U.S. preorders opened on March 24, 2026, after an earlier U.S. International Trade Commission action disrupted imports of covered Ultrahuman products.
Ring PRO makes Ultrahuman a more credible challenger, but its headline specifications remain manufacturer claims. Oura still has the stronger U.S. retail footprint, more mature software, broader support ecosystem and longer-established customer base. The practical choice comes down to whether subscription avoidance and battery life matter more than software maturity and purchase certainty.

The short version

Ultrahuman’s return is strategically important, but it is not proof that Oura has lost its lead. It is a hardware-and-business-model counterattack from a company rebuilding its U.S. position after a legal and import dispute.

What happened to Ultrahuman in the U.S.?
Oura pursued patent claims involving smart-ring technology, leading to a U.S. ITC proceeding. The agency issued a limited exclusion order concerning infringing smart wearable products and a related cease-and-desist order identifying Ultrahuman among the respondents.

The result was an import restriction affecting covered products. That is more precise than saying Oura “banned” Ultrahuman: this was a trade-remedy proceeding involving importation and sale, not a general criminal ban on the company or every Ultrahuman product.
Ultrahuman announced Ring PRO globally on February 27, 2026, initially excluding the U.S. It announced U.S. preorders on March 24 after stating that the product had received U.S. Customs and Border Protection clearance. That reopens a route into the market, but a preorder page is not the same as broad retail availability.

Ring PRO is a redesigned titanium smart ring with a dual-core processor, on-device machine learning and up to 250 days of health-data storage, according to Ultrahuman. Its sensor package includes a temperature sensor, a redesigned photoplethysmography heart-rate system and a six-axis inertial measurement unit.

The ring’s ProRelease Technology is designed to make it easier to cut apart if a finger swells after an injury. That is a useful safety feature, but it does not remove the need to take a ring off promptly when swelling, pain or injury occurs.
The charging case supports Qi wireless charging, battery-status LEDs, haptic alerts, case-finding features and direct connectivity for firmware and troubleshooting. Ultrahuman also says the case can extend total use beyond 45 days. That should be understood as cumulative charging capacity, not 45 days of uninterrupted operation from one ring charge.

Ring PRO’s battery and storage gains come with a fit trade-off. It is thicker and heavier than Ring AIR, which may matter during sleep, weight training, racket sports, gripping tools or wearing gloves. Ultrahuman ring sizing also differs slightly from standard U.S. ring sizes, and half sizes are unavailable.

On hardware, Ring PRO’s battery claim is the headline advantage. Oura Ring 4’s typical 5–8-day range is shorter, although real-world results for both rings depend on settings, synchronization, workouts, firmware, temperature, battery age and other usage factors.
The more important difference is the interpretation layer. Oura has spent years building trend analysis, guided insights, integrations and a broader health platform. Ring PRO’s stronger hardware claims do not automatically establish better sleep or recovery conclusions.

Ultrahuman’s most compelling commercial argument is that the ring’s core sleep, movement and recovery experience does not require a mandatory recurring subscription. That makes the upfront price easier to understand over several years.

It does not necessarily mean every Ultrahuman feature is permanently free. Optional or paid PowerPlugs, future premium services, regional availability and separate ecosystem products may have their own terms. “No mandatory subscription for the core experience” is the safer description than “everything is free forever.”
Oura takes the opposite approach. A new ring includes one complimentary month, after which U.S. membership costs $5.99 monthly or $69.99 annually before applicable taxes. The ring remains usable without membership, but access to the full feature set and detailed data is restricted.
A simple three-year comparison
- Ring PRO: $479 hardware price, excluding accessories, discounts or future services.
- Oura: hardware price plus $209.97 in membership over three years at the current annual rate.
That is not a total-cost-of-ownership calculation. It excludes sales tax, promotions, accessories, warranty plans, replacement costs and future price changes. It does show why subscription avoidance can outweigh a higher initial hardware price for long-term buyers.

How meaningful is the battery claim?
“Up to 15 days” is a maximum manufacturer claim, not a measured everyday result. Ultrahuman lists approximately 12 days in Turbo Mode and 15-plus days in Chill Mode. Heavy synchronization, exercise tracking, firmware updates, cold temperatures and battery aging may reduce endurance.
The charging case could be particularly useful for travelers and people who dislike carrying a dedicated charger. But buyers should distinguish between:
- Single-charge endurance: how long the ring operates before it must be charged.
- Typical use: endurance under normal settings and frequent syncing.
- Case-supported endurance: how much additional charging the case can provide over time.
Independent testing should compare Turbo and Chill modes, frequent syncing, workouts, firmware updates, temperature changes, ring sizes and battery aging before the 15-day claim is treated as a normal result.

Are Ring PRO’s health claims proven?
Ultrahuman says its redesigned PPG system improves signal quality and promotes “medical-grade health intelligence.” Those are company claims, not evidence that Ring PRO is a medical device or that its outputs are diagnostic.

A consumer smart ring may provide wellness tracking, algorithmic guidance and useful long-term trends without having FDA-cleared functionality or clinical validation for diagnosis. Ultrahuman’s launch materials do not establish comparative error rates against clinical instruments or prove that Ring PRO is more accurate than Oura.
The same caution applies to AI features such as Jade and broader “biointelligence” language. Buyers should treat them as software features until their availability, limitations and validation are clearly documented.

The U.S. is one of the most valuable markets for premium wearable technology: it has a large customer base willing to pay for health and fitness products, mature e-commerce and retail channels, corporate wellness opportunities and potential healthcare and benefits partnerships.
Ultrahuman’s interruption gave Oura more time to build distribution and mindshare. Returning to the U.S. therefore matters not only because of Ring PRO’s hardware, but because Ultrahuman must rebuild consumer confidence, inventory channels, support processes and brand momentum.
“Oura tightens its grip” should be read as a description of commercial positioning rather than proof of a legally recognized monopoly. Oura’s advantages include the ITC outcome, established retail presence, subscription-funded software investment, health and wellness expansion, and a longer U.S. track record. None of that proves a specific U.S. market share without reliable market-share data.

What Oura still does better
- Software maturity: Oura has a longer-established system for turning sleep, readiness, activity and stress data into trends and recommendations.
- Distribution: Oura can be purchased through its online store and authorized U.S. retail locations, while Ring PRO’s return begins with preorder availability.
- Support confidence: A longer-established U.S. presence generally makes returns, replacements and hands-on purchasing easier, although buyers should still confirm current policies.
- Platform breadth: Oura covers sleep, stress, heart health, women’s health and metabolic features within a broader ecosystem.
- Existing data: Current Oura users may value years of history and established integrations more than Ring PRO’s newer hardware.
Oura’s subscription is the cost of accessing that continuing interpretation layer. For some buyers, it is an unacceptable recurring expense; for others, it is preferable to a less mature app with a lower long-term bill.
Who should buy Ring PRO?
- Choose Ring PRO if avoiding a mandatory subscription is a top priority, long battery life matters more than minimum thickness, or you already use Ultrahuman products such as M1, Blood Vision or PowerPlugs.
- Choose Ring PRO if you are comfortable with a preorder and a newer U.S. relaunch, and value local storage that can reduce dependence on frequent phone connectivity.
- Choose Oura Ring 4 if you want established U.S. retail access, a mature sleep and recovery app, broad integrations and a longer local track record.
- Choose Oura if the annual membership cost is acceptable and guided interpretation matters more than maximum battery endurance.
- Wait if you need independent Ring PRO accuracy testing, confirmed shipping dates, clearly documented U.S. warranty handling or a half-size option.
- Wait if you need a specific feature such as cycle tracking, blood-oxygen sensing, exercise tracking or healthcare integration and have not confirmed its current U.S. availability.
Before ordering Ring PRO, confirm the availability of your size and finish, expected shipping date, return window, replacement process, warranty coverage and access to all advertised app features. The existence of a preorder page does not by itself establish normal retail stock or a fully tested U.S. support operation.
Bottom line
Ring PRO is a serious return, not an established Oura killer. Its strongest proposition is the combination of a claimed 15-day battery, a charging case that can support more than 45 days of cumulative use, large onboard storage and no mandatory subscription for the core experience. Those advantages directly address some of Oura’s most common criticisms.
Oura remains the safer choice for buyers who prioritize mature software, established U.S. distribution, integrations and support. Ultrahuman is the more interesting choice for subscription-averse buyers willing to accept preorder uncertainty and wait for independent evidence.
The U.S. comeback gives Ultrahuman a credible platform from which to challenge Oura. It does not yet show that the challenger has overcome Oura’s software, distribution or ecosystem lead.
