The current Venezianico Bucintoro 42 is a stainless-steel automatic chronograph with a listed Seiko NE88A movement, 42 mm case and 49 mm lug-to-lug length. Its specifications are substantial on paper, but the available evidence supports a specification-based assessment, not claims about measured accuracy, comfort or finishing. The key buying distinction is to choose the current 42 mm NE88A model—not confuse it with the earlier, smaller Bucintoro 40 Prima Serie.
What is the Venezianico Bucintoro 42?
The Bucintoro is Venezianico’s chronograph, named for the Doge’s ceremonial galley, which the company describes as the flagship of the Venetian Republic and a vessel traditionally leading the Regata Storica. Venezianico says, “Its name is inspired by the Doge’s ceremonial galley, the flagship of the Venetian Republic.” The nautical and Venetian identity is expressed through the name, design framing and caseback engraving; it does not establish that every watch component is Italian-made. Venezianico’s Bucintoro 42 product page presents the current model.

What movement is in the current Bucintoro?
For the current 42 mm watch, model 8221510C, Venezianico lists the automatic Cal. NE88A. The movement specification includes a column wheel, vertical clutch, instant-zero-reset chronograph and three-pointed hammer system. The manufacturer also uses “NE88 / 8R48” in promotional copy; that is its stated equivalence language, while the installed caliber identified in the technical specifications is NE88A.
The column wheel and vertical clutch are meaningful features of the listed chronograph architecture. Venezianico says they help reduce chronograph-hand jumping, but that is the maker’s explanation, not an independently measured result. The available evidence does not establish this particular watch’s timekeeping accuracy or long-term reliability.

- Case Dimensions: 40 mm, Lug-to-Lug 44 mm, Total Thickness 8.95 mm
- Material: 316L Stainless Steel
- Dial: Vertical Ctes de Genve Finish on Brass
- Crystal: Sapphire with Anti-Reflective Coating
- Movement: Miyota 9029, Automatic, 2-Hands, No Date
How does the dial work?
The central timing hand records chronograph seconds: it is for elapsed time when the chronograph is running, not the ordinary seconds display. Running seconds appear in the subdial at 3 o’clock. A 30-minute chronograph register sits at 9 o’clock, and an hours register is positioned below. The central hand works with the tachymeter scale on the rehaut.
How big does the Bucintoro 42 wear?
Venezianico lists a 42 mm diameter and 49 mm lug-to-lug length. Those dimensions offer a more useful sense of the case’s footprint than diameter alone; the 49 mm measurement is the distance from one end of the lugs to the other. The maker gives thickness as 11.70 mm excluding the glass, so it should not be read as a total height including the crystal. Dimensions alone cannot establish how comfortable it will feel on a particular wrist.

How is the Bucintoro 42 different from the Bucintoro 40 Prima Serie?
They are separate generations, with different listed movements and displays. The older Prima Serie is a 40 mm model with an NE86A movement and date display; the current 42 mm watch is listed with the NE88A and the hours register below its subdials. Do not apply the earlier model’s specifications to the current watch.

The older model’s maker page gives 48 mm lug-to-lug in its specification block, but elsewhere says “Ø40 mm, lug-to-lug 40 mm” and 14 mm total thickness. Because the page conflicts with itself, the 48 mm figure should not be treated as certain. The Prima Serie page also says the numbered edition was reserved for its first 300 collectors. See the Bucintoro 40 Prima Serie listing for the maker’s generation-specific details.

Is the Venezianico Bucintoro worth it?
The published specification makes the Bucintoro 42 a clearly defined option for someone seeking a 42 mm automatic chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch, 100 m stated water resistance, and a strongly Venetian design identity. Whether it is worth its listed price depends on the buyer’s priorities, but the available evidence is not enough to call it a proven value against competing watches. There is no independent hands-on assessment here of finishing, comfort, accuracy, chronograph operation or durability. Treat those as open questions rather than inferred benefits of the specification sheet.
