What the 2022 Ranger 79950 offers
The reference M79950-0001 pairs a satin-finished 39 mm steel case with a black domed dial and a smooth, satin-brushed bezel. The layout has no date window, with Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12; the launch-era description also notes a red tip on the seconds hand. A domed sapphire crystal covers the dial.

Specifications are from TUDOR’s official product page. The bracelet’s 20 mm lug width is useful when checking strap sizing, but it does not establish that any particular aftermarket strap will fit or perform well.
Movement, reserve and stated accuracy
The MT5402 is a self-winding mechanical movement with a bidirectional rotor. TUDOR lists it as COSC-certified and specifies an approximately 70-hour power reserve. That is a manufacturer specification, not a measured result for an individual watch. TUDOR describes the reserve as “weekend-proof”: in its example, the watch can be taken off on Friday evening and put back on Monday morning without winding.

On its Ranger history page, TUDOR gives a -2/+4 seconds-per-day rate range for the fully assembled watch. This is TUDOR’s stated standard, not an independent timing result for every example. The brand’s movement and model explanation is at TUDOR’s Ranger page.
How the Ranger name and design developed
TUDOR dates the registration of the Ranger name to 1929. The historical link most often associated with the modern model is the British North Greenland Expedition, which ran from 1952 to 1954. TUDOR says expedition members wore Oyster Prince watches, but those watches did not carry the Ranger inscription on their dials. The connection is therefore one of inspiration and anniversary, not proof that the expedition members wore a watch branded Ranger.

Bracelet and strap configurations
At launch, the 79950 was offered with a steel bracelet, an olive textile strap or a hybrid rubber-and-leather strap, according to Monochrome Watches’ 2022 launch coverage. The current official reference page describes the steel-bracelet configuration and its T-fit safety catch. Confirm current configurations and availability with TUDOR or a retailer in your market.

For the steel-bracelet model, TUDOR’s US search listing showed a suggested retail price of $4,025 on October 8, 2026. The opened official page displayed €3,730 in its regional context. These are different markets, not a direct like-for-like price comparison; TUDOR says suggested prices and models may change. Check the official Ranger listing for the price in your region and confirm it with a local retailer before buying.

Who should consider the Ranger?
The Ranger’s appeal is a restrained, no-date layout, a 39 mm steel case and a movement whose reserve and certification are specified by TUDOR. Its 100 m water resistance and bracelet adjustment system are practical features, while the numerals and expedition association give the otherwise simple dial a clear identity.
- Consider it if you want a time-only watch and do not need a date display.
- Check the listed 39 mm diameter, 12 mm thickness and 20 mm lug width against your fit preferences; dimensions alone cannot predict how a watch will wear on your wrist.
- Compare prices only within the same market and date, and check whether the configuration is bracelet or strap.
- If you are comparing it with another field- or explorer-style watch, use concrete differences such as dimensions, water resistance, movement certification and stated reserve, bracelet adjustment, dial layout and local price. The available specifications do not establish a head-to-head performance verdict.
