What is the Universal Genève Senna 41?
The Senna 41 is a 41 mm chronograph that Universal Genève developed in collaboration with the Ayrton Senna Institute. Fratello Watches’ account, published 9 October 2017, places the collaboration in the late 1990s and identifies two models: the chronograph Senna 41 and the three-hand Senna 65. The article explains the names as references to Senna’s 41 Formula One wins and 65 pole positions. Those figures are the article’s explanation; it does not cite an independent statistical source for them. Fratello Watches also says the IAS was founded in 1994 by Senna’s family and presided over by his sister Viviane Senna.

The Fratello author expressed doubt that the described “carbon” was actual carbon, suggesting it could have been a plastic blend. That is the author’s uncertainty, not a confirmed material analysis. Separate listings also identify ref. 998.310 as an automatic Valjoux 7750 chronograph with a 41 mm case and 20-atmosphere rating, but listings do not establish the condition or history of other examples. What versions and configurations are reported?

The article separately reports a numbered Netherlands-exclusive series of 50 pieces and says its author’s example was number 41. That figure applies to the specific Netherlands-exclusive series described, not necessarily to all Senna 41 watches or variants. The article does not state total production.
What should a buyer check on a vintage example?
Published specifications cannot establish whether an individual watch remains original, has been serviced, or is safe to use in water. Even though the model was reported with a 20-bar rating and screw-down controls, do not rely on that historical rating for a decades-old watch: have a qualified watchmaker inspect it and perform a pressure test before any water exposure.

- Confirm the reference and configuration: compare the case reference, movement type, dial, and bracelet or strap with the seller’s description. Distinguish a quartz example from the automatic COSC-certified configuration.
- Ask about condition and originality: request clear photographs and details of the dial, hands, case, pushers, crown, and bracelet or strap. The sources do not establish condition for the market as a whole.
- Request service evidence: a seller’s claim about an overhaul applies to that specific listing, not every ref. 998.310. For example, Connoisseur of Time labels one offered watch as overhauled; that is the seller’s claim about its example.

What do the sources establish about its collectible history?
LotSearch’s auction archive describes a 1998 Senna 41, ref. 998.310, as the first item in a collection issued for the benefit of the Ayrton Senna Foundation. It records an estimate of €1,800–€2,500, but no realized price. That estimate is neither proof of a sale at that amount nor a current valuation. LotSearch’s archived lot documents that particular auction entry.
For a buyer, the model name and reference are useful starting points for finding listings, but the value and desirability of an individual vintage watch depend on its own condition, originality, service documentation, and completeness. None of the cited historical descriptions substitutes for an inspection of the specific watch.
