That removes the need to stop and restart the chronograph at the start. The 2017 model pairs that mechanism with a 44 mm steel case, 100 m water resistance and a 72-hour power reserve.
How the Marine Regatta countdown works
The countdown can be set for one to ten minutes. A dedicated regatta hand indicates the countdown against a yellow 0–10 scale, and the pusher at 10 o’clock sets the interval. During the countdown, the central chronograph seconds hand travels counterclockwise.
When the countdown reaches zero, that hand automatically changes direction and moves clockwise to measure elapsed race time. The transition is the Marine Regatta’s defining complication: the wearer does not have to manually stop and restart the chronograph at the starting signal. Hours and minutes are shown on the subdial at six o’clock. The mechanism is described in the GPHG model entry and by the Fondation Haute Horlogerie.
What watch is this?
This review concerns reference 1553-155-3/43, launched in 2017. The GPHG entry connects the design with Artemis Racing and the 35th America’s Cup, and says it was developed with advice from yachtsmen Loïck Peyron and Iain Percy. It also describes a limited edition of 35 with a black enamel Champlevé dial; that detail should not be assumed to describe every version of the reference.

Case, dial and movement
GPHG lists a 44 mm-wide, 14.9 mm-thick steel case, a rubber strap with titanium inserts, a folding buckle and 100 m water resistance. The entry describes a fluted bezel with rubber inserts, screw-down crown and molded rubber pushers. The cited water-resistance rating is a model specification, not a recommendation for a particular type of diving.
The dial is described in ocean blue and sea foam versions. The unusual countdown display gives the watch a clear functional identity, while the large case and dense chronograph information make it a substantial, purpose-oriented design rather than a discreet everyday option.

FHH identifies the automatic movement as calibre UN-155 and lists 650 components and a 72-hour power reserve. GPHG lists a 28,800-vph rate and the functions as hours, minutes, seconds, date, chronograph, flyback chronograph and split-second chronograph. These are published specifications; they do not establish independent accuracy or performance during actual sailing.

Ulysse Nardin’s Marine collection page describes the collection and shows current Marine models, but the Marine Regatta was not visible in the retrieved listings. That alone does not confirm whether the reference is discontinued. Current production status, stock and live pricing remain unverified; anyone considering a purchase should confirm the exact reference, variant, condition and price directly with a seller.

The Marine Regatta’s appeal is specific and easy to explain: it turns a regatta countdown into elapsed race timing automatically at zero. That is more than a nautical styling cue, and the countdown setting and two-direction chronograph hand are the reasons to choose this model. The trade-offs are equally concrete: a 44 mm, 14.9 mm steel case is prominent, and the available price figures do not tell a buyer what the watch costs today. It makes most sense for someone drawn to the start-sequence complication and the watch’s America’s Cup context, rather than someone seeking a compact or broadly versatile chronograph.
