The Tudor Heritage Ranger is the 41 mm reference 79910, introduced in 2014. It pairs a brushed-steel, expedition-inspired design with a history that needs one important distinction: Tudor connects the Ranger concept to watches used on the 1952–1954 British North Greenland Expedition, but says those watches did not carry the Ranger name on their dials.
What the Heritage Ranger 79910 is
Tudor describes the Heritage Ranger as a self-winding watch introduced in 2014, with a 41 mm case and the design language associated with the Ranger line. The brand’s official Ranger page calls out its distinctive dial detail: the word “Ranger” appears at 6 o’clock. Hodinkee’s March 26, 2014 launch report describes the case as brushed stainless steel and the overall presentation as a clean tool watch.
That makes the 79910 a specific earlier reference, not a generic name for every Tudor Ranger. Its 41 mm case is a defining point for anyone considering the watch; the line’s later versions have different dimensions and specifications.
How the Ranger name relates to the expedition
Tudor says it registered the Ranger name in 1929 and frames the line around a practical, robust expedition-watch concept. The brand traces that concept to Oyster Prince watches used during the British North Greenland Expedition, which ran from 1952 to 1954. The distinction is important: Tudor explicitly says the expedition watches did not have the Ranger inscription on their dials. The connection is one of design lineage, not proof that the expedition members wore watches labeled Ranger.

- Tudor Ranger Automatic Black Dial Men's Stainless Steel Watch M79950-0001
Tudor’s brand chronology and Ranger history present that evolution as a continuing idea: an affordable, capable instrument associated with exploration. The Heritage Ranger 79910 brought the aesthetic back in a modern 2014 model.
Heritage Ranger 79910 and Ranger 79950: what changed?
The 79950 is a later-generation Ranger, introduced in 2022. It should not be treated as a specification update to the Heritage Ranger 79910: it is a distinct reference with a smaller case and a different movement generation. Tudor’s 79950 specification sheet provides the technical details for that later watch.

Launch pricing and buying context
At launch in 2014, Hodinkee reported prices of CHF 2,800 on a bracelet and CHF 2,700 on a leather strap. These are launch-era figures, not current retail or pre-owned prices. No current market-wide price estimate is established here, so compare the condition, completeness, seller history, and documentation of individual examples rather than treating those historical prices as a present-day benchmark.

Choosing a strap for the 79910
A specialist 22 mm strap guide for the Heritage Ranger 79910 lists 22 mm as the fit. Use that as a useful sizing lead rather than a guarantee: confirm the lug width, attachment style, and end fit for your particular watch and the specific strap before ordering.

Rank #4
- 41mm steel case with polished and satin finish
- Bidirectional rotatable bezel in steel with 24-hour graduated anodised aluminium disc
- Self-winding mechanical movement with 70 hour power reserve
- Material: Leather gives a more traditional look; other materials can shift the watch toward casual or utility wear.
- Closure: Check whether the strap uses a buckle or is compatible with the buckle you intend to use.
- Fit and attachment: Verify width and end fitting against the individual watch; a nominal 22 mm measurement alone does not establish compatibility.
- Wear: Consider comfort, durability, and how the material suits your routine before choosing a replacement.
What to keep in mind when evaluating one
- Use reference 79910 when distinguishing the 41 mm Heritage Ranger from later Rangers.
- Do not attribute the 79950’s MT5402 movement, 100 m water resistance, approximately 70-hour reserve, or T-fit clasp to the 79910.
- Keep the expedition story precise: Tudor links the Ranger idea to watches used during the expedition, while noting those watches were not signed “Ranger.”
- Assess any pre-owned watch on its own condition and documentation; historical launch pricing does not indicate its current value.
