Before buying or removing anything, confirm your exact model, band width, and connector type. Most older and current standard Galaxy Watches use 20 mm or 22 mm spring-bar bands; the Galaxy Watch8 series and Galaxy Watch Ultra use newer, model-specific attachment systems.
First, identify your watch and its band system
These instructions primarily cover Samsung Galaxy Watch models. Galaxy Fit devices are a separate category and generally do not accept ordinary Galaxy Watch bands.

Turn the watch over and inspect the connection between the band and the lugs:
- Standard spring bar: a thin metal bar passes through the band. A small tab or shoulder may retract with a fingernail, though some bands need a spring-bar tool.
- One-click band: a release button is built into the band end. Samsung uses this style on Watch7-era bands and older compatible models.
- Watch8 or Ultra connector: the release mechanism and lug design are model-specific. Do not force a conventional 20 mm or 22 mm band into either watch.
Samsung’s current compatibility and replacement guidance identifies Watch8 and Ultra as exceptions to ordinary interchangeable-band rules.

Nominal width is only part of compatibility. Two bands can measure 20 mm yet use different end pieces or release mechanisms. Confirm the exact model in the seller’s compatibility list before ordering.
Galaxy Fit warning: Galaxy Fit, Fit2, and Gear Fit2 Pro use proprietary connections. Galaxy Fit3 has a one-click-style mechanism, but that does not make it automatically compatible with Galaxy Watch bands. See Samsung’s Fit and Galaxy Watch band guidance.
What you need
- A clean, soft towel or microfiber cloth
- Good lighting
- Your fingernail for a built-in quick-release tab
- An optional spring-bar tool for stubborn or non-quick-release bands
- An optional magnifying glass for small connectors
Do not use a knife, razor, or sharp improvised screwdriver against the case. A proper spring-bar tool gives you better control and reduces the risk of scratching the watch or slipping into the lug.

- Remove the watch from your wrist.
- Place it face-down on a soft cloth.
- Work on a stable table, not over a sink, hard floor, or carpet.
- Dry the watch and band connection if they are wet or dirty.
- Keep the original spring bars until the replacement is installed and confirmed to fit.
Avoid bending the band sharply. Samsung warns that excessive bending can damage it. Also inspect the watch lugs themselves: a bent, cracked, or loose lug is a safety problem that a new band cannot fix.
Method 1: Replace a standard spring-bar or quick-release band
Remove the old band
- Turn the watch face-down.
- Find the spring-bar tab on the inside of the band near one lug.
- Slide or press the spring bar inward toward the center of the band.
- While holding it retracted, pull that side of the band away from the watch.
- Once one end is free, remove the band from the opposite lug.
- Repeat for the other half.
If the band has no movable tab, use a spring-bar tool. Samsung’s basic procedure is to slide the spring bar inward and pull the band away from the watch.

Install the replacement
- Confirm that the band width, end pieces, and spring bars match the watch.
- Insert one end of the spring bar into one lug hole.
- Retract the other end.
- Lower the band into alignment with the second lug.
- Release the spring bar.
- Check both ends visually, then tug the band gently away from the case.
A click alone is not proof of a secure installation. One end can rest on the outside of a lug and appear attached, so check that both spring-bar ends are inside their holes.
Method 2: Replace a one-click band
This method applies to Samsung one-click bands used by Watch7 and older compatible models.
Removal
- Turn the watch over.
- Press the release button on the band.
- Pull the band away from the watch.
- Repeat for the other half.
Installation
- Press the release button on the replacement band.
- Align its connector with the watch lugs.
- Seat the band fully.
- Release the button.
- Tug lightly to confirm that it is locked.
Samsung describes this procedure in its Watch band compatibility and product guidance.
Method 3: Replace a Galaxy Watch8 band
Samsung’s current support instructions place the release button on the watch for the Watch8 series, rather than on the band:
- Turn the watch face-down.
- Press the release button on the bottom of the watch.
- Pull the band out.
- Repeat on the opposite side.
- Push the replacement band into place. Samsung says the release button does not need to be pressed to connect the new band.
Because button placement and instructions can vary by market or product revision, verify the exact Watch8 model in Samsung’s regional support page before forcing a connector.

Method 4: Replace a Galaxy Watch Ultra band
The Ultra uses a distinct dynamic lug system. Use the Ultra band-release control specified for the model, pull the band away only after the connector disengages, and push the replacement Ultra-compatible band into place until fully seated.

Orient the new band correctly
As a practical starting point, place the buckle on the longer or “12 o’clock” side and the adjustment holes on the shorter or “6 o’clock” side. However, the safest reference is the original setup.
- Keep keeper loops and the buckle facing outward.
- Compare each half with a photo of the original band before removing it.
- Place the watch face-up to check that the band is not twisted.
- If one half feels inverted, remove and reverse that half rather than rotating the watch on your wrist.
Choose the right replacement
Width and wrist length
For standard models, choose 20 mm or 22 mm according to the compatibility table—not simply according to case diameter. Samsung lists these wrist ranges:
- S/M: 130–190 mm wrist circumference
- M/L: 145–205 mm wrist circumference
These ranges overlap and are not guarantees of comfort. Measure by wrapping string around your wrist, marking where it meets, then measuring the string against a ruler in millimeters. Leave enough adjustment for exercise, swelling, and a case that adds thickness.

Material trade-offs

Samsung describes its Watch7 fabric band as lightweight with a hook-and-loop closure and its sport band as quick-drying. Some Samsung D-Buckle Sport bands may need to be removed or repositioned for wireless charging so the entire watch back contacts the charger. This is a contact issue, not proof that every D-buckle band cannot charge.

Before putting the watch back on, complete this check:
- The band is centered between both lugs.
- No spring-bar end is visible outside a lug hole.
- Both halves pass a gentle tug test.
- The buckle, keeper, and outside surface are oriented correctly.
- The watch sits flat and the sensor touches the skin.
- The band is snug, but not tight or painful.
Stable, comfortable skin contact helps support consistent heart-rate, sleep, workout, wearing-detection, and body-composition readings. A new material does not automatically improve sensor accuracy.
Troubleshooting
The old band will not come off
- Push the band gently toward the watch to remove tension.
- Use brighter light and inspect the opposite side of the band.
- Clean dirt or dried sweat around the lug with a dry soft cloth or brush.
- Try a proper spring-bar tool if the band is not truly quick-release.
Do not twist the lugs or pry against the case.
The new band will not fit
Recheck 20 mm versus 22 mm, standard spring bar versus one-click, and whether the watch is a Watch8 or Ultra. Also confirm that the replacement includes the correct spring bars and that a case or bumper is not blocking the lug area.

The other spring-bar end may be sitting on top of the lug rather than inside its hole. A short, bent, damaged, or incorrectly angled connector can cause the same symptom. Remove the band and reinstall it; do not wear it loose.

The release button is stuck
Remove visible debris and push the band slightly toward the watch to release tension. Do not force the button with a sharp object. If it remains immobile, or if a lug is damaged, stop and contact Samsung service or a qualified repair shop.
The watch stops charging
Reposition it on the supplied charger and check that the entire back contacts the charging surface. Remove a bulky D-buckle or magnetic band when using a flat wireless charger. The clasp may be preventing contact even when the band itself is not defective.
The band irritates your skin
Remove the watch, wash and dry the skin and band, and stop wearing it until the irritation settles. Try another material if the problem returns. Seek medical advice for persistent, severe, or infected-looking irritation. Samsung also recommends keeping the watch and skin dry and taking a break if irritation develops.
Care and replacement timing
Clean sweat and residue from the band and dry it before storage. Inspect spring bars, buttons, stitching, keepers, and the watch lugs periodically. Replace a band when it is cracked, stretched, hardened, frayed, or no longer locks securely. For swimming or exercise, choose a material designed for that use; reserve leather for dry conditions and formal wear.
Official Samsung bands—including Sport, Fabric, Athleisure, D-Buckle Sport, and Ultra Marine, Trail, and Peakform families—are available in different model-specific configurations. Generic 20 mm or 22 mm quick-release bands can be suitable for standard-lug watches, but third-party Watch8 and Ultra bands should explicitly name the exact model and connector system. Prices and availability vary by model, size, color, market, and current promotions, so check the official product listing before purchase.
