Spinnaker’s US listing is for the gunmetal SP-5097-77; its Japanese listing is for the pitch-black SP-5097-11-N. Keep those references attached to their respective figures rather than treating the two pages as one specification sheet.

How to interpret the 300 m claim and slim profile
The US listing’s specification row gives 30 ATM, while its headline copy says “over 300m”; the Japanese listing and feature page state 300 m. These are manufacturer claims, not evidence of an independent pressure test or a guarantee that every watch is suitable for every diving use. Confirm the rating and documentation for the exact reference you are considering.

Thickness is also not uniform across those listings: the US page gives 11.5 mm and the Japanese page gives 10.9 mm. The sources do not explain the difference, so it should not be attributed to a cause. Spinnaker’s 2024 promotional video also repeats an under-11 mm profile claim, which does not resolve the discrepancy between the two product pages.
What the Miyota 9039 provides on paper
Spinnaker identifies the Miyota 9039 automatic movement in product material. The US page lists “41+ Hours Power Reserve”; the Japanese feature page states 42 hours and 28,800 vibrations per hour. Those are published figures, not timing or reserve results measured on an individual sample.

Case, bezel and band details listed by Spinnaker
For the US SP-5097-77, Spinnaker lists a stainless-steel case, sapphire lens, screw-down crown, unidirectional turning bezel, luminous indexes and a 20 mm steel band with a fold-over buckle and push button. The page also lists an extra band; strap material can differ among US variants, so check the contents for the exact reference. The Japanese listing identifies a stainless-steel band and sapphire crystal for SP-5097-11-N.
Spinnaker says, “Carefully finished, the case of Spence 300 Automatic took our engineers well over a year to perfect.” That is the manufacturer’s account, not independently verified engineering history. The available product information does not establish how the bezel operates, how bright the lume appears, how the bracelet feels, or how the watch wears on a particular wrist.

What to check before buying
- Reference and regional page: Match the full code—such as SP-5097-77 or SP-5097-11-N—to the color and configuration being sold.
- Price and availability: The displayed $650 USD and ¥74,800 including tax are regional page prices captured at a point in time. Check the current local listing and stock before ordering.
- Warranty: The US listing states a two-year international warranty; the captured Japanese listing does not state a warranty. Confirm coverage, exclusions and the seller’s role in your region.
- Included band or strap: Check the exact variant’s package contents and the material of any additional strap rather than assuming all SP-5097 versions are alike.
- Replacement strap fit: The US listing’s 20 mm band width is a useful starting point, not proof that every 20 mm aftermarket strap will fit. Verify end-link geometry, spring-bar dimensions and clearance for the specific reference.
- Marketplace seller: Confirm the exact reference, seller and return terms on any marketplace; an official product page does not verify a third-party listing or its stock.
How to compare it with another diver-style automatic
A useful comparison needs matching references and regions, not just a shared “300 m” label. Put the checkable details side by side:
- Case diameter, thickness and lug-to-lug.
- Movement, stated reserve and beat rate.
- Water-resistance rating, how it is expressed, and crown construction.
- Crystal and bezel type.
- Bracelet or strap configuration, width and warranty.
- Regional price observed at the same time.
Those specifications cannot establish comparative comfort, timekeeping accuracy, lume visibility, bezel action, service experience or actual water performance. Those judgments require a physical sample or stronger evidence.
