Its most unusual choice is also its main trade-off: the GMT hand makes a 24-hour turn, but the dial has no 24-hour scale. That gives the watch a strong visual identity, while asking the wearer to interpret the second time zone rather than read it at a glance.
What is the Schofield Light?
Schofield describes the Light as a general-purpose field watch and a new case design for the brand. It comes in two colorways: The Light One and The Dark One. The company says each is limited to 150 watches. The specifications below are Schofield’s published claims, rather than independent measurements.
The Dark One’s official product listing identifies a Seiko NH34A automatic GMT movement. The case is PVD-coated stainless steel with an anti-fingerprint coating. A box sapphire crystal has multiple anti-reflective coatings; the flush-fit case back is mineral crystal, with printed artwork and small apertures through to the movement. The crown screws down, and Schofield states water resistance of 200 m.
Case dimensions and dial design
Schofield lists the Dark One’s case diameter as 40 mm, lug length as 48 mm, height as 13.5 mm including lugs, and lug width as 22 mm. It weighs 96 g with the supplied strap and buckle. The maker describes the dial as split-level, painted and lacquered, with full numerical hour markings and a slash-zero at 12.

That 40 mm diameter is only one part of the fit picture: the 48 mm lug length and 13.5 mm height also matter when assessing how the watch may sit on a wrist. Fratello reviewer Thor Svaboe described the case as organic and close to lug-less, and felt its broad, non-tapering strap reinforced the compact appearance. Those are the reviewer’s aesthetic impressions, not measured fit results; Svaboe disclosed that he had previously owned other Schofield watches.
How the GMT hand works—and what the dial leaves out
The NH34A adds a 24-hour GMT hand alongside the hours, minutes and hacking seconds. Schofield says the GMT hand completes one rotation every 24 hours, while the main dial index is 12-hour. Because there is no full 24-hour scale, the wearer must interpret the GMT hand’s position against the dial rather than read a second time zone directly from a dedicated scale. Schofield acknowledges that this takes some learning, and Fratello identifies the extra mental step as a design trade-off.

- INSTANT READ MILITARY TIME: Never struggle to convert time during a busy shift. Features a high-contrast dial with bold Arabic numerals and a dedicated 12/24-hour inner ring. Perfect for medical professionals, fire academy cadets, and military personnel who require split-second accuracy.
- SUPERIOR NIGHT VISIBILITY: Engineered for night-shift workers and outdoor enthusiasts. The specialized luminous dial provide a clear glow in low-light conditions. (Pro Tip: For maximum brightness, expose the dial to strong light for 15 minutes to "charge" the natural luminous material).
- ULTRA-BREATHABLE NYLON STRAP: Experience all-day comfort without the sweat. Our lightweight 20mm slip-thru nylon band is soft against the skin yet rugged enough for the field. Fits wrists from 6.5 to 9 inches—extra length can be neatly folded back for a professional, tactical look.
- DURABLE JAPANESE PRECISION: Powered by a high-grade Miyota 2035 Japanese Quartz movement for "set it and forget it" reliability. Housed in a matte-finish rugged case with a scratch-resistant mineral window, this watch is built to withstand the "abuse" of construction sites, hiking trails, and daily manual labor.
- HONEST WATER RESISTANCE: Rated 5ATM (165ft) for peace of mind. While it handles splashes, rain, and hand-washing with ease, we recommend keeping it dry during hot showers or diving to ensure long-term seal integrity. A practical, high-value gift for veterans, outdoorsmen, or yourself.
This makes the Light better suited to someone who wants a second time-zone hand and is comfortable with an unconventional reading method than to someone who prioritizes quick, unambiguous GMT reading. The press release describes the behavior as a quirk; it is a deliberate feature of the display, not a conventional 24-hour dial layout.
Movement, water resistance and lume
For The Dark One, Schofield specifies an automatic Seiko NH34A with GMT, hours, minutes and hacking seconds. The maker lists a 44-hour power reserve, 24 jewels and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz). These are manufacturer-published specifications; the cited material does not establish independently measured accuracy or reserve.

- VH31 SWEEP QUARTZ WITH SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL: Powered by a VH31 quartz movement, this ML07 variation delivers smooth sweep-style seconds motion with dependable, low-maintenance operation. Its high-domed sapphire crystal with clear AR coating adds strong scratch resistance and a pronounced vintage profile while supporting a clear view of the dial.
- SUPER C3 GREEN LUME FOR CLEAR READING: Super C3 luminous material is applied to key dial elements to support quick time reading after exposure to light. The green glow complements the bold Arabic numerals and 12/24-hour field layout without changing the restrained vintage character of the dial, making the display easy to follow during changing light conditions.
- 100M WATER RESISTANCE WITH PUSH-PULL CROWN: The ML07 is rated to 100M for added confidence around handwashing, rain and routine daily water exposure. Its push-pull crown allows straightforward time setting while preserving the compact case profile. Press the crown fully into place before water contact, and do not operate it while wet or submerged.
- COMPACT 36MM PROPORTIONS: The case measures 36mm in diameter without the crown, 43.75mm lug to lug and 10.1mm thick including the high-domed crystal, with an 18mm lug width. These compact dimensions give the ML07 a balanced vintage wrist presence while keeping the Arabic numerals and inner 12/24-hour scale clear and easy to read.
- SANDBLASTED 316L STEEL FIELD-WATCH DESIGN: The low-reflection case finish, compact profile and high-domed crystal give the ML07 the restrained character of a vintage field watch. Its clear dial remains practical for everyday wear, while the versatile 18mm lug width makes it easy to pair with a wide range of compatible straps.
Schofield states 200 m water resistance and specifies a screw-down crown. That rating is the maker’s claim; it does not, by itself, establish the watch’s suitability for every water activity or replace the maker’s care and service guidance. The hour and minute hands use Super-LumiNova C3, which Schofield says emits green light.

The Light is supplied with two straight-cut 22 mm straps with quick-release spring bars: rubber and gray leather. The set includes one buckle matched to the case color. Schofield identifies Sugar Free as the strap maker and its sister website. A 22 mm width is a useful starting point for replacements, but check a third-party strap’s actual width and spring-bar construction before ordering; the stated width alone does not guarantee compatibility.

The page says VAT is deducted at checkout for buyers outside the UK. The Light makes the most sense for a buyer drawn to Schofield’s graphic design and comfortable with a less immediate GMT display. Its stated 200 m water resistance, screw-down crown, sapphire crystal and included rubber and leather straps give it practical features alongside the unusual dial. But the absence of a 24-hour scale is a meaningful usability compromise, especially for a wearer who needs to check another time zone quickly.
