Tudor Pelagos vs. Pelagos 39: Which Dive Watch Should You Choose?

The 42 mm Pelagos offers a date, helium escape valve and 500 m rating; the 39 mm Pelagos 39 is slimmer and has T-fit adjustment. Here’s how their specifications compare.

The standard Tudor Pelagos is the larger, thicker, more specification-heavy choice; the Pelagos 39 is slimmer and smaller, with a tool-free T-fit bracelet clasp. Both have COSC-certified automatic movements with approximately 70 hours of power reserve, titanium bracelets and an included rubber strap. The key decision is whether you want the standard model’s 500 m rating, date and helium escape valve—or prefer the Pelagos 39’s more compact dimensions and different clasp adjustment.

Dimensions, features and movement specifications are from TUDOR’s standard Pelagos product page and Pelagos 39 product page. Prices are figures displayed on TUDOR’s US Pelagos family page when accessed on October 8, 2026; they are not verified street prices and may change.

Which one wears smaller?

The Pelagos 39 is 3 mm smaller in diameter and 2.5 mm thinner by TUDOR’s published dimensions. It also has a 21 mm lug width, versus 22 mm on the standard model. Those figures make the 39 the more compact option on paper, but they cannot establish how either watch will feel on a particular wrist. If fit is decisive, try both on: case shape, bracelet position and personal preference matter alongside diameter.

TUDOR says it chose titanium for external parts for lightness and resistance to seawater corrosion. The manufacturer says titanium weighs approximately 60% as much as stainless steel; that is a material comparison, not a measured weight comparison between these two complete watches. See TUDOR’s titanium-bracelet article.

How do their water-resistance ratings differ?

TUDOR rates the standard Pelagos to 500 m (1,640 ft) and the Pelagos 39 to 200 m (660 ft), a 300 m difference in stated rating. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent dive-test results. The larger model also lists a helium escape valve at 9 o’clock; TUDOR does not list one in the Pelagos 39 specifications.

Do not treat the difference in maximum depth rating alone as a verdict on ordinary recreational use. The published figures tell you how the manufacturer rates each product; they do not, by themselves, establish which watch is suitable for a particular dive or replace applicable diving guidance.

  • Date Feature at 3 O'Clock with Even Numbered Days Displayed in Red and Odd Numbered Days in Black
  • Tudor Caliber MT5612-LHD (COSC), Self-winding Automatic Chronometer Movement
  • Titanium Screw Down Crown, Helium Escape Valve at 3 O'Clock and 70 Hour Power Reserve
  • Titanium Bracelet with Steel Folding Clasp and Safety Catch and Bracelet Extension System
  • Titanium Unidirectional Rotatable Bezel with Ceramic Matte Black Disc and 60 Minute Scale with Beige Luminescent Coating

What do you gain or give up with the display and movement?

The standard Pelagos uses the MT5612 calibre and has a date at 3 o’clock. The Pelagos 39 uses the MT5400 and has no date display. Both movements are COSC-certified automatic calibres, and TUDOR specifies approximately 70 hours of power reserve for each. Choose based on whether you want the date and which dial layout you prefer, rather than expecting a reserve advantage from one model.

Which bracelet is easier to adjust?

The two titanium bracelets do not use the same adjustment system. TUDOR describes the Pelagos 39’s T-fit clasp as tool-free, with five positions across an 8 mm adjustment window; its clasp also has a 25 mm diver extension. The standard Pelagos bracelet uses a patented extension system. The product specifications do not describe that system as equivalent to T-fit’s five-position adjustment.

Both watches are listed with an additional rubber strap. The Pelagos 39 package specifies a black strap with titanium pin buckle/end links and an extension piece; the standard Pelagos listing includes a rubber strap and an extra extension piece. The included strap gives either model a non-bracelet option without requiring a separate purchase.

Which dial and bezel suit you?

The Pelagos 39 reference compared here has a black sunray dial and sunray satin ceramic bezel insert. The standard Pelagos reference in this comparison is the black-dial model, while TUDOR also lists blue-dial versions elsewhere in the Pelagos family. TUDOR’s overview describes the Pelagos 39 as a bridge between land and sea, with “versatility and enhanced aesthetic touches”; that is the brand’s own characterization, not an independent assessment. Which Tudor Pelagos should you choose?

Choose the standard Pelagos if

  • You want the larger 42 mm case and do not mind its greater 14.3 mm thickness.
  • You specifically want the 500 m manufacturer rating, a date display or the listed helium escape valve.
  • You prefer the standard model’s bracelet extension system or want to consider the Pelagos family’s blue-dial variants.

Choose the Pelagos 39 if

  • You prefer the smaller 39 mm diameter and slimmer 11.8 mm case.
  • You want T-fit’s tool-free, five-position clasp adjustment and 25 mm diver extension.
  • You prefer a no-date dial and the black sunray finish of this reference.

This comparison covers the standard M25600TN-0001 and Pelagos 39 M25407N-0001, not every watch in the Pelagos family. TUDOR also lists variants including the LHD, blue-dial models, FXD and Pelagos Ultra, so buyers considering the wider range should compare those separately.
