How the 94110 and 94010 differ

The collector guide says the 94-series references initially appeared as 9401/0 and 9411/0, with the slash dropped around 1976. These are approximate specialist-guide dates; Tudor’s official history supports the broader Submariner chronology but does not confirm these specific launch dates.
What “Snowflake” means
Tudor’s official historical document describes the 1969 design as distinctive square hour markers paired with matching hands, a look collectors call “snowflakes.” Tudor says the design remained in its catalogue until 1981. The name identifies the design style; it does not, by itself, verify a watch’s originality or establish that every detail remains as first sold.
Tudor places 1969 at the beginning of a second Submariner era, which continued until the model’s last catalogue appearance in 1999. The brand’s historical account also says ETA self-winding movements replaced the earlier movements in this era. These official dates describe the line broadly, rather than the exact production run of either reference.

Is the 94010 really a “Lollipop”?
It can be described that way in published horological writing, but the label is not settled enough to identify a 94010 from its reference number alone. Fratello’s article, “Vintage Tudor Submariners: 94110 Snowflake and 94010 Lollipop,” applies “Lollipop” to the 94010 it discusses, referring to an hour hand without the traditional Rolex Mercedes-style hand.
The Tudor Sub hands guide places its “Lollipop” discussion under the later 76100, which it says succeeded the 94110 around 1984. That guide says the handset is most commonly documented on the 76100 and also appears on some early 79090 examples. The difference in usage is a reason to describe the hands visible on a particular watch, rather than treat “Lollipop” as a universal 94010 factory specification.

Dial variations and dates to treat as estimates
The Tudor Sub collector guide reports a Type B shield dial appearing on the 94110 around 1981. It also describes a later 94010 dial variation, with Mercedes hands and different hour markers, appearing around 1983. Those dates and configurations are collector-guide reporting, not reference details confirmed by Tudor’s official history. A watch’s dial and hands should therefore be assessed as the actual components present, not inferred from an approximate date or nickname.
