The 2016 Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time (reference family 7700V) pairs an automatic world-time display covering 37 time zones with a substantial 43.5 mm steel case and a quick-change strap setup. Frank Geelen’s hands-on account describes his silver-tone-dial example on a black rubber strap as comfortable, but fit is personal. Its $37,000 price was the reported 2016 launch price—not a current quote.
What the Overseas World Time does
The 7700V was part of the redesigned 2016 Overseas collection. Its calibre 2460WT world-time display represents 37 time zones, including locations with half-hour and quarter-hour offsets from UTC. That makes it more comprehensive than a conventional display limited to 24 whole-hour zones.
The city ring identifies locations, while a 24-hour indicator and day/night shading help show the corresponding time around the world. Hodinkee reports that the mechanism is operated from the crown, without pushers. The dial is designed as a layered map rather than a plain city-and-number scale. Vacheron Constantin’s description, reproduced by Hodinkee, says the continents use a sunburst satin-brushed finish, the oceans a velvet finish, and a sapphire disc over the map provides day/night indications synchronized with the 24-hour disc. Case, dial and strap options
At 43.5 mm across and 12.6 mm thick, this is a large, relatively substantial watch. Hodinkee’s author said the case was not too large on that author’s wrist, while also wishing it were smaller and thinner. Geelen’s hands-on impression was different in emphasis: he described the silver-tone dial version he handled on a black rubber strap as comfortable. Both are individual wrist impressions, not a guarantee of fit.
Geelen also discusses the bracelet’s Maltese-cross-shaped links and finishing. The 2016 coverage documents a steel bracelet along with rubber and alligator/leather strap options; Monochrome says the watch came with complimentary leather and rubber straps alongside the bracelet. The broader Overseas collection is described in Vacheron Constantin’s 2025–26 catalogue as using a patented interchangeable strap system, but that is a collection-level statement and does not independently confirm the exact contents of every 7700V sale. What it cost, and what is known about availability
Hodinkee reported a U.S. launch price of $37,000 in 2016. That historical figure should not be read as the current retail price or as a measure of present resale value.
A Bucherer search-index result observed on 7 October 2026 showed $36,700 for reference 7700V/110A-B172 and marked it out of stock. The detail page could not be inspected, so this is not a verified live offer. The Vacheron Constantin U.S. Overseas collection page inspected for current lineup context did not show the 7700V World Time; that absence from one regional page does not establish global discontinuation. The World Time is for someone who values an at-a-glance reference to many cities, including places whose UTC offsets are not whole hours. Current Overseas Dual Time models offer a simpler second-time-zone function, not the 7700V’s 37-zone display. The collection page also lists other complications, including chronographs and calendar or tourbillon models. Case sizes and materials vary by reference, so compare the specific model and try it on where possible rather than assuming another Overseas will wear the same way. The practical choice is between the World Time’s broad simultaneous reference and another model’s simpler display, different complication, or more suitable proportions.
