The Vaer G2 Meridian GMT is a quartz watch designed to track a second time zone, with a 39 mm or 42 mm case option. Vaer lists the 39 mm Navy/Red configuration at $429 and specifies a Swiss Ronda quartz GMT movement, sapphire crystal and 15 ATM water resistance. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent test results; whether it suits you depends chiefly on the larger-case fit you prefer and how you want to use a GMT while traveling.

What the G2 Meridian GMT is—and what it can do

Vaer describes the G2 Meridian as a quartz GMT watch for tracking dual time zones. The 39 mm Navy/Red model uses a Swiss Ronda quartz GMT movement. Vaer specifies a 40-month battery life and a timing tolerance of −10/+20 seconds per month; those figures are manufacturer specifications, not measurements from an independent test. Vaer’s Navy/Red product listing has the model details.

A GMT display is useful when you want to keep another time zone visible—for example, home time while traveling. The exact setting procedure matters, however: GMT movements differ in how their hands are adjusted. Use Vaer’s operation guide for the G2’s crown and time-setting instructions rather than assuming it has the independently adjustable local-hour hand found on some traveler-style GMT watches.

39 mm vs. 42 mm: the listed dimensions

Vaer offers the G2 Meridian in two case sizes. The figures below are manufacturer-listed dimensions; the product pages do not establish which size will fit a particular person’s wrist. Vaer recommends 39 mm for a lower-profile fit and 42 mm for larger wrists, which is fit guidance rather than a universal sizing rule.

Configuration Case diameter Lug-to-lug Thickness Price shown
39 mm Navy/Red 39 mm 46 mm 10.8 mm including crystal; 10.4 mm without $429 starting price on Vaer’s page, accessed 2026-10-07
42 mm 42 mm 48.48 mm 13.27 mm including crystal Not stated in the cited Vaer listing

The 39 mm listing specifies a 20 mm lug width. Its smaller diameter and shorter lug-to-lug measurement make it the more compact listed option, while the 42 mm is both wider and thicker. If possible, compare the lug-to-lug span and thickness with a watch you already find comfortable; diameter alone does not determine how a watch sits on your wrist. The Green 39 mm product listing also documents the G2’s 39 mm quartz GMT configuration.

Construction, water resistance and straps

For the cited 39 mm Navy/Red model, Vaer lists a 316L stainless-steel case, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and a 120-click bidirectional aluminum GMT bezel. The bezel can be used as part of the watch’s time-zone display, but its bidirectional action is not the unidirectional dive-timing arrangement used on many dive watches.

Vaer rates the model at 15 ATM (150 m) and advertises a two-year waterproof warranty. These are the company’s rating and warranty claims; no independent water-resistance testing was established here. For use in or around water, follow the manual’s operating guidance and warranty terms, particularly for the crown.

The 39 mm version is listed with interchangeable 20 mm straps. A 20 mm replacement strap is a size-based option, not a guarantee of fit: check the attachment style and clearance for your exact watch before buying a third-party strap.

How it compares with Vaer’s G5 Meridian

Vaer positions the quartz G2 as a more affordable counterpart to its automatic G5 Meridian. The meaningful distinction established by the product information is movement category: the G2 uses quartz and has a stated 40-month battery life, while the G5 is automatic. That is not evidence of a measured reliability advantage for either watch, nor does it establish a total-cost comparison.

The $429 starting price applies to the 39 mm Navy/Red product page as accessed on 2026-10-07. Prices and stock can change, and the cited listing does not state a 42 mm price. Check Vaer’s current listing before making a purchase decision.

Who should consider the G2?

  • Consider it if you want a quartz GMT to keep a second time zone in view and prefer a choice of 39 mm and 42 mm cases.
  • The 39 mm is the more natural starting point if you want the lower-profile option in Vaer’s own fit guidance or value the listed 10.8 mm thickness.
  • Look at the 42 mm if you want the larger case, while accounting for its greater listed thickness and lug-to-lug span.
  • Compare the G5 if an automatic movement matters more to you than the G2’s quartz setup and lower listed starting price.
  • Do not treat the water rating as independent verification: the 15 ATM figure and two-year waterproof warranty are Vaer’s claims.
