How is the watch connected to Ducati’s XDiavel?
The connection is a design association. TUDOR’s 2013 press kit describes the Black Shield’s monobloc high-tech matte-black ceramic case and documents the launch collaboration around a customized Diavel Carbon. In 2015, the black-and-white 42000CN was described as inspired by Ducati’s XDiavel. These are separate moments and separate motorcycle references; the launch Diavel Carbon should not be relabeled an XDiavel. The watch is not a motorcycle instrument, and the sources do not establish that it was supplied with a bike.
Ducati’s design editorial quotes Design Director Andrea Ferraresi describing the XDiavel design aim as “A real Ducati Technocruiser.” That is Ferraresi’s description of the motorcycle’s design, not a TUDOR statement or an objective assessment of the watch. Ducati’s XDiavel design editorial provides that context.

The black ceramic case and high-contrast white details give the watch its defining visual character. Ceramic construction is a material choice, not evidence that the case is unbreakable; the available specifications do not support that claim.
