The Tudor Heritage Black Bay 36 ref. 79500 is a 36 mm automatic steel watch with a black dial and smooth bezel. Tudor’s archival specification lists a calibre 2824 movement, approximately 38 hours of power reserve and 150 m water resistance. Its CHF 2,400 starting price is historical, not a current retail quote; recent pre-owned asking prices are a separate and limited snapshot.
What is the Tudor Black Bay 36 ref. 79500?
Introduced at Baselworld 2016, the 79500 brought the Black Bay design into a smaller, simpler format, according to Monochrome Watches’ contemporary review. It is the Heritage Black Bay 36—not the later Black Bay 36 references 79600, M79640 or related variants. Those distinctions matter when checking specifications or comparing prices.
The archival Tudor product sheet is the source for the 79500 specifications below. It describes a steel case with polished and satin finishes, a polished smooth steel bezel and a black dial. The result is a straightforward three-hand-style Black Bay configuration without the model family’s signature rotating dive bezel.
Tudor Heritage Black Bay 36 79500 specifications

These are manufacturer specifications, not measurements of a particular used watch. The 150 m rating does not establish the water resistance of an aged example today; condition and maintenance matter. Tudor’s archival sheet does not identify the 2824 as a manufacture movement or state that it is COSC-certified, so those descriptions should not be applied to this reference on the basis of that sheet.

For an individual listing, compare like with like: check the seller’s terms, service history, authenticity information, and whether the watch includes the bracelet or straps and the box and papers. A used example may not retain every item originally supplied.

What to check before buying a used 79500
- Confirm the reference. Make sure the listing is for 79500 rather than a later 36 mm Black Bay reference.
- Assess condition and service records. Tudor’s original water-resistance rating is not a current test result for an individual used watch.
- Check configuration and completeness. Verify which bracelet or strap is fitted and whether any additional strap, box and papers are actually included.
- Evaluate the seller and terms. Ask what authenticity checks, returns and warranty or service arrangements apply to that specific listing.
- Do not assume strap compatibility. The available specifications do not establish the 79500’s lug width or the end-fit compatibility of replacement straps; verify fit for the exact watch before ordering.
