What is the Zodiac × Rowing Blazers Super Sea Wolf GMT?
It is a collaboration between Swiss watchmaker Zodiac and clothing brand Rowing Blazers, built around the Super Sea Wolf GMT platform. The design takes its cue from the “Rochefoucauld” watch in the 1983 film Trading Places. In the film-inspired story recounted by Rowing Blazers, that fictional sports watch displays the time in Monte Carlo, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Rome and Gstaad.
Turning that imagined city list into a usable watch bezel posed a real design problem: several cities share a time zone. Vintage watch expert Eric Wind said in the launch announcement, “It was a challenge creating a bezel that shows all of the cities mentioned (not least because four of them are in the same time zone!).” The result is a playful city bezel paired with a separate GMT tracker, rather than a literal recreation of the movie prop. The collaboration was limited to 282 pieces. Rowing Blazers’ official listing gives a price of $2,195; this is the listed launch-era price, not a current-market valuation. How does the world-time and GMT display work?
The bezel and GMT hand serve related but distinct purposes. The bezel’s 27 city or location markings provide a world-time reference; the additional GMT hand tracks a second time zone using the watch’s 24-hour indication. In practice, the city ring helps relate a location to its time zone, while the GMT hand lets the wearer monitor another zone alongside local time. This is a hybrid presentation, not a full world-time dial that continuously displays the hour in every marked city at once. Who is this watch for?
The collaboration is most compelling for someone who likes the film reference, the colorful city-bezel concept and the combination of a bracelet with a second strap. Its 40 mm diameter and 47.8 mm lug-to-lug measurement offer more useful fit context than diameter alone, while the 13.6 mm thickness is worth considering if a slimmer watch is a priority. The published figures describe specifications, not long-term wear performance; Hodinkee’s launch coverage noted its author had not handled the watch in person and could not assess the movement in use.
For a purchase decision, compare any alternative on the points that affect ownership rather than just its GMT label: case dimensions, movement and stated reserve, water resistance, independent GMT-hand operation, strap options, seller and condition, return policy, warranty and service support.
