The Urban Jürgensen UJ-2 is a time-only wristwatch introduced as part of the brand’s 2025 relaunch collection. Its defining feature is a hand-wound movement with a double-wheel natural escapement, designed to deliver impulse to the balance more directly than a conventional Swiss lever escapement. Launch coverage reported a 39 mm case, 52-hour power reserve and four precious-metal and dial combinations; its 2025 reported price was CHF 105,000 excluding taxes.
What makes the UJ-2’s escapement different?
An escapement regulates how energy from a watch’s gear train reaches its oscillator, which keeps time. The UJ-2 uses paired escapement wheels in a natural, or direct-impulse, arrangement. Rather than relying on the conventional Swiss lever architecture, the design is intended to pass impulse more directly to the balance.
SJX describes the arrangement as close to Abraham-Louis Breguet’s natural-escapement concept. That describes the design lineage, not proof that the UJ-2 reproduces a historical mechanism in every detail. The movement is reported to run at 18,000 beats per hour, or 2.5 Hz.
Urban Jürgensen’s collection announcement, reproduced by Europa Star, says the escapement offers up to 30% greater power efficiency than a traditional Swiss lever escapement. This is the brand’s stated comparison; the cited coverage does not establish it as an independently verified test result.
