The Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition” is built around an unusual idea: a tachymeter arranged for cycling speeds, rather than the higher speeds associated with many conventional chronograph scales. Start the chronograph over a known distance, stop it at the finish, and use the dial to estimate average speed. That makes the watch’s cycling purpose more than a color scheme—but published specifications alone cannot establish how easy or comfortable it is to use on an actual ride.
How the cycling tachymeter works
Tudor says the tachymeter function was specifically designed for cycling. Its scale spirals around the dial, with values arranged for speeds cyclists routinely sustain. The scale is used with the chronograph to estimate average speed over a measured distance; Tudor’s setting guide also describes using it to measure speed or flow rate.

- Choose a known distance, such as a marked course segment.
- Start the chronograph as you begin that distance.
- Stop it when you reach the end.
- Read the tachymeter scale in conjunction with the elapsed-time measurement to obtain an average-speed estimate.
Tudor describes the scale as “wrapped” around the dial in a spiral so that average speeds cyclists routinely operate at can be read at a glance. That is the manufacturer’s description of the design, not a finding about how readily a moving rider can read it. The available product information does not establish that the watch replaces a cycling computer or that consulting it while riding is safe.
What the watch is—and how it fits a ride
Reference M25827KN-0001 is a 43 mm chronograph with a matte black carbon-composite case, fixed strap bars and a fixed 60-minute bezel. Tudor lists its thickness as 13.2 mm, its strap width as 22 mm, and its water-resistance rating as 100 m (330 ft). A domed sapphire crystal covers the matte black dial, which has red accents and luminescent ceramic-composite applied hour markers. The crown and pushers are titanium, and the watch is supplied on a single-piece black fabric strap. Tudor’s model page provides the current specifications.

The fixed bars are a meaningful ownership detail: the official specification is for a one-piece fabric strap, and an ordinary interchangeable-strap fit should not be assumed. The published dimensions also do not answer whether the case or strap will suit a particular wrist, glove, sleeve or riding position. No verified ride assessment establishes comfort over long distances, legibility in motion or the tachymeter’s accuracy in real cycling conditions.
The 100 m rating is a specification, not evidence from a field test, and the Cycling Edition’s stated feature emphasis is cycling rather than diving. Hodinkee noted at launch that its water resistance was reduced from 200 m on the earlier FXD Chronograph and that this edition uses a fixed bezel. Hodinkee’s May 3, 2024 launch coverage supplies that historical comparison.

Chronograph movement and specifications
The automatic Manufacture Calibre MT5813 powers the chronograph. Tudor identifies it as derived from Breitling 01, with a regulating organ developed by Tudor and exclusive finishes. Its listed features include a column wheel, vertical clutch, silicon balance spring, COSC certification and approximately 70 hours of power reserve. Tudor says the movement’s performance exceeds COSC standards, specifying −2/+4 seconds per day, and says each fully assembled chronograph is tested. Those are manufacturer statements, not independent accuracy results for this particular watch.
The chronograph has a 45-minute counter; the date sits at 6 o’clock. Tudor’s 2024 specification sheet lists a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz) and 41 jewels. The launch specification sheet is the source for those fine-grained figures.

Price, availability and warranty
Tudor’s US model page currently displays a suggested retail price of $6,375 for reference M25827KN-0001 and provides a retailer locator. Prices vary by region and may change; a listed price does not confirm stock at a particular dealer. Tudor also lists a five-year transferable guarantee, with no registration or periodic maintenance checks required. See the official model page for current US pricing and guarantee terms.
For historical context, Hodinkee reported a $5,275 launch price in its May 2024 article and described the watch as not limited and part of Tudor’s active lineup at launch. That is not the current displayed US price. The launch specification sheet lists CHF 4,950 including Swiss VAT; that 2024 Swiss figure is a separate regional and dated price, not a current conversion or US price.

Who should consider the Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition?
Its clearest case is for someone who wants a mechanical chronograph with cycling-specific design, including a tachymeter intended for average-speed readings over a known distance. The decision also depends on whether the 43 mm case, 13.2 mm thickness, fixed strap bars and supplied one-piece strap suit the wearer’s preferences. The published material explains the concept and specifications, but does not settle practical questions such as long-ride comfort, at-a-glance readability while moving, or real-world tachymeter performance. Those require firsthand use rather than inference from the product page.
