The Enicar Sherpa Graph is a vintage chronograph line introduced in 1960 and commonly divided by collectors into four generations: MK I, MK II, MK III and MK IV. To identify an execution, compare its reference, case, dial, hands, logo, crown and lume together; a single detail can mislead, especially if a component has been replaced.
The labels are useful collector classifications, not a verified official Enicar factory taxonomy. The comparison below summarizes the distinctions described in specialist coverage and a collector reference guide.
How the Sherpa Graph generations differ
Collector references trace the line from 1960 to 1969. The specialist comparison describes MK I as the earliest and longest-running series, followed by later executions with substantial changes in dial and hand design. The table is an identification aid, not a factory specification sheet.

What to check when identifying an execution
Use multiple clues rather than assigning a generation from one hand, dial color or logo. Start with the reference and case, then see whether the dial layout and hands agree with that identification. Compare the logo, crown signature and lume as additional evidence.
- Reference and case: Check the reference marking and case details against the reported execution. The comparison associates MK II with 072/001 and MK IV with 072-02-01; MK III is described as sharing a case and reference with MK IV.
- Dial and subdials: Note the dial color, subdial color and overall configuration. Both MK II and later generations have more than one reported dial treatment.
- Hands: Distinguish the MK I’s Gladius hands, MK III’s lumed paddle hands with orange tips, and the common MK IV dark-dial combination of white baton hands and orange or red chronograph hands.
- Logo, crown and lume: Treat the early Saturn logo, reported unsigned early crowns and lume material as cross-checks, not standalone proof. Lume can also be aged or affected by service.
- Originality: A replacement dial, hand or crown may break the expected combination. Ask for clear photographs and documentation before relying on an execution label.

Production estimates and rarity
A 2024 Fratello article relays collector Nico Henke’s estimates of about 500 MK Ia watches, about 1,600 MK II watches, and nearly 6,000 MK III and MK IV watches combined. These are estimates discussed by Tomas Rosputinsky, not verified production totals from Enicar; no factory ledger is cited. They suggest differences in estimated volume, but they cannot establish the rarity or value of an individual watch.
The same article describes early examples crossing €5,000, €7,000 and €10,000 thresholds and reports competition among collectors at auctions. Those are the author’s market observations, not a current price survey or a valuation for a specific watch. Condition, originality, provenance and sale context matter.

What to inspect before buying
A 2015 Fratello ownership article discusses the Sherpa Graph as a Valjoux 72-powered chronograph in an EPSA case, with distinctive dial and hand design. It also associates the model with racing driver Jim Clark, while treating the identity of the pictured watch as uncertain and noting that Clark wore several Sherpa Graphs. A model association is not proof that a particular watch belonged to him; that claim needs specific provenance.

- Inspect the dial, hands and inner bezel for damage, replacements or missing parts.
- Check the pushers and crown, including whether replacements may be difficult to source.
- Look for signs of water entry and ask whether the case closes correctly.
- Have the movement’s condition assessed by a qualified watchmaker; appearance alone cannot establish mechanical health.
- Request provenance and an independent inspection of the specific watch rather than relying on a seller’s generation label.

Choosing a strap
Fratello gives a 20 mm lug width for Sherpa Graphs, but that figure should not be assumed for every watch or altered example. Measure the lugs on the specific watch before ordering a strap. The 20 mm reference appears in [Fratello’s vintage chronograph overview].
