The Tudor Black Bay GMT Opaline is a 41mm steel travel watch with a matte white-grey, slightly silvery dial—not an officially named “Albino” model. Its colorway recalls the disputed white-dial Rolex GMT-Master 6542, but that resemblance is an analogy, not a confirmed Tudor origin story. The practical appeal is more direct: a jumping local-hour hand, a 24-hour GMT hand and a bidirectional bezel let the watch display up to three time zones.
What “Albino-like” means—and what it doesn’t
Tudor calls the dial opaline. The brand describes its galvanic finish as matte white-grey with a slight silvery hint, rather than stark white, and says the marker surrounds are darkened for contrast. The watch has luminescent markers; Tudor describes the dial as highly legible, though that is a manufacturer characterization rather than an independent measurement. Tudor’s product page and Black Bay GMT collection page give the brand’s description.
The “Albino” comparison refers to alleged white-dial examples of the first-generation Rolex GMT-Master reference 6542. Monochrome’s 23 May 2023 article says only a handful are known and that their originality is debated; it uses the comparison as a visual evocation, not proof of an established historical lineage. Monochrome’s discussion and Hodinkee’s 27 March 2023 launch coverage frame the resemblance as a wink or visual reference. Neither establishes that Tudor officially confirmed direct inspiration.
How the Black Bay GMT tracks three time zones
The GMT hand makes one rotation every 24 hours and points to reference time on the bezel’s 24-hour scale. The local hour hand jumps independently in one-hour increments and is linked to the date, so a traveler can adjust local time without losing the reference-time indication. The bidirectional bezel can then be rotated to read a third zone against the GMT hand. Tudor describes this arrangement on its collection page; the detailed mechanism and operation are specified in its 2023 technical sheet.

- Set the 24-hour GMT hand to your reference time.
- Jump the local hour hand to the destination’s local time; the date changes with the local-hour setting as appropriate.
- For a third zone, rotate the 24-hour bezel so its offset from the GMT hand represents that zone, then read the corresponding hour on the scale.
The technical sheet specifies a 48-notch bidirectional bezel, stop-seconds and an instantaneous date at 3 o’clock. The screw-down crown supports the watch’s rated water resistance, but the GMT function itself is the feature that makes it useful for travel rather than merely a two-color bezel.
Case, movement and key specifications
The fabric-strap reference M79830RB-0012 is a substantial 41mm steel watch: Tudor lists 14.6mm thickness and 22mm lug width. It has a domed sapphire crystal, burgundy-and-blue 24-hour bezel and 200m (660ft) water resistance. Those dimensions make thickness and overall footprint worth considering; they do not establish how the watch will fit a particular wrist.

- Frequent travelers: the independently jumping local hour hand and three-zone bezel/GMT arrangement are useful if you routinely track home and destination time.
- Readers drawn to the white-dial look: the dial’s appeal is its muted grey-silver character and contrast with the darkened marker surrounds, not a pure white surface.
- Buyers choosing between configurations: decide whether the rivet-style steel bracelet or black fabric strap is the preferred supplied option, then compare the current price for that exact reference.
- Buyers assessing fit: use the listed 41mm diameter, 14.6mm thickness and 22mm lug width as starting points. Actual comfort cannot be inferred from specifications alone.
